David Koenig on the (near-ish) future of Disneyland park

All the rumors so far have Roger Rabbit surviving any sort of Fantasyland expansion. The ride is still popular and Disney seems to recognize that it would be a major loss to the park.

The Tower was still very popular.

And this article discusses the possibility that they will remove Toad's, which continues to be a fan favorite, and popular.

I don't think the rumor about Toad is credible. ToT is an interesting example, but I suspect that it's popularity ended up hurting it in a way that doesn't impact Roger Rabbit. Disney was looking for a popular attraction that could be converted with minimal investment to promote Marvel, and tower met that criteria.

Losing Toad can only be for a small redo or a meet and greet. I can't imagine it being part of a bigger fantasyland redo since it's attached to Alice and Pan.

On the other hand, you have about 9 acres north of there that I could see getting the bulldozer. A total redo of the north side with a dueling dumbos to boot.

Even more if you reach over towards Tomorrowland a bit. Of course that would involve making some changes to the Monorail and Autopia.

That would be my personal preference, to go into the Motor Boat Cruise area (and leave Toontown alone). But yes, they would have to do something with the Monorail track in particular. For some reason, I don't think the Autopia is as big a problem to deal with.

I would absolutely be livid if Disney axed Mr. Toad for a meet and greet facility. That what the Fantasy Faire was for.
Overall, I am not impressed with this overall speculation of the future of DLR.

As recently as a few years ago in the ramp up to the 60th, Toad was slated to get some TLC of the Alice kind. The idea was to make it a modernized version of a classic black light dark ride using projection mapping to add some life to the 2D art. Then budgets were cut.

I hope it gets funded again as this was always the most intriguing concept of the Fantasyland 60th plans to me. An animated version of Toad ala Alice's effects in the Golden Afternoon would be fantastic.

As to the rumors on this thread, other than Frozen - they don't sound like what I've heard discussed with Fantasyland expanding and evicting Toontown. From an operational perspective, cutting out the maintenance/staffing of Toad would be the only advantage as the space wouldn't be suited for another attraction other than a meet and greet and I don't think anyone would want to put a "new" item in that space as it's in the fireworks fall out zone and would have limited availability each night. That's a big driver of why they would like to get Toontown repurposed.

All I have heard so far is
  • Toon Town gets evicted and only roger rabbit is safe
  • Frozen is expected to take over the rest of TT
  • Tomorrowland will evict Star-Wars after SWL opens
  • Space Mountain will return in 2019/2020
  • Magic Eye doesn't have a set replacement
  • No planned replacement is in the works for Toad's
  • No planned replacement for StarTours but it will leave in 2019/2020
  • Alice won't leave
DCA on the other hand...
  • Marvel Land will break ground later this year
  • Marvel to open in 2019/2020/2021
  • Marvel will have an E-Ticket (GOTG)
  • Disney Jr Dance Party
  • Backlot Will Be replaced/overhauled
  • Marvel Will go behind GOTG or Backlot
Honestly, Mr.Toad is going nowhere. Plus for another rumor that mice chat got wrong was Cars Land at DCA, You find your Disney news here first folks.

Does Roger survive the eviction?
