The rumor of Little Mermaid going away at DHS just makes sense if they are making Pixar a heavy presence around Toy Story. LM wouldn't fit into any of the surrounding areas if it was left. It was a fantastic fit when Art of Animation was there but by itself its just odd.

While the show is fun and doesn't seem to take up a lot of real estate the lasers and projections need a huge upgrade so maybe it can be moved to an area in MK perhaps build a small building behind Aerial's current meet and greet if there is room next to the ride although it is a bit redundant next to the ride.

Like others said just move One Man's Dream to Epcot. It could fill in some of that empty space around Futureworld.

In the past, attractions have often closed around fiscal year end. Makes budgeting and things a little cleaner that way. If you're already planning to close somewhere around that time, might as well time it to fiscal year-end.
IIRC, the funds the board approved will start flowing at the beginning of FY '16.

I know that most sensible people here are expecting some type of announcements for DHS at D23 but nothing extravagant. Out in the interwebz, however, there is a site that shall not be named that is inferring that we will definitely be hearing about both PIXAR and Star Wars expansions at D23. Furthermore, said site is also indicating that rumors are pointing towards information on a Fantasmic refurb, red car trolley attraction and a completely revamped theater on Sunset Blvd.

Hmmm…..

There is intentional disinformation being put out there in an attempt to trace back leaks.

Hence why no one is putting their neck out there.

They appear to be keeping Disney Jr though. And, although the Animation building is reported to become a Blue Sky preview area, it doesn't mean it won't be changed back to a regular attraction at some point.

The Little Mermaid is going away, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some significant WDAS presence in new DHS.
