Dinosaur VS Jurassic Park Ride

The very first time I road the Dinosaur ride, back when it was called Countdown to Extinction (cool name by the way) I thought it was awesome (still do actually). It was fun, a little scary, you just didn't know what was going to happen next. Even multiple rides on it didn't decrease my enjoyment of it, it made it better. The ride car was awesome, the sounds of the dinosaurs, the dark, the Carnosaurs coming at you, just awesome.

So, when the time came to finally ride Jurassic Park I was very excited. I loved the first movie and thought a ride based off of it would be equally great. So I rode it and hated it. It was boring. Boring, boring, boring. It lacked everything that made Dinosaur great.

Dinosaur felt more like Jurassic Park to me. It was as if Disney took all the excitement and adventure from the movie and put it into their ride, while Universal made the dumbest ride ever based off of an amazing film.

Is there anyone else out there who feels this way?

I agree. About the only endearing quality I found is that it was one of the few flume rides where the drop was somewhat unexpected. Other than that it is an off the shelf flume ride with a few good set pieces.

I agree for the most part. I love the drop on Jurassic Park. And Also, the ride was much better when it first opened. The last few times I have ridden it, a lot of dinosaur effects weren't working anymore.

Huge Jurassic Park movie fan. However, I agree 100%, Dinosaur is a much better dino ride (my screen name may give that away, so obviously a bias exists :)).

I think Dinosaur (CTX) is one of Disney's best and least recognized attractions. It has amazing animatronics, is exciting, scary, fun, and overall well themed. I had never been on Indy before riding this, so the entire ride system and experience took me by complete surprise my first time. After riding Indy, I understand the criticisms about how much of Dinosaur is in the dark...but I believe that adds to the sense of excitement and over the years I believe more foilage and dark lights have been added, as well as more meteor showers throughout (or perhaps I just started to realize they are there) Plus, all those large, fluid moving AA probably cost quite a bit.

JP ride has one amazing element, and that is the T-rex at the end. Otherwise, the ride lacks any really great animatronic dinos. Many times when I have ridden it seems like there is at least one if not more figures that have tears in their skin revealing some of the mechanics underneath. There is very little excitement or surprise to the ride. Still fun, but yes, I much prefer Dinosaur.

I like JP better because it is a lot less scary. :D Dinosaur scares the crap out of me! That and I always thought the T-Rex was cuter than the Carnotaur.

JP IMO is a lot better. Dinosaur is very loud, very dark and you could tell they decided to make most of the ride dark so they didn't have to add a lot to it.

JP is good because it has an actual buildup of intensity. Dinosaur has a very weak preshow and its just nowhere near as good as the Indy ride at DL. We got Dinosaur because they didnt want to invest the money to bring the Indy ride to WDW, plain and simple.

Edit: BTW, a Carnosaur isn't a real dinosaur is it?

I refused to ride JPRA for a long time because I hate drops, but now that I DO ride it I actually like it a lot. I DO think Dinosaur is a better ride, but I get a little bit of an adrenaline rush on JP which is something Dinosaur doesn't do for me.

The actual dinosaurs on JP need a lot of work though.

I also find riding JP at night is a lot more enjoyable than riding it during the day.

Everytime I ride Dinosaur I always wish I could see what the building looks like from above. It's one of those rides that seems to go on forever, reaching high levels, lots of turns and then coming back to ground level again. Most rides I just get on and enjoy, this one makes me think about it's construction. Does anyone else find themselves saying the "definitely not our dino!" line along with the dino institute character?

You know, I really enjoyed Dinosaur. It was exciting and well themed. I dont know why people rag on it so much. I know Indy is the same track/ride vehicle but they are not the same type of ride.....people should stop comparing the two.

I enjoy both for completely different reason, and wouldn't say one is better than the other, just that they are different.

If I wasn't so busy at work, I'd be more detailed, but I figured I'd chime in...

I really disagree with the "Dinosaur is dark because they didn't want to invest and take the time" line. I think Dinosaur is a great experience, and I rode it 3 times in a row the last time I was there for EMH.

JP doesn't really compare well to it.

For the record yes a carnisorus (spelling) is real. I have to say that dinosour has a lot more suprises then JP. But i think JP is fun just becouse of the fall and that is why they got away with doing the ride the way they did.

dinosaur is great for its surprises and loudness but jp is great because of the build up and the drop, if the two were mixed together you'd have one of the best rides ever made imo

i think it is really difficult to compare the two attractions. IMO it would be like trying to compare Jaws and BTMRR. Although I do like both attractions, I am hesitant to place judgement on which one is "better."

no bullding view is more impressive than the huge flume "drop towers" of the JP rides (UST,USH,USO) .. when I first saw that ride in USH I was buffled by the sheer size .. very impressive

Yes, the Carnotaurus is a real dinosaur. In fact, every dinosaur described in Dinoland are actual dinosaurs. If you take your time and look in the museum pieces in the pre-show. And look at all the bulletin boards around the Boneyard and Dig Site, they all describe actual dinosaurs. Also there is a wealth of information inside Restaurantosaurus, if you just take your time and look around. Also, in the Cretaceous Trail, all those dinosaurs are actual dinosaurs.

I think CTX is a much better name and they should change it back. Orginally, they had 23 dinosaurs planned but they only ended up with 14.

i've never rode JP but I <3 dinosaur.
The first time i rode it i went on 3 more times immediately because it was just so great!

I believe the track system felt like you were in a 4x4 and not on some smooth track is the future of how dark rides should feel. They dont have to be 'in the dark', scary fast or bumpy but the different motion just felt great!

I was bored out of my mind on JP!! As we were going though there were little suprises... just some dinos swirting water...and its nothing exciting as Dinosaur!! I love it! And I love all the different dinos..very diverse... and did you happen to know which you learn this at DAK that the T-rex was not during the time of Jurassic. I guess the name sounds more interesting then the other time period lol!
