DHS Imagineering Field Guide

I would have had no problems with the BAH if it would have served its intended purpose: a temporary icon for "100 Years of Magic". Unlike "teh Wand", it's actually pretty cool and is a good symbol for Disney Animation/Magic. If it had left in 2002, I believe there would be less if not no venom towards it.

That being said, I think if you want to blame Imagineers, I'd blame the ones who designed the park to be one large hot mess, with no identifiable icon, and a terrible layout. I'm glad they learned their lesson with DAK.

I agree. I like the Hat, honestly, it looks nice. Same thing for the "2000" Wand. It looks nice, had a purpose, and overstayed it's welcome.

I don't blame the ORIGINAL Imagineers. They had a unique concept for a Studio and a Park mashed into one. If you think THAT was a bad idea, that's your opinion.

...I blame the WDI people that let MGM go downhill and BECOME a park with these problems.

Meh, the wand never symbolized the millenium or EPCOT.

Well, they did what they could in the short time they were given. No matter what, the original layout obviously didn't take expansion into consideration. The park does not flow and is hard to naviagate. See Universal Studios for well-planned studio park.

Also, I think D-MGM is one of the legitimate gripes one can have with Michael Eisner. The park was rushed from the word "go" and I think there may have been a miscommunication between management and Imagineering about the future of the park. I think the original Imagineers may have been under the impression that it was never going to be a "full day park" and that's why it was designed to be so small. Interesting to think Pleasure Island opened that same year. I think Michael may have been more interested in that project because Imagineering really went all out on it (perhaps too much according to some).

EPCOT? No. But it was good for the Millennium. Certainly gave EPCOT a monumental feel.

Never had THAT much trouble navigating....Honestly, I know it's sacrilege, especially from me, but EPCOT is a pain to navigate. Too big, but it needs to be.

Agreed on the rush, and on PI. We all know that PI was his baby. However, I don't feel that they would ever want to have anything at a "Half Day"...even back then. I did read somewhere though, that it was build around the size of DL, however, for that "charm" and "quaint" feel. Mind you, it has that in SOME places in the Studios, but, IMHO....it fails at that, for the most part.

At least EPCOT's layout makes sense.

Ah, the Hong Kong Disneyland excuse

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
Was wondering if anyone has insight as to why this Field Guide has been delayed so long. It has gone way past it's initial release date. Amazon has it listed as being released July 27, 2010. What's with the delay? Could they holding off on publishing pending an announcement of DHS additions?

How much can you say about a half day park with not a lot going on? :lookaroun

I mean.. at this point it wont be a book.... it will be more like a reeeally thin pamphlet.:lookaroun:lookaroun

It is funny how every thread around here about DHS ends up in an argument about the hat. :ROFLOL:

By the way, I really need to start ordering stuff from Amazon because around here I can't find any Disney books! :(

Yet another time where you speak before you know all the facts.

FYI, Eric Jacobson was the lead Imagineer for the BAH. He's a VERY high ranking Imagineer, and is the Senior Vice-President of Creative Development Walt Disney Imagineering. In plain english, Eric is one of Disney’s most senior Imagineering executives and he has strong ties to the origins of Disney's Hollywood Studios. Jacobson worked on projects ranging from Buzz Lightyear, the Great Movie Ride and Tower of Terror, and recently was involved with the additions and enhancements to Pirates of the Caribbean. Jacobson has had a career that spans over 30 years with Disney.

The BAH was meant to be temporary....Even he dislikes it, as he said on May 1st of this year.

Credit to Studios Central for my fact check.

I admit I had no idea he created this- I'm no Imagineer expert.

The only thing I ponder is why he made it knowing it would cover the GMR. With his track record, he should of known this would of gotten on Disney fan's nerves.

Irony!

Actually, apart from lacking a bit in the attractions category, I think DHS does have a lot of material in terms of story and design. There a many details throughout the park that 99.5% of guests who have been through the park probably never realize. :(

Exactly.

DHS also has so many restaurants. All unique and all very popular.

I wouldn't go by the cover, folks if your hopes are crushed that the hat is still there. The MK book had Timekeeper still featured in it. (and that lasted long)
