DAK Character Changes

This is not welcome news at all. While I know that Lilo & Stitch are not everyone's favorites, they are always a welcome find for our family.

I am not happy about the lose of Jiminy and Pochantas at all. Both of them deserve to be at AK and should always be available there.

And why are all of the welcome shows going away?!?! They are a fun way to start the day.

We won't be able to get back over to WDW until sometime in December at the earliest and we want to take the little one to AK next. This is so s__________g.

We're not losing Pocahontas completely. She's only leaving Rafiki's Planet Watch.

She will continue to appear regularly in Camp Minnie-Mickey, so eliminating her at one of her two DAK locations isn't too bad.

As a side note, I think they should remove Goofy from the Dinoland meet-and-greet spot, since he already appears in Camp Minnie-Mickey and have Pluto appear at that location alone. That would've been a better cut to make, IMO.

I am curious as to why the Welcome shows are going away. First Epcot, now AK? And I dont think it would take much to get rid of HS's. Is it really that much of an expense?

Other news-

Mickey's Jammin Jungle Parade will now start and end at the gate near Pizzafari.

I've also heard rumors that the "UP" characters may finally be coming to AK.

Losing Jiminy Cricket from Animal Kingdom seems like a pretty dumb move. It's the only place to regularly meet him and he represents conservation for the park. This is also the only location in the four parks to meet Lilo. Yes, they are supposed to be adding a version of the UP experience that they added at California Adventure. They play tested it a couple months back.

I've heard rumors they wanted to retire Lilo and bring Angel, but now I wonder if the rumors about Angel coming to AK will come to fruition. Maybe they could put here in Tonorrowland???

It really seems that character meet and greets should be as plentiful as possible at the Animal Kingdom. Any oddball animal character should be available in that park. They have designated spots for them that are relatively out of the way. Again, this seems like a money grab with Disney encouraging the character meals as an approach to meet characters.

While losing those meet and greets is somewhat sad, hearing that the opening show is ending is completely heart breaking. Those shows are the PERFECT way to start a Disney day. I'm a grown adult and I always get so excited and antsy during opening shows! Are they going to be replacing it with something else or simply dropping a rope? I went to DL about a year and a half ago and just walking in after a rope drop was not nearly as exciting.

Also, in October 2009, I met Jiminy Cricket and Pinocchio in the front of Magic Kingdom. Is that not a normal meet and greet?

Just based on what I've read posted online, it seems that Disney has a tough time drawing people to the Planet Watch section of the park. Eliminating entertainment (especially a unique character) seems like the wrong way to go to fix this.

Yeah this is a good point. If anything they should be putting more characters back there. Another possible explanation for this is the possibility that something is actually coming to that area. Now the rumor has World of Avatar heading to the plot south of Camp Minnie Mickey, so it's probably not that. However there have been rumors about Pandas as well.

Of course as I said previously, this is probably just budget cuts and we shouldn't look too far into it.

This is ridiculous! Animal Kingdom is already losing one of its few entertainment options, The Tropicals, and now they are losing several meet and greets! I'm glad I was able to meet Terk and Jiminy Cricket during this past summer, or else I would have never met them. And "The Adventure Begins" welcome show is something that I really cherish; it always gets me "pumped up" in the morning. Of course, why should we be able to meet unique characters for free within the park when can pay to meet common characters at character dining locations? :brick:

Not impressed... loved 'The Adventure Begins' opening on my first visit to Animal Kingdom! I thought the opening shows was something that set Disney apart from other theme parks. :(

I usually am not one to complain about Disney, but I'm not happy with this news..

Since the Planet Watch is the only place to meet Jiminy (besides the holiday parties), I do not like that he is leaving. Terk is a rare character, too. So I wish they would keep them.

Wonder why they are taking them out. I know the character lunch is opening, but closing M & G's? Hmm...

Really bummed. One of our best meet and greats was with Jiminy at RPW. What a great time. This really stinks

it's simple
1. cut back on meet and greets.
2. throw in cheap excuse to add character lunch.
3. ?????
4. Profit!

Your missing #3 is: "Raise prices so your 'recession busting deals' appear to be great discounts that actually just allow guests to pay the same prices as they paid a few years ago. Perceived value = increased profit."
