D23 winding down?

The Anaheim Convention Center is sooo big that there were legitimate discussions/worries that Anaheim would steal San Diego ComicCon. And it is DIRECTLY across the street from the Disneyland Resort. Plus, the archival stuff comes from California and the celebrities are already in town.

If they can move the Main Street Electrical Parade across the country I am sure they can make arrangements to make things happen....
If this were held in Orlando it would be EPIC.....

Celebrities don't always like traveling to different spots for events, especially when the event could easily be held in California. The majority of Disney execs are in California. It doesn't make sense to move everything to Florida when they can stay home. Plus, like others have already pointed out, the Anaheim Convention Center is huge and the DLR is right there. Ca-ching. People are going to go to the Expo, spend money there, then, since it's so close, they're going to say, what the heck? Might as well go to Disneyland and spend money there, too. It's a win-win for Disney.

For you maybe, because you get to go! :p

Seriously though, this is the best possible setup for a D23 Expo: there is a huge convention center that is literally contiguous with Disney property. It is right across town from the Studio, the Disney Archives, Imagineering, etc. The celebrities all pretty much live in the LA area, so it's easier to get them to show up. Sure, they could do it in Orlando, but it wouldn't be all in the same place, they wouldn't send as much stuff, not as many celebrities would show up, it would be harder to make last-minute changes... and probably other problems that I'm not thinking of.

Absolutely to your first line! ;)

I just think that if D23 were to switch up the locations from west to east every other year that it would be good for the fans..... celeberties are being paid and let us be honest there are a lot of folks that visit the east coast so it could be a huge thing

On the Disney Store online, you can now get a D23 membership for free. It has less than the gold and silver memberships, but still has a few perks.

The celebrities that you actually want to meet have enough money that they don't have to do anything they don't want to do. It's just easier for them to walk out the front door and have the limo that Disney sends drive them across town. The ones that can be paid to show up... you probably don't care to meet. There is a rumor that Tom Hanks will be at the studio presentation this year because of Saving Mr. Banks; he's basically King of Hollywood... you can't just pay him to show up somewhere.

Right now, I think the Expo is still in its infancy where it may not last. If it becomes a tradition that will no doubt be run every couple years, I think they'll eventually try it in Florida. Eventually.

Bit of an off topic vent but... signed up for the free D23 membership. Went to register and the password I use for all of my bank, credit card accounts and Disney accounts was not considered strong enough for them. Huh? Funny the Disney account that stores my credit card information uses a password they don't consider secure enough for a fan site. If I can't remember it I can't use it so I just passed on the whole thing. I guess if I feel a need to try again I will just post my login info on my facebook page so I can find it when I need it.

I agree.. the location should at least alternate every year

They just don't have the facilities in Orlando. I'd love for it to happen, but where do they have 1.6 million square feet in one building in or near WDW?

I fully understand not doing a the D23 Expo in Orlando. Makes no sense.

That said, could they do a smaller scale mini-expo at WDW in alternating years? Like in 2014 do an Orlando Expo that is smaller in scope but has some of the same elements? Maybe even doing it in the off-season as a draw to the parks (like in, say, February)?

I don't think this is even being considered, but I think it's plausible.
