I have been reading a lot of negative reviews and comments as to the level of service declining someone sharply for guests on the Disney Dining plan at particpating restaurants. Being on a package that includes dining next May, I was hoping to discover if anyone here can comment as to the validity of this argument, and share their experiences.

Many Thanks for your help in advance everyone!

We loved the dining plan for our family. The only complaint came from my brother, who is a DVC owner for many years with his family.
In his opinion the dining plan, especially when free, makes it practically impossible for him to be spontaneuous where he wants to eat, since things book so far in advance. When he started his DVC, October( his home month, or whatever it's called) was a lot less crowded all around.
No difference in fine service that I saw, and I dined with him twice at sit down establishments.

I have a friend who is a server at a popular WDW restaurant and she says that they love the dining plan. That their tips have gone up, especially with foreign visitors (who may not understand how the tipping thing works in the US).

I have not ever visited on the dining plan but sometimes you just get bad service. Maybe it's just because there are more guests eating in the restaurants now and people tend to complain more loudly than they compliment. ?

I'm so tired of this myth that the DDP acts as a disincentive to the servers. If anything, the DDP is a huge benefit to the servers, not a negative. First, it likely drives diners to order more expensive things, which is what their built in tip is based on. Second, it provides a guaranteed 18% tip, which I'm sure is much higher than they would average without it.

And yeah, you could argue that because it's built in, what's the incentive to work any harder as a server, but why do any of us work hard at our jobs? To keep them. The server job at WDW just got better with the DDP, so the incentive to provide good service is to keep the now sweeter job.
