Has anyone been there lately? I remember it having a show going on and you could sit and each lunch (Like Hoop-De-Doo a little). Is it now just a counter service eatery? Do they still do the show?

No and I will never understand it. It seems to me the DHR was a cash cow and a great attraction for the MK. Maybe someone is an expert about it on these boards and can explain what the history of that venue is and why the show shut down. I am as intested as you are.

I went inside in March and they had it set us as a fast food location with sandwiches and drinks.....

Terrible waste. what would Wally Boag think

I just had an idea. If they don't want to run a live show maybe they could relocate the Country Bears show in there and create a Table Service that has a small segment of music/entertainment every 15 minutes or so. They could even do the Christmas overlay every year. That would definitely make the CBJ and DHR relevent again and at least the bears would be earning their keep.

One explanation I read (don't recall where) was that it was basically replaced by the Hoop-de-do Revue (even though most MK guests never go near Ft. Wilderness).

No, I think HddR and DHR ran concurrently for a long time. They were really completely different experiences. The DHR was a great little show, and not so elaborate (toward the end), and I think really added something to that area of the park. It's a real shame that it's become what it is today.

When I was in DLP a few years back, they're equivalent (I don't remember if it has a different name) was fabulous. A casual sit-down meal with waiter service. A bit larger venue, I think. Real can-can dancers. In French and English. Wonderful experience. I wish the one in MK could be like that!

Sadly, DHR can be added to the list of extremely underused locations:

Diamond Horseshoe Revue
The Odyssey
Wonders of Life
20K UtS's land
Both Skyway buildings
Galaxy Palace Theater
World Showplace
Hunchback Theater, etc.

DHR was GREAT in it's early days and I think it may even predate HddMR at Fort Wilderness. I have heard that it confused guests as to which show was which and that might be what motivated it's removal. The HddMR was a seperate ticket (as was the Poly Luau) and was an early money maker for the resort. But I am not sure that is the real story of why it shut down. Anyone know?

I was thinking they could also do an animatronic show utilizing Steampunk theming that was loosly based on the look of the Wild Wild West TV show and movie. Basically a mad scientist demonstrating a bunch of different contraptions that continually malfunction for laughs. That would be fun. Some of them could even be musical devices.

Wasn't Woody's Round-up in there for a bit or am I thinking of something else?

I thought it was a character meal with goofy or pluto but I think that has been discontinued. It is really a shame that they don't take better advantage of that facility as it really is beautiful. And if there is one thing the MK is short on it's Table Service restaurants. I still think western steampunk would make a great overlay with some kind of stage show. But at the very least they should do something with the place.

Ahhhh, I always thought it was a meal show with the Toy Story characters do a show called Woody's Round-up, a stage show with singing, and toy story mayham. But then, I guess that would keep with the theme and tie-in that Disney loves.
Thank you for your prompt answer.

You could very well be right. They have tried several different ideas in the best few years I believe but none as good as the original. I know they have a troop of dancers that put on a show in the streets of Frontierland and you would think that they could perform in the theater instead. But who knows? I am far from an expert on such things. I would be happy if they made it a simple TS restaurant or buffet style restaurant as long as the food was good.

They could even turn it into an elaborte ice cream/dessert table service restaurant.:slurp:

Our family enjoyed watching the shows at the Diamond Horseshoe. Sitting upstairs in the balcony was great - good view of the show and the theatre. It was nice to be able to sit down in the air conditioning and have a cold drink while watching the different shows.

I just thought of another idea. Disney could sign a contract for Ghirardelli to run an Ice Cream Parlor in that location. How popular would that be????

I should be getting a consulting fee!

As I recall, there was an ice-cream parlour there for a while. Was it 1999? I can't remember.

I'm pretty sure the place is just a "meet woody and bullseye" location. No show anymore.

Then during MVMCP it's a cookie & cider location.

I think.

Either way... HOLY COW WHAT A WASTE.
