DHS Makeover - What we know so far.....

I am old enough to remember when the Sci-Fi Dine-In carhops wore roller skates. If you are currently impressed by the elaborate theming, then you truly would have appreciated the plussing. It was not Xanadu-esque rollerskating, but the cast members were more on point with the storytelling.

Ugh, Mike, you are making me nostalgic for the Disney that was :(

Would it really make sense for there to be roller skating carhops at a drive-in? The skates might have made sense for a restaurant themed as a drive through, but the parking area for drive in theaters was almost always loose gravel, unnavigable by roller skates.

Was just at DHS; there are construction walls in between Path of the Jedi and the restrooms near Star Tours. I'm not entirely sure what they're for.

Here's what I found from wdwt.combif this is too much info please on one post please let md know and I'll kindly delete
it. Any of this seems 100% accurate or close?

The following changes are rumored/expected to occur as part of this makeover: Talking about DHS:
Looks like Indy stunt spectacular is staying after all according to this site. No mention about a newer version of a Indiana jones ride is on here sadly to Indy fans.
  • The budget for the total makeover is expected to be roughly $2.8 billion. A $3.5 billion budget was rumored to have been approved for the entire resort with $300-350 million allocated to improvements at the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.
  • The budget will be for work done from 2015-2021. It does not include projects that have already been approved like the third track for Toy Story Midway Mania or the Flex Theater
  • Significant infrastructure improvements are expected. This would likely include a new entrance to the park's Parking lot. The expectation is that the World Drive entrance would be removed with a new entrance coming from Victory Way. It is also likely that parking structures are created for guest and cast member parking.
  • With closures to the Studio Backlot Tour and surrounding areas, the Toy Story Land expansion is expected to happen first, followed by the Star Wars Land.
  • Additional Star Wars Content
    • Site prep is expected in 2016
    • Major construction should begin in late 2016, but phases of Star Wars Land could open as soon as late 2018.
    • The budget for Star Wars and other Hollywood Studios enhancements/infrastructure improvements has been reported to be roughly $2.8 billion.
    • Elements from Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens will be included.
    • Location of the new land has not been determined. One scenario includes Star Wars Land taking over Echo Lake. That plan would begin at or around Hollywood and Vine and extend to the current location of Star Tours. This would be a street that connects Hollywood Boulevard directly to Star Tours with many side streets. This plan may also see some expansion into the parking lot. Other reports have indicated that Echo Lake expansion is unlikely.
    • Another location possibility would be expanding into the Parking lot
    • The Jedi Training Academy would move indoors into the Hyperion Theater (Currently home to For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Musical Celebration). Show changes may also include a Yoda animatronic
    • All movie set theming would be removed from the existing Star Tours area.
    • Backlot Express is expected to become the Cantina.
    • Guests will be able to visit a Cantina and watch the touring band from Mos Eisley Cantina. The Cantina will accommodate 300-500 guests.
    • One of the new Star Wars attraction is expected to take the footprint of the current Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular
    • Another new Star Wars attraction could be North East of the current Star Tours.
    • 50's Prime Time Cafe and/or Hollywood & Vine could both become character dining.
    • Imagineers are pushing for a large streetmasphere presence with interactive components built into the surroundings.
  • Additional unconfirmed Toy Story content
    • Toy Story Land will result in the demolition of One Man's Dream and The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow buildings.
    • The land will be behind (West) the existing Toy Story Midway Mania building and include parts of the Studio Backlot Tour and Lights Motors Action practice area. It is expected to extend to World Drive (the current park barrier).
    • The current Pixar Place area will close and a new entrance to Toy Story Midway Mania will be made on the opposite side of the building.
    • The land is expected to open in 2017-2018
  • Additional Unconfirmed Pixar Content
    • The Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playset is expected to close and potentially be re-themed to "A Bug's Life".
    • Total Pixar Land could be twice the size of Star Wars Land and include Radiator Springs Racers
    • Monster's Inc Laugh Floor to be relocated from Tomorrowland to the area being used for Star Wars Launch Bay.
    • The Monster's Inc Door Coaster to be placed behind Monster's Inc Laugh Floor.
    • Pixar will be the right side of the park.
    • Toy Story Land expected to open in 2017-2018 with additional Pixar content being build before 2022.
  • A new indoor attraction is expected that utilizes the LPS technology used in Ratatouille in Disney Studios Paris, Mystic Manor in Hong Kong Disneyland, and Pooh's Hunny Hunt in Tokyo Disneyland. The theme and location of this attraction has not been determined but it has been rumored to be the long term replacement of The Great Movie Ride. This change isn't expected to occur until after the Turner Classic Movies Sponsorship ends (2020-2021 time frame).
  • Lights, Motors, Action to close.
  • The Animation Gallery is expected to close in late August.
  • The Block Party Bash parade from Disney California Adventure to move to Hollywood Studios
  • Hollywood & Vine and Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular are expected to remain, at least for the short term.
  • Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage is expected to be replaced. Rumors include a Villains inspired show, a Tangled show, or upgrades to the existing show related to the Broadway production.
  • Voyage of the Little Mermaid is rumored to close at the end of September 2015 and ultimately be replaced.
  • Closure or relocation of Walt Disney: One Man's Dream. It is expected to have it's last day of operation on January 2, 2016.
  • Closure of The Academy of Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame Plaza is expected to have it's last day of operation on January 2, 2016.
  • Closure of the Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Doc McStuffins, and Sofia the First Meet and Greets are expected to have their last day of operation on January 2, 2016.
Block Party Bash already did move from DCA a few years back then was butchered into the Pixar Play Parade.

