Digital Camera question

I'm planning on taking my digital camera with me to Disney and I'm wondering if there's anywhere at Disney where I can get the images transfered to a CD every day so I don't have to worry about losing the camera and all the pictures too.
I remember seeing at Pop Century last year a place to develop your film .. but what about digital services?

Take a laptop - even if you have to borrow it :-) It's FREE to download them to your computer every day. If WDW does have a service to burn all your images to a CD, I'm sure it won't be cheap. Heck, just get a few of the 64 or 128Mb cards, and keep them in your room safe after you fill them - cards have really come down in $$.

There are also portable devices that you put the digital media in and it will transfer it to an internal hard drive. They aren't that expensive, try google if you are interested.

Personally, I just got a 512mb Flash Drive...I'll transfer to the laptop then to my flash. I can print them out when I get home.

Or you can just buy a 512mb media card. I've seen some as cheap as $30 with free shipping. I've got a 3 megapixel camera with a 512mb compact flash card. I have yet to run out of room on it.

I would assume with the low prices of memory cards that you can find online, it'll probably be cheaper to buy a card than to have it transferred to disk on property.

I have a 128 and a 256 that I filled up last trip. This way I can empty one and keep on going. WDW is only part of our summer trip.

I don’t remember seeing the option to transfer the photos to cd. I brought my laptop and transferred my own pictures. Depending on how long you go and how much you use your camera even a 512 MB could fill up quickly.

I would recommend bringing extra batteries. I have a new 5 mega pixel Kodak camera and the “Kodak” camera stores in the parks do not carry batteries for it. I had to keep using AA’s and they ran out quick.

The option to transfer them started after the first of the year, the no longer develop film.

I have my rechargeable batteries and I carry extra in my case, that way if one runs out I'm set till I can get back to the room.

I read that now that the film developing has ended they have installed machines to download images to CD. I think they said that they have installed these at the parks and will be putting them at the resorts in the near future. I think I read this on Debs Disney also.

Rechargeable batteries die too and often don't give you any warning. It's always best to have backup in the form of both extra rechargeable and lithium batteries. Lithium batteries have a very long shelf life. For example, I have one at my desk right now that I bought last year and it doesn't expire until 2013! Lithium batteries are expensive, but they provide good peace of mind for emergency situations. I have some experience in that area.

We were visited by hurricane Ivan during September, 2004. While the storm was going on, I had the presence of mind to charge every battery I had in the house while we still had power, especially the 3 batteries (EN-EL1) I had for the digital camera (Nikon CoolPix 4300). After the storm had cleared, we had no power for over a week. Thank goodness I had lots of compact flash cards and that I had recharged those batteries. However, those 3 rechargeable batteries didn't last more than 2 days because there were lots of pictures to shoot!

Fortunately I had previously purchased 5 lithium batteries (2CR5) for backup. They sure came in handy. I was able to take pictures right up until the power came back on line and I still had one lithium battery left and still had extra flash card space if needed.

So, the moral of the story is, Woody is retentive. :D

With a 5mp camera of course you'll fill up that card quickly  !

I am surprised with the battery life though. My Canon A70 lasts a good 250 shots before I need a recharge. And that's on the highest possible resolution. When I went on my "business trip" to Greece for the olympics, I didn't charge my batteries once, and I filled up my cards on that one. I guess it has to do with the fact my camera takes 4 AA's.

I just take my lap top to download daily. Though, my mom was able to just use her memory cards (a 128 and a 256). I had the same memory cards but tended to take more pictures (I easily filled the 256 card daily). I also had 6 rechargeable AA camera batteries and a 1 hour battery charger. I tended to go through batteries quickly (often at least 2 of the 3 sets per day), but recharged daily. I had no problems.

My mom has the Kodak charging dock and was able to make it on just her one rechargeable battery that goes with the dock. She also recharged daily, but more out of the motto "better safe than sorry" than necessity. Her camera is 4 mega pixels and mine is 3.

Many different ways and methods will work. Everyone has their own. This is just what we found would work the best for us.

Good luck.

While I was there last week, I saw signs everywhere about Disney offering to transfer pics from your memory card to a picture CD. I believe they are located in each of the parks.

We were just there at Christmas. The camera center at the entrance to EPCOT puts pictures on a disk for you. It only took about 5 minutes. It cost $12.95. One side note, we had videos on our SD card and it also downloaded these. Walgreens only downloads the pictures, so you have to keep the videos out there until you get back home.

Just a note - It`s better to use several smaller memory cards than one big one (512mb is considered `smaller` nowerdays) - imagine loosing your card data (corruption, moisture, tech fault) - if this was your dream holiday you`d loose everything (especially if you hadn`t backed up onto CD).

Good point. Unless you do not stray off-property, $4 is a small price to pay to Walgreens for a backup.
