Deluxe resorts are too expensive

Too expensive for us. Stayed many trips at Value Resorts with most stays at Pop Century. I stayed at Caribbean Beach in September and have a return trip there for May 29,2011. Have stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter when we got it for $99 way back when. My dream resort would be the Polynesian but will never be able to afford it, so my vote is YES. 66 days till next vacation .:sohappy:

We are Deluxe snobs, but YES, the Deluxes are far too expensive compared to the amenities that you get. But we still pay the prices, although never rack rate.

Totally agree as I'm a Deluxe snobs. I know people say it's only room. To me there is so much more to do at a Deluxe around the resort. I actually get tired at the theme parks...dare I say bored at times :zipit: I've been so many times the last 6 years and there hasn't been that many new attractions. So I've stated to enjoy activities around the park, especially at BC and AKL. Now at AKL you can sit in the rooms for hours and enjoy the Savannah. AS for BC, you have the sand beach, boardwalk, restraruants, boats, movie on the beach, the large pool, etc. To add to that, it is all about location and Epcot is a great walk to Epcot where we enjoy dining.

Sure, it is always nice to pay less for anything, but considering the prices of luxury hotels in Florida, they are on par. Check rates for the Breakers in Palm Beach or the Don Cesar in St. Petes and your jaw will drop. Their standard rooms are tiny, you pay a daily valet fee, no free anything just like Disney's. What you get is amazing location, lavish themed decor, and many amenities, most of which cost more.
The hotels are not there for those to stretch their budget and complain it's to expensive, they are there for the ones who can afford it and want all the extras. And having stayed at many disney resorts, hands down, I prefer the deluxe, but we also spend much of the day at the resort to enjoy it. If you just want a bed and a shower, they might not be for you.

People who say Disney deluxe resorts are worth the money have never really been to a true deluxe resort. I understand demand dictates the price, but there is absolutely nothing "deluxe" about them. I've been to plenty of hotels around the world that would put any Disney deluxe to shame, including the Grand Floridian.
I will only stay at moderates because that's as much as I can bare paying without feeling like I'm being taken advantage of.

One of my biggest pet peeves with the Beach Club. Since Swan/Dolphin are technically not in the Disney Deluxe Resort Category, why do they share busses with the Beach Club and Boardwalk? They should have their own busses, IMHO.

Honestly the prices without discount are completely rediculous. I've stayed in vegas at the cosmopolitan (newest hotel in Vegas) 900 square foot room, 2 50" flatscreens, living room with couch, a walk in shower I could do laps in, and my view is 15 storeys up on the side of the bellagio fountains, oh not to mention the 15 foot long balcony that I could sit outside and watch the fountain shows, felt like a rockstar all for $300 per night and I'm about to choke down a $370 per night booking at beach club with tiny rooms, thin walls and hard mattresses. For 2 weeks, its $6300. Are you kidding me, it makes me sick.
But the market will bear what it will bear. Fortunately I can afford it and would even pay more than that because there is no place in the world like WDW. I've been very lucky in my life to travel extensively, but no place on this earth makes me feel even close to that magical, shivers up my spine feeling that DW can give me. It will be my girlfriends first time and I can't wait to expose her to that experience. It's a drug and they've got me hooked.

It all depends. For a couple of days, maybe, but who really only stays for a couple of days. The deluxe prices are comparable in price to staying at a Great Wolf Lodge but those include water park passes.
When I go elsewhere on vacation (yup, I venture off
), I don't stay at cheap places. I stay at places that would be like a deluxe Disney resort but I usually don't stay for a week or more like I do at Disney. (like if I were going to Hershey Park)
I think Disney deluxe resorts are awesome and the themings are great. Some of the resorts may be worth the $ more so than others, too. Basically i'm not sure how to answer the question....it depends on the resort. I don't think $810 a night is acceptable, though....I can do a lot with that money.

It's no secret that Disney's Deluxe Resorts aren't on par with some of the outside world's deluxe resorts, but your statement isn't true. I've been to hotels that were just as expensive as the GF, and weren't nearly as nice, well appointed or offered nearly as many amenities.
Yes, I think the GF and Poly are too expensive. However, at the end of the night when everyone is fighting to get out of the Magic Kingdom by car, I'm not complaining about jumping on the monorail and being back in my room in under 10 minutes.

Yes, the rates are ridiculous which is why I won't stay in them unless I get a discount. I even got the free dining pin for the summer and it's still costing us $4400 and we switched to AKL which is generally cheaper. YC was $5600. DD wanted to stay at the Poly which was $7100 - not happening. I'm even considering a moderate at this point and DH wants to stay off site. 
Compare the nightly rates to other 4 and 5 star resorts in the general area and you can see how much Disney price gouges you.

I agree. The only bus we generally take is to MK and it's always been slow, but we're on vacation so we don't generally mind.

Totally agree. I think Hard Rock at US is by far superior to anything at Disney, for less money, but when i go to Disney, i want to be immersed in Disney. For me, that includes the BWI:king: I alway try not to think about the money, just enjoy the experience:wave:

As a former business traveler who has stayed in a wide range of hotels, for the quality of the room Disney Deluxe Resorts do not match up with their industry counterparts.
The fact that they are still using the fuzzy hotel blanket and thin comforter combo as opposed to the linen sheet/duvet combo that is found at even your most basic Hampton Inn should be a sign.
On a bright note though we did recently stay at BLT and they did have a nice duvet instead of the thin comforter. So perhaps change is coming.

Royal Pacific Resort & Hard Rock Hotel at Universal are both much nicer than the Deluxe hotels @ Disney I have been in & a lot cheaper. :shrug:

Well I cant say ever, I am sure someone that may be trying to get rid of boat loads of cash quickly would, but normal people go thru travel agents, find discounts online, or passholder/Florida residents, etc.
I have noticed Disney would rather keep room empty and keep the higher prices for some reason that we do not know. Maybe its a write off.
Who knows but no smart person would pay 700 for one night in an average room.

The last time we stayed at the Polynesian; we got a passholder rate of $159.00. That was in 1999. I was willing to pay that as the kids were young and we spent more time in the resort. Now..........I would be lucky to get POR for that rate. Problem is: my income hasn't risen to keep up with Disney's rate increases 
I earn the same then as I do now...........
To fathom affording $350 per night, plus tickets, plus food, and $3.50 a gallon to get there....... Disney has priced this mom out for now..
