This is why I hope Disney goes private someday.

I agree that NRJ and FoP are excellent rides, and I don't understand where some people got the impression that the "old timers" think every IP should be banished from the parks. We simply want IP to be used correctly as it always was, until recently. I think Pandora was the best example of IP being introduced into the parks this decade.

That couldn't be further from the truth. I was just bringing attention to something that is rarely talked about. People like me don't dislike Disney, we simply don't like the current direction the parks are going.

So now I have to plan my trip around a special event as opposed to when I may actually want to visit. What a joke.

Meanwhile in Tokyo....

You clearly lack an understanding of fundamental theme park design.

This is probably my favorite post in this thread. You deserve a churro!

Do I get an award for starting this glorious thread? :hilarious:

Hey you get not one argument from me. Please believe me, I am probably the type of guest you would ban from the parks. I'm not into theme park design and further more have absolutely zero interest in ever knowing about theme park design. I think that's my point, how Epcot is supposed to be "designed" is pretty much number 101 on my list of 100 things I need for a successful disney vacation.

So here's my question, Why should I have to know about theme park design????

I'd like to thank this poster for identifying the problem. The fanbase has changed, and by no means for the better. It is sad. And to serve them, Disney will willingly give up what made it unique and great. Disney has lost it's courage, and it's cowardice to try to retain the integrity of Epcot Center and other park attractions, is showing through.

And once again we ask, Who are you to decide what is the better? who made you the head connoisseur, who decides? listen I understand when something you love changes but what I don't appreciate is this insinuation that some how you (as in the old fan) is some soooo much better, what are you more cultured? your blood line some how purer? are today's fan some type of uncultured theme park trailer trash.
:rolleyes: should we apologize for soiling holy Epcot ground??

Guests shouldn't. If you had to understand the design, construction, and history of a thing before you could use it, it would be awfully quiet on the internet and Disneyworld would be empty.

The only barriers to entry for the Disney parks are the admission price, suitable attire, and being able to attend on-site during their hours of operation which far removed from the OP's assertation that enjoyment can only be achieved by understanding all the history and intent of the venue from its inception to today's' manifestation.

You don’t. It should be subtle, almost a subconscious thing.

When it’s wrong that’s when it’s noticeable. You may not know why. But something will seem “off”.

That’s the beauty of good themed park design. You can learn about it. Or just enjoy it without knowing exactly how - or to what extent- you’re enjoying it.

Exactly. The kind of person who would say that design doesn't matter is the kind of person who doesn't care about a ride's capacity as long as its good but then complains when he/she is stuck waiting in long lines.

I personally think that Disney's design is pretty convoluted and confusing, but I have a feeling that its almost on purpose. They want people to get a little lost so that they're not getting on rides and adding to the lines. Once you figure out that most Disney parks are just lands that branch from a central mid-point land it gets a lot easier, but it takes some people a while to figure this out.

Martin can solve any conflict simply by posting a single emoji. The man is a legend.

Which suggests that the conflict itself is overblown. As I said, the same point was already made several pages ago to much less approval. The debate has become way too personal, by which I mean people are being led by their feelings (whether positive or negative) about other posters rather than the content of the posts themselves.

Ummm... you may want to postpone by a few years. Unless you just want Rat.
Lol, bite your tongue. Disney is my happy place. I'm retiring next year and the only thing preventing me from setting up camp in Golden oaks is the fact my kids are here, although I have a feeling they'd move if I ever did. Lol. Im a dvc'er so I go some times and don't even go to the parks and I'm one of those "evil" folks that loves all the Epcot festivals, go figure.

I have to agree with that. I don't know why there is such a clamber to know every detail of every attraction or the history of Disney. The only history I knew about Disney was that they made some really good animated films and movies and that the love of my life was on The Mickey Mouse Club, the late Annette. I never got the fever to know anything about Disney or theme parks until after I went to WDW. I didn't know what to expect, had no preconceived notion of what it would be like. Yet, I was blown away. I was that way for years, just marveling at how they got all that stuff to work and work so well.

Then I made the mistake of joining a online Disney discussion board. At first it was all just a group of people that loved the parks and enjoyed being a child again. Then it slowly evolved into armchair engineers and armchair imagineers that felt that they knew more about how to build a theme park then the people that were actually "successfully" working in them. Over the years it has zapped the joy out of it for me. I still like to know how things work, the mechanics mostly, but, I never tried to second guess everyone that did it for a living. We never used to know when Disney was planning something new, it was a surprise. They might tell you when they started something, but, heck I didn't know they were even building Splash Mtn. until I went there and saw the construction with a sign out front.

It turned into a place where the same people complained about nothing new happening in the parks and in the next breath complaining if anything was closed and replaced due to lack of sufficient interest by the public. That action was proclaimed as awful and any dissenting voice was treated like a whipping boy for those that felt superior in their thoughts.

I guess, fortunately for me, that I have had some physical problems that, at this time, will not allow me to visit the parks. If I were to use a scooter to get around I couldn't without incurring the wrath of the self-righteous and miraculously able to determine the physical situation of people they don't even know. Good for them. Someday they may be in need and they might remember what they said about people using them and have to stay home as well to avoid the stares and frowns. If the question is, if it bothers you that much, why do you continue to stay on the boards? To be absolutely truthful, I don't know. I guess since I am retired and my mobility is compromised I use it to fill time and attempt to keep my brain active. I occasionally follow the train wreck threads, just for the entertainment. Sometimes that draws me in to say things that I probably shouldn't have, but, I really hate to just stand idly by and see misinformation unchallenged. There is enough of that floating around in the real world and is now spreading into our fantasy lives.

"I also always admit, I don't do this deep psychological analysis to theme park placement. I can see how frozen ever after clashes with world showcase, but imo the maelstrom ride sucked big time so yeah I'd rather have an new inappropriately place fun ride than something is two days older than christ and boring." I've never heard the phrase "two days older than christ". Certainly there has to be a more appropriate way to make your point without offending those of us who believe.

Yeah, that’s not offensive. Jesus is old.

I do agree, and I have done my fair share of judging content by who posted it in this thread. @wdwmagic I think this is probably a good time to lock this one before it starts getting heated again. I've said my peace and most likely no opinions will be changed in either direction.

Anyone get the feeling that you're some how "wrong" for liking the parks now?

No. I can’t take these people seriously.
