Deluxe Hotel, what are you really getting?

That's actually one pool I'm not hugely fond of. Neither is the rest of the family for a few reasons. We prefer Polynesian, Kidani or OKW's more.

Is Kidani's pool a lot better than Jambo? I am staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for the first time this summer and was a little bummed to hear the Jambo House pool would be closed during my stay there. Is Kidani Village's pool pretty awesome? I love the Polynesian's pool and usually spend on average an hour a day there. It's hard to tell from watching YouTube videos, but Kidani's pool did look very nice albeit a lot smaller than Jambo's (I researched online and found Jambo's is 11,000 sq ft vs Kidani's 4,300 sq ft. How do the slides compare?

24 hour room service I think is still available.

What you won't find, and you should. Poolside food and beverage service.

Room service ends at midnight at most, if not all, deluxes.

If by "poolside food and beverage service" you mean that someone comes to your lounge chair, takes your order, and brings you food and beverages, Stormalong Bay at YC/BC does have that service, unless it's been discontinued since the last time I stayed there.

WL also had this as a trial. Think I heard they're still offering poolside service.

We think so. Jambo's pool was nothing special at all really. We loved Kidani's pool. If you have younger ones the splash area is amazing. Kidani didn't feel that much smaller, but it might have been because I think the layout is better. Slide is way better too from our opinion. I would say Kidani is pretty close to tied for favorite pool for my son with Polynesian. I know the Polynesian pool isn't huge either but it is a lot of fun.

Cool! I'm looking forward to seeing and experiencing it! I do not have any kids, just me and the girlfriend. But we love doing the slides and lots of swimming, so we are looking forward to seeing Animal Kingdom's pool area. I like the rockwork that the Kidani one has all around it.

I think the Poly still has this service at the leisure pool over by the Oasis Bar, too. I seem to recall seeing people getting their food or drinks delivered to their lounge area when I went last summer. Although I also thought any hotel will deliver room service to the pool areas as well. Maybe that is incorrect info though? Someone else can correct me if I am wrong about that.

I love slides myself and theirs is really good! I did forget to mention that the service at the pool bar was fantastic too - at least whenever we went. We had quite a few good afternoons and dinners there

To the original poster who started the thread and said they are staying at Yacht in the upcoming months, I hope you have a wonderful time there. However for me and my hubby we just got back yesterday from our trip and did a split-stay at Beach Club, then Grand Floridian and we ain't going back to Beach anytime soon unless it's to eat at one of their restaurants. Somewhat disappointing this time and Beach/Yacht just isn't worth our time anymore, which I am surprised to say. We loved Grand Floridian so much better and that's where we'll be in the future, since that's our home resort with the DVC, and also we visited Polynesian and I can now see why so many people love that place as well. We also have a home in that one too, so those are the two we're more likely going to be visiting in the next few years. It's just so sad that Beach Club isn't what it used to be. The only thing I can think of is that you're suckered into the place by way of Stormalong Bay which I am finding out the more I stayed at Beach, isn't all it's cracked up to be, and once you get that out of the way, you realize Beach/Yacht just isn't much of anything compared to other Disney resorts. And to the poster who said they're not fond of Stormalong Bay, thank you! It is overrated and I realized now there are some big issues with that pool and that's just one of the reasons why we're not going back there anytime soon. Just a very disappointing stay at what we thought was our "Disney home" until we went to the other hotels and saw what you're NOT GETTING AT Beach Club. Just had to give a heads up, we did enjoy our trip but there were some disappointing aspects to it.

Ouch. Not a big fan of YC -lacks the theming consistent with many other Disney resorts, IMO. Being a Florida resident, swimming is something I can do year-round so the pool isn't a huge draw for me. That said, these resorts seem to be managed and kept well, and provide very good service. I'm not sure how fair it is to compare to the GF, specifically when considering the price tag. I very much prefer the MK area resorts, but I believe most people who like YC/BC tend to value it in large part by access to IG. For those people, and considering how much less expensive it is than GF, I'd say it provides good value.

I plan on eating a lunch or two and having some drinks at the pool bar, so that is good to hear! Can't wait to go!

Boardwalk Inn would actually be Atlantic City Land or Jersey Land ;)

I will pretty much echo what others have already said that is obvious. I've not stayed at a value or modern yet, but I will say just from walking around in a couple, watching videos and reading info on here and Disney's site as well as browsing photos - the Deluxe resorts are themed better for a more immersive experience, have more expansive pool areas, offer more and overall better restaurant options and have much bigger rooms to stay in. Also a very minor detail I have noticed, if I'm not mistaken is that all of the Deluxe resorts' room entries/hallways are inside. Where as the moderate and values have rooms that have entryways/hallways that are outside.

I actually am curious and am contemplating staying at POR or POFQ for a few nights for a future DW trip. I've heard so much about it and walked the grounds a while back and want to try it and see what it's like.

I agree with everything you posted however, what you called a very minor detail sure comes in handy when it's raining heavily or when vacationing during a hurricane. Was at Beach club last year during the September hurricane and we were able to travel from one end of the Beach Club to the far end of the Yacht club high and dry. My sister was in the AOA resort in the furthest from lobby building ( forget the building name) and it was so bad they couldn't leave the room to get food or anything else.
While at the same time we were in the lobby of the BC being entertained by Disney characters and cast.
Easy access to food and craft rooms where the wife mad ceramic items. We watched the high point of the storm through vista windows and frankly it was an enjoyable couple of days. ( not having anything to lose of course helps) We met many nice people who were from south Florida during that time that checked in for safety sake to ride out the storm. We would not have been able to do that in most of the moderate hotels.
I'm not against moderates and always loved POFQ.

I have stayed value, mod and deluxe, for quick trips that are like 2 or 3 days I don't mind a value, for longer trips that I can spend more time at the resorts to swim and relax I prefer a deluxe or mod. We prefer the monorail resorts for the convenience and views.
The way we tour the parks is to be there at opening, hop on the monorail come back and swim and then come back to the parks around 5/6 and eat and do more attractions

You don't always get a good view. Here is what we had for a view at Wilderness Lodge.

Very true about bad views at deluxe hotels: I've had roof views (hot and loud as they reflect light and sound), walkway views (no privacy) and loading dock views. These three issues tend to plague most all of the deluxe resorts.
Not everyone would say that's a bad view you posted. With this one at least you had the opportunity to glimpse some of the area's wildlife sneaking through (WL has plenty of bunnies, birds and at least one deer to spot each trip we've been). Trees are also decent as sound screens.

Bigger rooms, better pools, and better TS (QS is lesser IMO). Usually a more quiet atmosphere. To me, better themes as well.
A well themed, quiet atmosphere. Absolutely, yes!

This, combined with a better room is the reason I cannot stay at the values. Deluxe resorts usually have a balcony (some exceptions), the beds are inset into the room away from the door entering from the walkway, and there is a better bathroom layout along with amenities. Keep in mind though, that these room layouts (not including DVC and suites) are really no better than most Marriott or Doubletree rooms I've stayed in.

The deluxe resorts also have far better pillows than the values. Since I don't travel with a pillow, it's the little things like this that make a difference.

Having stayed at the Polynesian not less than 15 times, I would never stay there again after staying at the BC/YC
