Star Wars (1977) showed us everything that can be done with the force! How dare Empire Strikes Back make up new powers?

That’s how dumb you sound. If the first six movies had shown us everything that could be done, then why did no one complain about Kylo stopping a laser bolt? Because it was an awesome moment? So was Luke’s sacrifice. Get over it.
no it didnt. it was luke in the begining stages of understanding the force. since then we know everything a jedi can and cant do. and yoda never astro projected himself to defeat the empeor. and i did complain about kylo being able do that. we saw vader could deflect laser blasts and all of a sudden this punk can stop one in the air?? it was one of the first of many RED FLAGS that went up for me when i saw the force awakens in the theater during the opening scene. the first red flag was the OPENING CRAWL

So Luke, 30 years on from RotJ, and surrounded by the ancient texts of the Jedi, is never allowed to grow and learn more force powers in that entire time because he never saw it in action?

Do you believe that dinosaurs don’t exist because you never saw one in real life or something?

but he didnt grow and learn more. the ability to force project is pointless and serves no purpose. luke could have gone to the salt planet in person and sacrifice himself still and it would hold more weight because he is actually there. the fact he dies from exhaustion when he did not really do anything when his projection was on crait is a cop out and lazy writing. luke did not grow by having this skill therefore the skill is pointless and out of canon with what the known powers of a jedi are, even yoda. if yoda could do that trick he would have done it in the prequels. it is just rian johnson is a crappy writer.

I don't really care about the geeky stuff about what the force can/can't do, etc.

All I know is that Rian Johnson turned Luke into an anti-social grouch that nobody liked, scripted in nonsensical sub-plots, and wrote stupid jokes.

Other than that, TLJ was pretty good. I mean, really, there was some serious potential with that movie. But he spoiled it with the lame stuff.

Imagine saying Disney is losing millions of dollars a day because of one land based off a movie no one liked. As if people are only buying tickets just to go see SW:GE. Can't relate.
Forget if it’s the land or not causing it... the reality is the park crowds and hence revenues are going to be way down. That’s gonna cause a major blow up in TDA.

Disneyland has let itself become totally engrossed and dominated by local APs for the last decade, mainly at the expense of the tourist experience. They then assumed tourists would come running back this summer because... Star Wars!

Turns out fatigue with an overcrowded and overpriced resort won out over excitement for a half-finished Galaxy's Edge.

Maybe TDA will learn the correct lesson from this and take long-term steps to bring balance back to the parks. But, I'm not betting on it.

I think this is definitely a big part of it. The role Galaxy's Edge really plays in this whole catastrophe is being the catalyzing event. This is really the first time they've taken steps to seriously curtail AP access to something new - just for some recent examples, I was able to try both Mission Breakout and Pixar Pier during their opening weekends on a SoCal pass; now, not even a Deluxe pass would get me in at a time it normally would.

Disneyland and the DLR in general are truly a locals park in comparison to WDW, and it makes complete sense considering the large population that surrounds it (and gets even bigger when you throw in the rest of California and close regions like Nevada/Arizona). Really I should be more shocked that Disney truly believed the tourist market was there for Disneyland, because they've spent so much of the past 10 years killing it with rising costs that made buying an AP a better financial choice for many locals. Anecdotal evidence told me that wasn't going to be the case; hell, just look at how light the crowds have been the last few 4th of Julys.

I've done both the AP and tourist thing in the last few years and I never felt like the experience was any better or worse in either role.

You're a lapsed AP who has already been to the parks a ton and knows your way around.

You're not the same as someone from Denver who shows up with their excited kids for a vacation they've planned for months and paid through the nose for, with limited time to experience the parks, little or no first-hand knowledge, and no expectations of returning anytime soon once the trip is over.

Those types of people have a high likelihood of having a frustrating and crowded experience that will not meet hopes and expectations, and will not inspire a return visit or positive word-of-mouth back home.

When you say bring balance back to the parks, do you mean Darth Vader?

I agree, it was fun to watch the prequels (although they were BAD). To groan at the horribly stiff "romantic" parts. To roll your eyes at Jar Jar Binks, etc. Fun to hate watch. But then fast forward many years and I'm watching the Phantom Menace with my daughter (who was 7 at the time) and she is laughing at everything Jar Jar says/does, and I realize George didn't make that movie for the original trilogy fans. He made it for kids.
Yup
