Besides the name, what were those minor changes?

Taming of the ride, especially during the opening scene. It's not a HUGE difference, but it is very noticeable to those that rode CTX a lot.

Also the addition of various black light plants to brighten things up in the darkest portions of the attraction.

A small little detail I miss is the Pterodactyl that used to swoop over the vehicles, although if I remember correctly that was taken out for mechanical reasons, not to tame down the ride...but I can't remember exactly. :brick:

I think you're right.

The Pterodactyl is still there, at least it was last summer, but didn't it use to move? Now it's just stagnant and the movement of the vehicle under it is suppose to give you the perception that it's flying. That could be done better.

Yea, that's my gripe. The Pterodactyl used to swoop at the car, but the cable that pulled it broke a few years back, since then it has remained a static figure. :(

With all the complicated things that can go wrong, you'd think a cable would be on the simple list. It only moved forward and returned to the start position...how complicated can it be? It's really the one thing on the ride that looks 'cheap.'

I know, everytime I ride, and I hear incoming and look up, I literally cringe, knowing how effective it was when it worked.

Well I never rode CTX, so I can't add much to the discussion, but I think Dinosaur is still a great ride. It's fune, and fairly thrilling for a Disney ride. I agree that the pterodactyl looks really cheap. I have one question. There's a point where it looks like things are jumping over you, what are they?

Oh I don't want anyone to misunderstand me either. I still REALLY like Dinosaur. It's one of my favorites, but it used to be a better overall experience. Way back when everyone got to see the full preshow

All I know in terms of thrill is that it is the ONLY ride in my entire lifetime that got and honest, no-holes-barred instinctive reaction out of me at the very end when the Carnosaur's big ole head comes at you in the pitch black dark. I, of course, like all first times on rides, requested and rode in the front...

...and I screamed. Not the "whoo" or the forced scream. I squeeled like a little girl.

After my friends and I stopped laughing (they yelled some too but had ridden it before), I pretty much figured that if a ride can make me do that, they must be doing something right.

I can't remember their names, but I think they're those little green things from Jurrassic Park 2, the little scavengers that hunt in packs and get tasered by that one guy (I obviously haven't watched the movie in a long time:lol: ).

This drives me NUTS. Extremely frustrating when taking first-timers. :brick:

They're just these tiny dinosaurs.... and they too, have recently stopped working.

So currently, they and the Pterodactyl just sit there. On top of that, the "charging" Carnotaur(sp?) hasn't charged in months.

.....Now that I think about it, all that plus the mess over at the Kilimanjaro Safaris finale... Is it just me or does AK maintenance really need to get their act together?

Too much attention has been going to Everest, I guess. Dinosaur needs a refurbishment in the worst way (2nd only to the Haunted Mansion, property wide).

The tiny, jumping dinosaurs refered to were indeed working the first week of January, so if it has permanently broken, then it must have only recently.
I think it's more likely that it is a recurring problem, fixed fairly easily, but often overlooked. And yes, there are many of these oversights on other WDW rides.
However, I think the ride is still HIGHLY effective.

If this isn't working then the ride isn't worth my time. That one element truly gives me the impression that a dinosaur would easily take me down if I ever encountered one. :hurl: Seeing it on my first ride "Dinosaur" ride helped me see what it would be like to NOT be at the top of the food chain. :o

Has anyone ever seen the pterosaur actually ever do the swooping thing? I rode Countdown To Extinction not too long after AK first opened, and it wasn't working even back then...
