Dining Plan:Appetizers for Desserts?

Hello. After 10 or more trips to Disney without using the Meal Plan we are trying it out this year. My question is this...How strict are they about Table Service? We are not particularly dessert people and I was wondering if it would be allowed to trade one or two desserts for an appetizer? I realize it probably won't happen but thought I would ask if anyone else had tried to negotiate with the Plan before.

Thanks in advance!!

While I like your thinking...and would also prefer to take that approach, the plan rules are pretty specific and are followed closely. I know a few people who have tried to negotiate this sort of thing, and while prices are equivalent, I've never heard of any success with that.

We were told at one restaurant that you could not substitute an appetizer for a dessert. The CM told us this after they learned we were on the basic plan. We never even asked if we could, mainly because we'd rather have dessert!:ROFLOL:

We are also trying the DDP for the first time in February. Kingdom Konsultants took care of the reservations for us - they are incredible!

Oh well...glad I asked here first.

We do like desserts but usually share one or two for the four of us when we do get one. A dessert for each of us just seems so excessive!!

Thanks for the info...glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way!

I can confirm that they don't let you substitute. I tried in December to no avail. The only exception was actually at a counter-serivce establishment -- at Earl of Sandwich, you can get a side item or a dessert with your sandwich/salad. But everywhere else, dessert means dessert.

At table-service places, we would just order them and eat what we could...leaving the rest behind. At quick-service, we would generally pick packaged items for dessert and take them back to our room, becoming breakfast or snacks later.

We found that if you ask, the CMs will usually let you get a cookie off the children's menu for dessert at the quick service restaurants. This was great because it meant we could carry them with us to eat later.
