Petition to put the Styracosaurus back into the front pond! And to move Aladar... uh. Somewhere else.

I tracked this thread down again because I wanted to see if there was any new info about the refurb - a little bummed to see the opening date moved back, since my friends will be visiting the parks for the first time October 11th and one is a huge dinosaur lover. However, the ride needs some TLC, so I'm happy it is getting some attention at least. And I can bring my friend over to UO instead, and let her meet Kilo and Zulu the "friendly" raptors.

I'm actually okay with the darkness level. I have walked the track with the lights on. Think, like, parts of fake plants stapled to things. Fake plants in pots. Legless carnotaur. More potted plants. Military netting. Etc. And since the dinosaurs are painted with blacklight paint, they don't look all that wonderful in better lighting. So I do hope they don't brighten it up all that much, if they do.

If they get the chasing Carno back in the shape it used to be, I will be so happy! That used to be my favorite part of the ride.

I'm new to this thread. Is this your standard "touch up" refurb? Or is this going to enhance the ride and make it better(and not give headaches)?

We'll be lucky if they even did any work on the existing show elements that are broken, Small World just came back from its refurb with more broken or missing elements than it had before it went down.

It was mentioned that a replacement for the broken compy affect had been conceived and was being installed, so there should be at least one improvement.

What's weird is all they did was add the Aladar statue just because the movie was released and thus the rename....I would honestly like it to be DINOSAUR: Countdown To Extinction or DCTX....

Aladar was the "hero" of the ride even before the name changed.
He has always been the Dinosaur you are sent back to capture, and the finale has always had him holding up a log to let your time Rover escape.

Other than maybe the carnotaurus, no animal "deserves" to be in front of the attraction more than him.

Which is true...However, before the movie came out...It had more of "Just a Natural History Museum" Vibe before Eisner said "Hey now we can change the name of that ride to the movie we were working on and get rid of the Styracosaurus and replace him with an Iguanadon....

Although if the Discovery River tour still existed we would have found out that Aladar ran to the River and was hiding there after we saved him...

This is like saying that the Universe of Energy's Prehistoric sequence as it is just a big ride sequence to Fantasia's Rite of Spring and calling the entire ride that...

I'm pretty sure we've had this debate before, probably in this very thread.

That Igaunodon also looks nothing like Aladar (beak instead of lips is the biggest giveaway) so it's a weak tie at best even with the preshow.

At what point in the movie's development were the iguanodons in the movie given horse lips? I remember reading that the decision wasn't made until fairly late in the development process and only as a fix to the problem of making the animals appear to "speak" convincingly.

Dino is the only ride we've ever been evac'd off of and it's definitely a testament to selective lighting. It can work, but it can also be soooo much better. Doubt they'd have the time to address the large areas of nothing in this refurb though.

Sounds like it's meant to be extremely dark then.
That's the impression I got when I first rode it, and I like it that way.

Definitely needs to be dark to hide all of the empty spaces. Darkness + dino sound effects carry the ride through those spaces of blacked out walls

Well maybe it's time for Disney to spring on some quick-and-dirty rockwork and plants?

Is Jurassic Jungle Boat Ride really the aspirational metric here?

There's a persistent rumor that Disney actually had loads and loads of scenic materials (plastic plants, waterfall pumps, etc.) all set to go for Countdown to Extinction, and they simply ran out of time to install the stuff before the park o

Or heck, since they seem to like mapped projection so much, just project stuff onto the walls. There's probably a way to make the projections scroll as the ride vehicle moves past them to give the riders an increased sensation of speed.

It's done on Kong so no reason why it can't here.
