Whoa..... caught the end of the 30 minute Pre-show to Illuminations last week. No Cusco, No John Williams, none of the old music. What the devil happened? Did they suddenly change up the music and none of us noticed? (I searched the forums and only found a veiled reference to it about the 4th of July show)

Does ANYONE "in the know" have a clue as to whats the deal???

I dont't know, but when I saw the show about two weeks ago the music was changed. I don't know about everyone else but I hate the new music. I want the old stuff back. I think this may be worse than losing resort TV.

Oh snap, the music for the 4th was permanent?!

At least I can still groove to They Were Dancing Barefoot in the comfort of my own home.

I have yet to hear this music. I am in love with the original music loop, but from what I hear, the new one isn't as much better as it is "interesting."

Instead of running a rough 30 minutes, it goes to about an hour.

I'm VERY interested to hear it.

LMAO, I don't think he had to do anything with this one.

I don't think he has had anything to do with anything since he lost that one position. Isn't the one his still has the one where he has no influence or makes the final decision?

This has been a very interesting development, from the first snippets of this relating to the Fourth of July edition of Illuminations to now, with the revelation that the former music loop has been "permanently" replaced.

I too would love to see a track listing and / or hear this new version. Can anybody describe the music more, erm, clearly?

whoa whoa whoa...you mean the entire score to ROE is gone??? Changed???
Nope. . . just the "preshow" music played around World Showcase Lagoon that played approx. 31:52 minutes before Illuminations started.

A new set of music has replaced this, which lasts about an hour.

There's no need to change the pre-show music if the actual show is "lite"...

I don't think... :lookaroun

It's 30 minutes more, so now we have a more gluttonous, "gravitationally challenged" music loop. :lookaroun
Perhaps...

I just want to hear a sample of the darned thing...

Here is some speculation

I believe that the music in the pre-show loop is almost all commercial music. Perhaps some, if not all, of the licenses have expired and Disney would have to pay more money to keep on using it.

I really don't know though. Just a thought

The Tomorrowland music loop was also changed halfway recently, and it may be for the same reason...

Now, I LIKE the new Tomorrowland loop (maybe WoL is closed because of it's loop? ) . . . but, you are right, the songs on the loop are available on various CDs.

That's right, all of the tracks from the "former" Illuminations pre-show loop are commercial... not made by Disney. The Tomorrowland loop was changed from commercial music as well to Disney music (including the return to Tomorrowland of "Now Is The Time"). So, can anybody tell us if the new Illuminations pre-show loop is comprised of Disney tunes? Or at least is not obviously commercial music?

Well Grizz, you bring up an interesting point though. I wonder how much of the "real" decision-making Michael Eisner is involved in. Let's face it, he doens't make everyday decisions for the park operations. Obviously, there is a managment staff devoted for all of those decisions. But, you would think that there are certain things which require his "blessing", so to speak. It would be interesting to know where that line is drawn.

Having said that, as most of you who have read some of my posts know, I'm no fan of Mr. Eisner. But I also know he isn't responsible for the "sky falling" either. I would hope that he is kept abreast of day to day changes that are being made, as he ultimately is the one to "fall on his sword" when it all goes wrong. But this begs the question as to who is really running the show. Changes to pre-show music, live stage shows, removing AA's, removing popular attractions, minimal park hours. These are all things that he gets criticized for on a daily basis here. I am one of those who says that he is the Captain of the Ship. In reality he can't be held responsible for everything. But what I am really getting at when I speak on this subject is that the mgmt style currently in place with the Co., doesn't seem to fit at this time. And it's curious that there doesn't seem to be any concern on his part (Eisner) to make any "big" changes. Maybe that's due to self-preservation, or lack of interest. Either way, it's not good for the Co.
