DCL Fantasy On Board Activites

Ok, so I've gathered that I can't really sign up for On Board activities until I arrive on the ship, and that my Navigator (newsletter) will inform me of what is available (not sure if THAT is correct, but it's what I've gathered)...

Anyhow, my question is...

I'm going on the W. Caribbean Itenerary (forget the letter, B I think) on the Fantasy departing August 3.

I think I've pretty much nailed down which offshore excursions I think will work for me and the kid (8 years, nearly 9 DD). It's a first Cruise (ever, not just Disney) for both of us.

What onboard activities would you all recommend for both of us?

Also, my kid is rather sociable among children her own age (rather shy around adults though), so I know she's going to enjoy the kids only club there, so...when she's off by herself having fun...

Which classes / activites are more oriented to adults? Which would you recommend?

I am not the lounge by the pool type, and I really don't want to spend the day holed up in the cabin watching TV or wandering the decks.

So, DCL experts! Your advice!?

Hey! Fantasy is an awesome ship, there is so much to do! The movie theater is awesome and plays first run movies!! I spent a good chunk of my rainy day there!! The midship detective agency is soooo much fun and such a great way to learn the ship. I definitely recommend taking advantage of it. There are 3 different mysteries to solve so you can continue playing!! There is also tons of activities during the day for so many age groups! The wine tasting seminar is awesome, and I loved the culinary lessons! There are also fun games that you can either be involved in or watch, the newlywed game is always a good time. They also have tons of trivia contests!
...and the shows!! Absolutely the best at sea no other cruise can compare!!!

Encouraging...what was the wine tasting like? And, can you tell me more about how the trivia works (I'm a trivia fiend).

It's pretty casual. There is a wine expert that explains the wines to you. He explains what to look for as far as techniques and taste. To be honest, I was just there for the drinking. I think we had 5 different wines and they explained what wine goes with what food! At the end, they explained how champagne and wine is manufactured. They also gave everybody a pin as a souvenir.

The trivia is fun. They do like pop culture one night, 80s another night and so on. They split the room into two teams and you play against each other. Hard to explain but a lot of fun.

Sounds like it!

Are there any cooking classes? I'm a bit of a foodie...

There are some really fun activities that you'll both enjoy. Most don't need any sign ups.

The Navigator is broken down into a section for adult only activities, children activities and family activities. We like to sit down with a highlighter every night and mark what we don't want to miss. Then we can coordinate our schedules! :)

Also, not all the tastings & mixology classes get noted in the Navigator. Go by Guest Services on embarkation day to get the full scoop and get scheduled. There's many different kinds of tastings: wine, cognac, whiskey, martini, tequilla, rum, beer, champagne, etc. Mixology is fun, too.

Definitely keep an eye on the adult section of the Navigator for kid-free offerings. There's lots of trivia to keep your brain thoroughly picked. Even if you aren't artsy or overly creative give the animation classes a try. They break down the characters step-by-step so anyone can do it.

I've heard Jack Jack's Diaper Dash can be tremendous fun to watch even if you don't have a baby racing. Watch for that on the Navigator for a chuckle or two.

Trust me, you'll have plenty to keep you engaged with and without your daughter. Even if you think something doesn't sound so promising, go and see. You definitely do NOT have to be a lounge at the pool type to have a killer time. That's the beauty of the cruise, there's something for everyone which spreads people out across the ship so you don't feel crowded. ;)

The Fantasy had some great activities. I LOVED the trivia (especially the Disney ones). I also enjoyed the animation classes. I found there was always something going on that I wanted to do

Sign me up for the animation classes! I discovered the Art of Animation at the Studios on my last trip and learned to draw Goofy. Was sorry I didn't have time to do more.
