Desperate for Song Of the South DVD

On this very site there is an advertisement for www.mysongofthesouth.com and they are selling DVD copies of Song of the South for $19.98. My wife has never seen Song Of the South and I am determined to get a DVD copy somehow. I know (or at least I THINK I know) that a Song Of The South DVD was sold at Disneyland Paris several years back and the DVDs that www.mysongofthesouth.com are selling look just like them. I have currently been bidding on a copy at Ebay but I know I won't win the bid because most of them end up going for $80.00-$100.00 and as desperate as I am I won't(and can't)spend that much for it. My question is this: Has anyone on WDWMagic purchased Song Of the South from this company and if so how was the quality? Even if these aren't legitimate copies I am still tempted to buy a copy just so I can add Song Of The South to my library. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated!

dolby - Some people don't use the search feature, that is why there are lots of threads. Another board I am on takes the same subject threads and merges them into 1 thread.

Anyway, Fizzle - here is the latest thread about this very company: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=158913&highlight=song+of+the+south

Some other links on the subject of the Song of the South :)

There are many more threads, if you go to: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/search.php?searchid=1148854 and start on page 5 that is where I left off. Some are just about Brer Rabbit others are about the DVD release (which BTW was supposedly going to happen last March, as you know it never did)

I went ahead and placed my order. So I'll let you know if it's any good. I guess if it isn't, I'm only out 20 bucks.

If these DVD's look just like the ones you saw and DL Paris, it could be that this company has somehow acquired all the unsold copies and are re-selling them. If this is the case, then there is surely a limited supply and once they're gone, they're gone.

Well, I don't mind reading more than one post for a topic. Keeps things moving along and gives me more to read everyday. I think I've read those old posts a million times anyway.:)

Anyway, I'm dying to see Song of the South too. But that site just doesn't seem all that reliable. It reminds me of a guy selling watches out the inside of his trench coat.

Iger said they were going to revisit re-releasing it. Whatever that means. But I'm hoping maybe we'll get to see a "official" release soon!! :sohappy:

just look in the dvd forum at least one SOTS thread was opened every day (and was moved there)

I guess

those are for sure bootlergers and I don't think they can remaster a dvd, if they are not capable of creating a non eye cancer causing website

It's a scam. You'd be better off just download it (I'm sure someone can tell you how) or just waiting for Disney to re-release it. The current rumor is that they are revisiting their decision not to, and will probably be putting it back out. Or there is always the older VHS off e-bay.....that's how I got my copy a few years back!

You can download it off Mousebits. It's probably the same exact copy those bootlegged DVDs are made of, and it's free.

Well, I have a real copy (Japanese import laserdisc). Yes, I know I got hosed when laserdiscs went out of fashion, but having a pristine digital copy of this one still makes it worth it. And as a bonus, you can select an alternate audio track - I gotta tell you, there's not much funnier than listening to Uncle Remus in Japanese :ROFLOL:

I would love to see SOTS again, whats really sad is I was so young the last time I saw it I hardly remember anything about it.

I sure hope they do decide to re-release it, that was a classic movie. I mean come on it has an entire attraction devoted to it, and half the world has never seen it.

One of my friends bought a good one off ebay that was issued I believe in the PAL format used in Europe. She had a store transfer it to VHS for her.....made me a vhs copy which seemed pretty good, not sure what became of it though. Sure you could get one transferred to DVD from PAL if you can find a copy still. GOOD LUCK!

I don't think I ever saw the movie, but I had a book which came with a record that you played along as you read. It's the only way I can account for knowing the storyline and all the songs....

Thanks for the advice everyone! I think I'm gonna go with sbKline and go ahead and place an order(assuming my lovely wife will "authorize" it:lol: ),even if the quality isn't very good at least I will have a physical copy to add to my Disney library until Disney decides to officially release it. I'm not very computer savvy so the whole idea of downloading it from a website and, I am assuming, then watching it on my computer just isn't appealing at all.

sbkline, please do let us know when you get your copy and tell us about the quality. By the way, how long ago did you place your order?

Go to youtube and search for Song Of the South and you will be able to watch it. It is broken up into 3 or 4 episodes, which is a pain, but it is well worth it as it is an absolutely fantastic film! Splash Mountain will make much more sense and be much more enjoyable(as if that were possible:lol: )if you have seen the film. go to youtube right now, don't wait, seriously...stop reading this thread and go check it out. GO RIGHT NOW! We'll wait.:D

listening to the inside the magic podcast this week it seems disney might issue at last! i cant see the problem with it,same thing as gone with the wind with slavery and stuff and theres no problem with that being re reaslesed every year on a new 'ultimate' dvd! people know thats its it set in a time where things were different ,at least its not portaying black slaves as criminal thugs! as is the norm

This morning...a few minutes after I read your opening post.

So did you decide to order it, or are you satisfied with the version you watched on the computer while ago?

I'm 98.7% sure I will order it,assuming my DW is ok with it but I'm sure she will be, she is dying to see it since she has never seen it and she, like myself, looooves Splash Mountain and the music from it.

I first found it on youtube several months ago and added it to my favorites but I am by no stretch of the imagination satisfied by just being able to watch it on youtube. I am one of those folks that hates the idea of downloading everything and not having a tangible copy of it. The thought of one day not being able to actually purchase a physical copy of a dvd or cd both saddens and terrifies me. I love packaging, when I first buy a dvd (especially a Disney DVD)I can't wait to tear it open and admire the cover art, disc art and instert art/layout. I'm the same way with cds, I love to read the lyrics, liner notes and thank yous. A digital booklet just isn't the same. Going online and perusing a list of DVDs or CDs just isn't as satisfying as actually going to Best Buy or Wal-Mart and flipping through the DVDs and CDs IMHO.

Sorry, didn't mean to chase a rabbit there...

Nope. Believe me it`s a very high quality digitally transferred recording (the MouseBits one)
S.O.T.S. gets shown on tv over here now and then!

It has been on BBC2 several times (though not for at least 18 months).
Much more recent. See my above post ;)
