DCL makes bid for second private destination

Joe points out that Disney will be directly involved in conservation efforts to preserve and protect the environment and will be working with local artists to create a unique destination that is rooted in Bahamian culture and filled with Disney magic.

With Rhode in charge you know DCL is going to be carefully handling environmental impact. Other signs - the release also mentioned developing only 20% of the property, turning 100+ acres over to the Government for a reserve. They are also going to use a trestle pier, like old school beach piers using posts rather than a solid one. Also this pier will not require a channel to be dredged for the ships to dock, minimizing the impact on the shoreline.

This was the highlight of the presentation for me. Also one of the few surprises (although it should have been obvious) that Joe was onboard.

This gives a great look at the usage of the land and the large public park area.

Just noticed that Google Earth has updated with scans from this past May.

You can see them working on the future pier area in the scans, and it offers a better look of the overall area. Previously, it was covered by clouds.

If anyone takes a Carnival or Princess cruise to Princess Cays, which is just to the northwest on the same island, you can actually see the construction from your ship. Not really a whole lot to see at the moment, but it's still neat knowing what it is.
