DAK Character Changes

Wow, when I read the original post I thought it was a joke, but then I slowly realized it wasn't. Such drastic cuts and yet Disney has had record profits recently...

So let me figure out something here.

When times are tough and Disney is losing money, they cut entertainment.

When things are better and they're making record profits, they still cut entertainment.

So when do we start getting stuff? :lookaroun

It's the same logic that they use with dining. When a resort restaurant isn't booking well or not popular, they raise prices, because they have to catch the loss. When a restaurant is booked solid, they raise the prices, because if its that popular it's too cheap. It's just all about how they can justify charging more for anything.

The same goes with entertainment. If things are looking really great on a spreadsheet, they need to figure out how cut more corners in anticipation of a hardtime. When the hardtime is here...they will still cut more corners...

I have no problem with these characters going away. They've been in AK for years. I do have a problem with them not being replaced with other characters. Even though the "UP" characters are coming to AK, they won't make up for the ones the park will lose.

With the exception of Thumper and Miss Bunny when was the last time AK got a new character or different character added to the park? I really can't think of any.

I've heard rumors they wanted to retire Lilo and bring Angel, but now I wonder if the rumors about Angel coming to AK will come to fruition. Maybe they could put her in Tonorrowland???

Lilo and Stitch or even Angel make more sense there, but I hope it's not another cost cutting measure after their record quarter profits.

Replacing the Einsteins with Jake was good in that a new character is introduced, but also saved HS 50% on that one meet area.

It is disapointing though that's there nowhere you can see Lilo, Jiminy Cricket, Terk, etc. anymore. Just like you said, if they were replacing them with new characters such as Tarzan and Jane, Flik and Atta, or any new character that would be great...however they aren't. All of these cuts and the welcome show, I guess I'll make sure to hit them all next week when I'm down there.

How long has Jiminy been there? Given the environmentality theme, that's the only one I have a problem with. If they were adding someone else in of course.

AK seems to be on death spiral, you aren't going to get people to visit if they keep cutting. And Avatar isn't gonna do it either...what a mess

Flik is still there.

I couldn't tell you exactly on Jiminy but it's been several years.

I am generally on board with whatever Disney decides to do, but I'm upset with this news. I LOVE getting to the park early and watching the Adventure Begins show. So what are we going to be doing now, standing in a huge lump standing behind a rope waiting for them to release us? Sounds pretty boring to me. Also, I've never had the chance to meet Jiminy, Pocohantas, Terk, or Lilo because we never go over towards RPW, didn't know they were there, if I did know I would have went for a photo. As others have said, I think they need to have something back there to draw a crowd. I still don't see the connection between having a new character lunch and removing the morning show and m&g's. :lookaroun

Well, Terk and Lilo aren't (weren't?) in RPW, so you didn't miss them there! Lilo greeted with Stitch next to that DVC kiosk in front of Island Mercantile. Terk was on the pathway up to where Baloo and King Louie were.

I know it's a bit outdated but I would have loved if instead of just terk they had tarzan and jane with her that would be an amazing meet and greet.

I have to say that although Stitch is unlike by many, he is one of my favourite characters and one of the funniest characters to me him and Lilo have fun and take a good amount of time with each family for them. One time he stole my hat from me and refused to give me it bad and then this year he took minnie ears from two people in my family and put them on his ears.

I am gutted they are getting rid of them both because I do enjoy meeting them especially Lilo because she is never out.

I love Finding Nemo the musical but I'm still a little bitter about them closing Tarzan Rocks...

I just enjoyed when Tarzan came out because then I could tell the person next to me that I also look like that with my shirt off.

This makes me so sad. Animal Kingdom has been our favorite place to find characters because it seems more low-key than any of the other parks. In fact I always wished for more characters at AK... Kenai and Koda (whom I've only ever seen at Disneyland), Tarzan, and Dug to name a few. It's upsetting to find out that there will be fewer rather than more.

On the other hand, our main motivation for going out to Planet Watch was usually Pocahontas and Jiminy... fewer reasons to make the trip out to Planet Watch.

Well, if you want to close something, it doesn't hurt to be able to show a downward attendance trend. No inside info, just pondering.

I reiterate... You'll still be able to meet Pocahontas in Camp Minnie-Mickey.

Anyway, I hope everyone is writing letters to WDW to stop these cutbacks.
