Define 50% capacity

I'm sure we've all heard the speculation that when Disney opens it won't be until next year at 50% capacity (truth be told I haven't followed this closely so I apologize if this has already been discussed/debunked). What is 50% capacity? If you could describe a time of year on the crowd calendar, what would it be? I'm ready to rebook our trip for next year so I'm just wondering if 50% is going to be more or less crowded than we are used to. I am always amazed at what full capacity looks like and when they shut the gates. Half of that still seems unbearable compared to what I'm used to in September or back in the glory days of October being off season....but I'm pretty oblivious to actual numbers and what half capacity would actually look and feel like.

Well if I'm looking at just MK max capacity is about 100,000 and generally they only see close to those numbers between Christmas and NYE.
An average day sees about 56,000 at MK.
To ME 50% capacity should not be 50,000 but should be half of what the daily average is.
So if daily average at MK is 56,000 then I'd say to reopen at half cap the number of guests should be 28,000.
I don't think you can compare that to any day of the year now a days.
I think you could have compared it to a slow time back say 10-12 years ago like maybe the first half of December in 2007 lol.

So it could be a really light crowd day?

30,000 a day with the kind of restrictions on crowd and gathering points we’ve been kicking around will be “interesting”

Like I said I don't feel like its easily comparable to present day crowds.
There really isn't a "light crowd" day anymore but rather more crowded or less crowded but still crowded lol.
And again 28,000 is only what my vision of 50% "should" be.
I'm sure Disney doesn't see it that way and there will be more people than that but less than average.

I was in the MK once when a CM told me there were around 30K in the park. It was a very pleasant day, but not empty by any means. They said they were expecting 60K the next day. We were there then as well and dang that was crowded.

We still don’t know what a sold out Halloween/Christmas party number would be or do we?
They don't announce the number. But my own personal guess is around 30K. It's really hard to guess based on that though since those crowds behave so differently (mostly congregating on Main Street for the shows). Disperse that many around the park and it's pretty pleasant, although I think social distancing would still be very hard, especially if you mostly removed the attraction lines.

Good to know. I'm sure I could go find some website that shows the crowds for each day and look up a recent trip....all I have to relate to crowds is how hard it is for us to get down main Street when we arrive and if there's more than a 15-20 minute wait for the little mermaid ride lol. I follow crowd calendars and pay attention to ways going on at and around Disney world but I've never paid much attention to actual numbers so you've helped!!! Thanks

I’d say at least...and they’ve undoubtedly loosened Those “restrictions” over the years.

I’ll say when they had e-ride nights it was capped at 11,000...and it was $12-18 dollars a ticket

Yeah...so who really are the fools?
