Diaper Changing in the Parks

I know this is an odd post, but could use some tips.

I hate using the drop down public changing stations in restrooms, but know we're going to have to many times while we are there. My normal plan of attack is to wipe down the area with a clorox wipe and then lay down our portable changing pad. I never used them before, but I bought some (eco friendly) disposable changing pads for this trip.

Does anyone else have any tricks that they use? Are the baby facilities better/cleaner than the normal bathrooms to change diapers?

Yes, the Baby Care centers much cleaner than the regular bathrooms. My DW used them often in the past. Nice for the mom and baby to get out of the heat to feed, change and rest. If I remember correctly, they had at least one rocking chair...probably more. It has been quite a few years for us, so I'm sure others will have a little more up to date info on them.

Baby care centers are very nice. Take a can of lysol to spray on all tables and the disposable pad rather than clorox wipes. Lysol in a can is easier to juggle than a wipe when you have a baby and all if their changing stuff. The bathroom changing areas aren't all that bad really.

The baby stations are nice and big and manned by a CM for assistance. They also have free water to fill your own bottles.

Honestly, after 3 kids, I stop worrying about stuff like that The way I change diapers, my kids' bare butts never touched the table anyways.

Haha, I only have 2, but I'm the same way.

I'm also not a huge germaphobe though so I bring a changing pad and I'm done with it. LOL.
I used the baby care centers for my first child and they are really nice and look forward to using them again in just a few weeks for my 10 month old!

Even if you don't use it to change your child's diaper, which I do suggest we used it and loved it...They have a great little play area for the toddlers. My son enjoyed playing and watching the movies they had. Its great for just some quiet time in the midst of the day's activities.

The baby care stations mentioned are really good. They also have a bathroom with adult size and child size toilets. There is an area for nursing and a room that has a TV and small table with books for kids. The changing stations if I remember right have a large piece of paper that you put on the table to do the change. There is a nurse on duty as well. Two years ago my 4 year old granddaughter had bit into one of those glow bracelets/necklaces and the juice squirted out all over. We of course freaked out. We went to the center and the nurse said not to worry, they get at least two a day with that happening and they are all non-toxic substances. WHEW! Also they have bandaids and help for minor injuries. In Magic Kingdom it is between the Emporium and the Chrystal Palace.

I have 4 kids under 6, we know our way around the Baby Care Centers The only problem is that they aren't always close to where you are in the park. As for the changing stations in the bathrooms they aren't too bad, never seen one I wouldn't use. If my kids are in the reaching and grabing stage I do try to baby wipe down the area, espically where they can touch. Like the OP said my diaper changing skills are pretty well honed now so no part of the babies bare skins touches the changing area or the changing pad, which I do use. We take our stroller so I have done many many diaper changes right in our stroller. I also have used the disposable changing pads if the diaper is dirty to contian any mess and keep my stroller or any changing area clean.
The Baby Care Centers are GREAT! After one HORRIBLE diaper blow out that had ________ in my son's hair I was able to give him a quick bath in a sink. I told the CM working and she giggled and said we weren't the first of the day...I also asked for the cleaning supplies because I didn't want to leave the sink gross for the next family. She WOULD not let me clean it my self and thanked me for wanting too. On that same visit to the Baby Care Center all 6 of us fell alseep while I was nursing the baby in the rocking chair...DH and I though it was less than 10 mins and we were glad no one else was waiting to sit or use the rocking charis...Have a lovely trip!

It's been a while since I've changed diapers at WDW, but as I recall there were few, if any, drop-down changing tables. My recollection is that they have a designated, built-in changing counter in each of the larger Ladies' room.

I invested in chux pads, which I tossed after each use. I think I just used baby wipes to clean the area before I used it - I'm not much of a germaphobe, but I do wash my hands constantly.

I haven't changed one in a few years either, but I do remember seeing the same countertop areas in the men's rooms as well (at least in some of the more "updated" ones).

And we used the same disposable pads too. Hated adding to the landfill, but they were quite convenient for us.

We loved the care centers. They are super clean, the CMs are so nice and they have lots of things available. We lost our diaper cream and werfe able to purchase some there. I got dehydrated when I was in AK pregnant and they were air conditioned and I was able to sit and drink water while my son played.

For the most part, we tried to change our son in our own stroller to avoid the time to look for a place and worry about the cleanliness of a bathroom when the centers weren't near us.
