DHS Makeover - What we know so far.....

Ah rite, so now we are waiting till Decemeber for an announcement?

LOL you can't make this up. In Decemeber you will come back and say you meant the following December,

Meanwhile DHS has nothing new.
Let's face it guys ... quit the trolling. There are no insiders. There is nothing new coming DHS.

There is almost a sad naivity and child like innocence on some posters to want to believe something big is coming. Not facing the reality of the situation, unable to grasp that the parks Walt once built are being ruined and left to rot.

You can go all the way back to 2012 when there were rumours Star Wars land was coming to Disney, and nothing. More recently these rumours have been fuelled by the diabolical state DHS has been left in. We've had rumours of an imminement announcement for over a year now, and then all the rumours and 'in the knows' were adamanant Disney were going to spring something big at D23 . Now those same people are saying perhaps around December.

It seems impossible to actually think that YES Disney are cutting back over in Orlando - they are taking attractions away, cutting costs - asset stripping. For alot of people (myself included) that is hard to fathem. We've had attractions that have been closed for over a year now and no building works in their place. Ask yourself why were those attractions just not left open if no construction was imminent? Ask yourself why Captain EO is being bought back to fill the park up? It's all do with corporate profit.

Ask yourself when they have the biggest product in probably it's history with Frozen - they chose to do a cheap relay of an atrocious Malestrom attraction. That spells the whole ambition of the current CEO. An attraction that will get money, but ultimately will leave a sour taste is most of us knowing they should have done a whole lot more.

We will get Avatar Land, although how big and immersive it finally becomes remains to be seen - but you sure as hell know with this CEO cut backs will come somewhere down the line. And that's it.

All those dreaming of Star Wars Land, Pixar Land - yes they may eventually come, but not within the next decade - and definately not with this CEO BOB IGER. The man is not interested in theme parks - he is interested in corporate profit.

All those who want to continue to dream go head, all those who want to keep being Disney rewarded mums keep it going - but at the end of the day the proof is in the pudding - and i see no construction anywhere.
"decemeber"
"imminement"
"adamanant"
"fathem"
"definately"

it's almost like you aren't reading a thing you yourself are writing

Does anyone else think Streets of America should stay? Regardless of the space constraints, looking at the street on its own, it is a nice place and has great theming. If they add shops and attractions, it could be a pretty cool place and not cheap like other parts of the studios. Or is it better to get rid of the old and start fresh?

I personally hope they find a way to keep it, but I have no idea at this point. SOA has always been my TSI of Studios. And especially if they add Star Wars and Pixar, it'll be the only place left to at least attempt to get away from crowds. But I must admit that it can't stay as complete dead space, and it'll be interesting to see if the conversion of the one shop to Mr. Gold's did anything for that area. I wouldn't be upset if the facade became a few small stores/walkthroughs/etc. And I would just very much like for Osborne Lights to continue to have a permanent home (I still don't understand the argument that they will move to Disney Springs where people won't have to pay admission).

Local positioning system. It's used in "trackless" attractions like Pooh's Hunny Hunt and Aquatopia in Tokyo, Ratatouille in Paris, and Mystic Manor in Hong Kong. Check out videos of any of those on youtube if you haven't seen them before. The Ratatouille attraction even incorporates 3D projections similar to Spider-Man / Transformers.

A version of Ratatouille would be great for DHS, whether a clone or rethemed to something like the Incredibles.

People have to remember that demolition costs alot of money.

The DCA redo had very minimal demolition, with most of the changes coming from redoing the facades of existing buildings.

Other than the demo of the Golden Dreams theater, nothing much I can remembered was demolished. The only new buildings DCA got for its 1 billion were Cars Land, the Little Mermaid, and Cathay Circle.

In DHS though I believe much more demolition and construction of brand new buildings will need to take place to help with the master planning and layout, thus requiring more money and resulting in fewer attractions than we think we can get for supposedly 3 billion.

Demolition, relatively speaking, isn't that expensive. Construction, design, painting, electrical, plumbing, wiring ... none of that is part of demo. Wreck, smash, bulldoze, done. By comparison, it just a lot cheaper than building. Not "cheap" per se, but not expensive when taken in the context of $2+ billion.

Just as an off the wall example, When Yankee Stadium was demolished in 2009/2010, the cost was reportedly $22 million. That's a HUGE undertaking in a highly populated urban environment where everything costs more to do, and they weren't permitted to do any implosions, they actually had to tear it down piece-by-piece. If you look at other large-scale demolition projects like that (stadiums and such), they rarely go much above $10-$20M or so. And the demo work that would need to be done at DHS shouldn't go much beyond that scope/scale. Even if the demo work went several times that (unlikely), it's still just a small dent in the budget.

There won't be huge amounts of expensive demolition. What is required will mainly be quite easy.

I'm really excited to see this goofball choke on his words in the coming weeks/months:D:hungry::hilarious:;)

Thats just it..he can (and will) be proven 10000% wrong, but he will still find something to complain about. A true sign of someone with nothing better to do with his life but troll internet forums. The saddest thing about it is that this is how he finds joy in his life....

I agree. I'd love for the Ratatouille ride to come here or to get an Incredibles ride at Pixar Land. I'm a bit worried that the Pixar we'll get will just be more of the same, aka Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, Cars, and Bug's Life. Those ones already have plenty of attractions at all Disney parks, so PLEASE give some other ones like Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall-E, etc some time to shine. Yeah, I know we're probably getting Toy Story Land, but I hope everything else Pixar-related is different.

That's good to hear. In that case though I hope they demo as much as possible. Though it is cheaper to use existing buildings and not have to deal with a new structure, enclosure, electrical, etc. I hope they don't go the easy way and try to save as much as possible like they did in DCA.

Essentially Disney attractions are warehouse buildings with a pretty facade.

Wait ... I'm still trying to get up to speed (I've been absent from the board for a while) ... Is the general consensus from insiders that there will not be a D23 announcement about DHS?

The only thing that I've heard was @WDW1974 suggesting that the rebranding could be announced.

Other than that, I've never expected anything. No details on Star Wars for DHS will come out, mostly because the movie isn't out yet. (I think Ive said that for over a year now).

I expect Avatar & DAK news/details. Everything else is being held close to the vest.

I wouldn't be surprised if PIXAR Place Phase 2 (TSPL) is also mentioned.
