Damage Control PR Spin for Star Wars Begins

Wholly irrelevant story arcs that contribute nothing to the larger film or saga (Finn & the Asian girl whose name I can't remember), really stilted and unnatural pacing of humor throughout the movie (your mom joke in the first few seconds of the film, Luke dusting his shoulder off during the last scene etc.), established characters acting out of character (Luke, Yoda), ridiculous/illogical moments (Leia flying through space, the entire chase sequence) saga mysteries being revealed to be absolutely nothing/wasted (Snoke dead, Rey's parents are nobodies).

Add all that on top of previously present issues that the sequel trilogy has like poor lead characters and generally not really having a reason for existing.
Luke and Yoda were done perfectly fine and better than any nerd here would’ve done. We still have another movie to answer questions about Snoke and Rey’s Disney Familia. The slow chase through space was a good and unique idea that worked well.

I agree with a lot of the rest, but none of it is atrocious like most of the prequels.

I really don't wanna derail this thread into a TLJ review thread so this is the last post I'm gonna make on this but just have to say that Yoda was out of character because he was the one in Empire who kept insisting that Luke was told old to train as a Jedi but then as soon as Mary Sue comes into the picture in TLJ he's just like "It's fine she knows everything"

It's just not possible she was born with the strongest powers, right?

I don’t think people understand that this isn’t what happened. Luke’s greatest weakness was he didn’t believe the power of the force. Rey, on the other hand, accepted it pretty easily. That’s why she doesn’t need as much training.

I'm fine with that explanation. There could be plenty of others.

I think sometimes the people with no imagination are the ones who have trouble with these things. Not everything needs to be spelled out. Movies are not perfect - how many deleted scenes were there, etc.

Everyone’s going to have an opinion now anyway on the internet, but I also think it’s fair.”

She thinks it’s fair for everyone to have an opinion on the Internet - in general - not because of anything she said was “wrong” with that film.

Not sure who you're talking to. I've never said anything about The Last Jedi being "wrong". I've accurately reported that Disney is pushing to subtly acknowledge The Last Jedi was not well received and that the next film will be nothing like it.

Well. Today I learned that the new Star Wars films are nothing but a liberal plot to overthrow masculine normativity. Who knew.:rolleyes::rolleyes: I had to check the URL a couple times to make sure I hadn't stumbled onto Breitbart.

I'm the one who started this thread, and outside of one possible troll post (I can't remember if it was in this thread or not, and I wasn't sure if it was satire or not), there's not been one mention of a "liberal plot", "masculine normativity", or conservative websites until you just posted them. I'd appreciate it if you would stay on topic instead of trying to derail the thread.

Well on top of this, the Luke of the OT is kind of a selfish prick who always seems to think he knows best and is repeatedly put in his place for it. It makes perfect sense that he’d try to train new Jedis, the first batch would go horribly wrong, and he’d respond with “yeah, actually the Jedi are awful and we shouldn’t have them anymore”. And this isn’t to say that Luke doesn’t have some good ideas by this point! His whole “equal balance in the force” is really good, he just doesn’t see Rey as the natural balance to Kylo until the end.

Yoda also played right into his characterization from the OT, of being extremely coy about his ultimate lesson for Luke. Really, for all my problems with TLJ (I think it is a good but flawed movie), the Luke/Rey/Yoda stuff is far and away the best stuff in it.

Disney's new official response to incredibly low crowds is featured in this article:

"We are incredibly focused on delivering a great guest experience for the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. This land has added 20% more capacity to Disneyland Park, and together with all of our new offerings, advanced planning and innovative technology, has resulted in incredible feedback and satisfaction from our guests."

So it is July 3rd, midday, and there are exactly two rides with more than an hour wait, neither of them being Smuggler's Run. This is actually worse than I thought the situation could get, and I thought this could fail to do what Disney was hoping on a pretty grand scale (in DLR, WDW is a different situation I can discuss later). But this is worse than what I envisioned as possible. I can say with confidence that there are people who will be fired within the company at high levels. There is a new, billion dollar expansion, and they are losing a million dollars + each day versus what they made last summer in ticket sales. I would not be surprised at this point if you start seeing some finger pointing make it out into the public soon... like, I'm kind of smiling here just thinking how to describe the situation because it's just hard to say how bad this is for the people involved in the marketing, design, implementation, etc, of SW:GE. This is worse than what they would have said is worst case scenario four months ago.

What's your take on the merchandising situation, with reports that certain things...i.e. kyber crystals and lightsaber parts were supposedly selling out? All B.S.? Collectors or ebay resellers going nuts? Total incompetency by TDA management in ordering?

Honestly, I don't know because I don't know about their supplier for the crystals. What I do know is that they're just little pieces of plastic with a code that relays to the light saber which LEDs to light up. There's zero reason at all they should be in any outage. But they're keeping that close to the vest... maybe one of the other insiders knows somebody at the warehouse who can look and see if there's a couple thousand boxes of "rare" crystals sitting there.

Not sure who you're talking to.

That's easy to check when you look at which post was quoted.

I can say with confidence that there are people who will be fired within the company at high levels.

Please come back and confirm that when it happens.

That's messed up.
