Daily Beast - "Workers Reveal Disney Is Covering Up Its COVID Cases"

Not only is this clearly gossip and speculation but I also find it appalling that they’d use the picture of a random CM with a headline stating that workers are saying this. I feel bad for the person in the picture because now he’s tagged to an article almost completely unrelated to him. I love how any outlet can release a “report” and people give it any credibility.

The news here is that (verified) CMs are claiming that Disney is withholding information from them re: co-workers who are out due to getting/being exposed to coronavirus. The Daily Beast isn’t saying that Disney covered anything up, its’ saying that CMs are saying it. The “anonymous” sources are not anonymous to the reporters. The reporters know who these people are and has verified that they are, in fact, CMs.

I agree with what you said. It feels like many on here and the other Disney board don't want to hear bad things about Disney

The news here is that the author was equating Calfornia Disney with Florida Disney.

I'm a little leery of CMs (or spouses) who are texting, "Disney doesn't want to test because it would show just how many of u r getting sick & they'd have to close - which is what we're trying to achieve." In my opinion, there are just not enough verifiable facts in that article to lend it credibility, especially when the people in question have an expressly stated agenda of forcing Disney to close.

To me, even THAT would be news: “CMs (and spouses) want to see Disneyland close.” The screenshots of the text messages support the claim that CMs are, in fact, saying this.

It’s news because: CMs (and/or their spouses) don’t feel safe going back to work and reopening DL, or CMs are lying (they actually do feel safe) in order to make Disney look bad. Either of these are indicative of trouble at the company- specifically internal PR and morale.

Has anyone see ANY reports of cases among Disney parks guests or CMs? I remember the report of one T-Rex worker who was positive (or rumored to be positive), but other than that? Seems strange, especially when colleges and universities are finding lots of cases and all cases have to be reported to health officials.

If it is true that CMs are contracting the virus (whether at work or elsewhere) and then coming to work (exposing other CMs) but CMs are not being notified of this exposure (or even potential exposure), that’s bad.

I’ve seen this same site post lots of fake news about gaming...and while that isn’t the same as theme parks. It does call their creditability into question. Not sure if I buy this, but it doesn’t sound unresonable.

Where did they do that? Only mention of Orlando I remember was saying that the NBA bubble was given more resources?

In the begining they started out as a story about Disney east and West Coast. The picture of a CM is WDW, they remaining 99% of the article is Disneyland only. Piggyback assumption.

Hmm. Seemed to me they were just contrasting the opening of parks on either coasts: the highly-publicized one on the East Coast, and the less-publicized one at DL?

Any facts whatsoever to back this assertion up? Nearly everyone??

I said this in the politics thread but maybe someone here can guide me:

I’m not sure I trust that article, yet.

I am curious if anyone in Florida has an answer for me. In my province, if they find an outbreak and tie it to a business, the public is notified. Would Disney even have any way of knowing if a Cast Member was tested and had it, until after the CM calls in sick and tells them?

Wouldn’t the health officials already have that information by that point and be tracking/tracing? Could Disney even cover that up?

From someone I know who works at Universal and Disney, both had multiple CM and TM test positive without revealing it to the population due to florida's reporting law, employers don't need to make it public.

I mean. Here technically employers may disclose if they feel they should, but aren’t forced to. But if public health determines there was a significant risk of exposure to the public, then they will identify the business to the public and the dates the exposure risk took place on.

That’s what they want you to think.
