OK, some thoughts, though I am going to hold of on many until I can see a full video that was done from a tripod..

Missed the opening, which I really wanted to see, such is life, but shows why MaxiPass might cause a lot of issues in regards to Cell Phone Networks.

The music, as mentioned earlier here, wasn't the "original" and wished it was just a cleaned up version from the 70's, edited due to the change in floats. But I expected a newer version before tonight.

Glad to see that most of the floats and performers (including costumes) are from the 70's, even if they are just recreations of the original.

Should be interesting to see how this does with the "regular guest"and that means the locals using the 3 day SoCal ticket offer. Does it drive sales at a good number. That is the key to what happens after June 18th, the current ending date announced by Disney. They could switch back to Paint the Night if they are ready to return from refurb.

Due they just switch the ending date until the start of Fantasmic!, and do a new Marketing promo featuring all the returning things opening in July (hopefully), or do they extend it until the start of the Christmas Season or the early 2018 changeover...

The more 3 day tickets get sold, and how folks respond to the Disney Surveys after entering the park (aka did the MSEP play a part in your decision to come today, etc...), the longer it will remain, And when they get to that decision, get prepared for another Marketing ploy such as selling the Lights off the floats again, like the did in the 1990's...

Should be interesting to watch. I definitely will find a weeknight in the near future with a predicted low turnout to see it in person. And find a good video tomorrow online to watch it again, and catch the start of the parade.

But glad to see it back, and I think a year or so is about the life of the parade this time around... then they can send it to DCA's Performance Corridor.and maybe do Eureka! in the day, and MSEP at night.... ;)

I'll be hitting the parks in March so I'll be seeing the parade. That said, It'll be very very interesting to see how the reception to this is.

A majority of the passholders I know don't know anything about Disneyland history, so I imagine many are gonna be really confused why this dinosaur of a parade is replacing Paint the Night.

Honestly, I'm gonna be very surprised if this is the true end of the parade. I doubt it's that expensive to run, and they could just keep it around for limited time events and ship it to different parks for the next couple years.

I just watched a video of the premiere from last night- several of the effects on the parade I don't remember, and I think i've only seen the pleasure island float 1 time...i'm glad that DL was able to bring it back to proper working order! I'm so hoping to see it 1 time before it goes away in June :) The only time I saw it was when it was a DCA in 2007 and then it was just ok...I was sad not to have it in DL...

Funny, I always think the same thing about PTN. Anyway, the parade looks just as fun as ever! Wish I could make it out to see it before they, stupidly, end it forever.

Have you actually seen Pain the Night with your own eyes in person?

MSEP is still a cute parade, but I agree with others when they say it needs to be retired, especially after receiving PtN. I'm looking forward to PtN's return.

Competitive WDW focused site is now saying the PTN to WDW is a likely possibility assuming MSEP proves to be as popular as some folks think it will...and will result in a indefinite extension a DL.

OK, still waking up, and will get to watching the video later today.

But was watching the morning news, and the local MSEP TV ad has been adjusted, now at the end it states :"ends June 18" in small print (readable to most, larger than the fine legal print size) when promoting the SoCal 3 day offer.

Still working on the waking up and my happy pills (I am in the Hospital) to make a decent reply to the last few posts, so that also will be later.

The rain held off tonight, so it's officially back.

As a WDW native, I feel like should apologize for our scraps. As usual, entire floats are missing from the parade. This just goes to show you how run down it still is. I totally understand the nostalgia apeal for older audience members, but I can't imagine what kids today think of it. I grew up with Spectromagic and thought it was a step down, so I can't even imagine what kids who are currently growing up with the state of the art Paint the Night think of this.

Link to the OC Register News Story about last night's Premiere Party, including some nice photos and a short video.

And while I am thinking about it, heading the live chat posts from the "site not to be named", I am so glad I don't deal with that every day, and why I appreciate finding this forum for the more adult and geek like topics about permits, etc....

What is Disney's definition of popular? If it is people lined to watch the parade then it will go on forever. People are conditioned to watch any parade. Disney could have a character in a car and people will watch it.

I'm sure it's measured by more than folks on the parade route. Likely will have everything to do with if it's driving revenue i.e. ticket and merchandise sales.

To me, does it make money, aka drives ticket and merchandise sales. It will remain until that drops to a certain level, and then expect the return of PTN, another marketing event to help ticket and merchandise sales....

As I mentioned, Disney is worried about two things here, first is the mentioned Economic benefits, the second is more practical, do they have another parade ready to replace MSEP (or at least Fantasmic! as a night time min entertainment option) if the plan is to bring back PTN, is it ready to go (including hiring and rehearsal of the cast), or do they need a few more weeks, in which case Disney says we have extended the ending date of the MSEP due to demand. (Translated from Disney speak - We never said what demand referred to, in this case the demand of the Entertainment Department to get a new parade ready during the busy Summer Season, not that the guests demanded it stayed)

Anyone else kinda disappointed that every available video of the parade has the audio cut out in some parts? I think it's because the audio is tagged by Apex (Walt Disney Records distributor in Japan) and the people wanna earn ad revenue, so they cut it out of the video so nothing comes up.

For folks interested in MSEP merch -

There is a really fun novelty being sold at the Plaza Inn currently, a small plastic light up figure of the Parade's famous hat wearing turtle.

$5.50..and it is designed to be cup topper.
It is a neat little figurine on it's own however, and when lit actually changes colors.

Thought I would mention it here for anyone going to the Park in the next few days who might want to get one!

:)