I wonder if Toy Story, Monsters Inc, and Cars are the most merchandise-selling Pixar franchises - seems like they get the bulk of theme park development (along with Nemo). I'd like to see a little more Incredibles action myself :D (Also Up.)
Incredibles is a possible contender. I know Monsters Inc is favored but don't believe a final decision has been made. There are also discussions of whether two new Star Wars rides are enough.

I'm in DHS now. The coffee shop by the cars M&G is void of all supplies. All that is inside are the machines that are too heavy to carry. Over by star tours the area between the shed restrooms and the old radio station is walled off.

I love Monsters Inc, so of course I'd like to see Monstropolis.

Cars Land would be pretty cool, too.

The Incredibles? Sure. The one problem is that I can't really think of much attraction material from that film, other than an awesome dark ride/roller coaster hybrid.
A dark ride/roller coaster hybrid would be awesome. The Incredibles would be a great addition. From reading the Toy Story Land thread it doesn't sound like TSL really needs 11 acres, they should make it Pixar Place and put in a bunch of Pixar themed attractions as well as the attractions planned for TSL. But that's just my opinion

Will the two Star Wars rides be enough? Will they design the land to allow for additional attractions in the future? There is a huge parking lot behind that area if they don't place a parking garage there.

I'm hoping they are re-thinking the size of SWL. Hopefully they expand the project from Star Tours - all the way down and take over LMA. Time will tell. I hope the success of TFA makes them want to hit it out of the park.

People keep suggesting Monstropolis but what actually would that consist of? I don't recall Monstropolis really being fleshed out in the movie like Radiator Springs was for Cars. The majority of Monsters Inc takes place in the door factory.

Good point. I'd love to see Monstropolis but there isn't a ton to do for it. The Door Coaster would be the huge draw if Disney uses it. There has to be some other ride in the land, maybe a dark ride. I know Disneyland has one but I think it could be elevated if brought to DHS.

There'd also probably be a meet with Mike and Sulley and the restaurant that's in the movie. I can't quite remember it's name right now.

Maybe a Monsters University section as well? That could include one additional attraction and even though the movie wasn't great, it could be a very nice area if done well.

This is me thinking big, I don't know what everyone else thinks.
