I recently picked up a copy of the winter issue at a bookstore and found this magazine a fun read....I already get Celebrations magazine but this had a bit different spin. I was wondering if someone else here has recieved it this year and is happy with their investment in D23? Forgive if already mentioned but could not find any threads on a search on this subject...THANKS! Saw you only get the mag's with a GOLD membership but not sure if this is always available at major bookstores or if it is just a teaser for disney geeks such as myself to join.....:lookaroun

I believe it's exclusively available at Barnes & Noble in the U.S.

Not having access to B&N, I subscribe. I agree, it is a different magazine from Celebrations or Tales from the Laughing Place, both of which I also have subscriptions for.

If you like the magazine and live in the U.S., I believe it's slightly cheaper to subscribe and get the membership than to get a Silver membership and buy each edition. They don't charge for shipping within the U.S.

For those of us outside the U.S., it's much more expensive to subscribe because they do charge DisneyShopping rates for shipping, which are ridiculously high. They did cut shipping to Canada in half shortly after the first membership drive, but it's still high. Overseas shipping is prohibitive.

Yep it was Barnes and Noble...and nice large size that comes in a cellowrap...Winter Edition 2009 that has Princess and Frog on cover...the difference from Celebrations being is more a multimedi publication the coming from Disney itself has past current and future bits only Disney can provide...I had fun seeing some plans for HongKong and nice photos and stories about Walt and crew too....cartoons on back page are neat. Nice graphics too...:animwink:

Think it was $15.95...and I did notice on DisneyStore you could only purchase back issues with a membership...so that kind of has me leaning towards going for it...I have some Disneydollars I may not use up next trip and they now may have found a home....:king:

I actually becaome a member last month. When D23 was 1st rolled out I could not justifiy 74.99 a yr for the membership, but when they dropped the price to 64.99 I went ahead and joined.

I can say I am pleased with it so far. The magazine with the Princess & the Frog on it is my 1st and actually what caught my attention was the recipes that they had in there, so I actually tried the 1 for the Prime rib:slurp:.

I also enjoyed the poster size litho graph. Since my anniversary is next month I told my hubby all I want is it have that framed & hung in our den.

Oh TINKWINGS, the mag is 15.95 so you think you get 4 a yr that comes to 63.80 and w/ the tax that was added on to my 64.99 my order came to 68.24. .

So yes it is worth it.

Think for yourselfer
I am a D23 1st day charter member. I know, I am a sucker. But I have to say, to me, it has been more then worth the investment. I love the magazines, there are beautiful and informative, and fun. The little gifts that come with each magazine are also very cool. Not to mention the fun little suprises like my 1st day charter pin.

All in all, I think it is definitely worth it for the big disney fan.

EE,

You of all ppl to not invest I am just going to say "GASP"

As long as I have been a follower I would think you would have joined the D23 publication team.

:lookaroun:lol:

No, quite the opposite. While I absolutely adore the concept of the club and it's events, the execution and price of the whole package puts me off. I do hope to join in the future, however, of prices and personal value continues to get better. Which it appears to be doing. :)

Click the link in my sig (D64) for some opinion on the subject.

My biggest problem with D23 was that it came across as arrogant (as it almost degreed itself that it was the 'premier' fan magazine; (my thinking was that the magazine should have come out and been accomplimated, by its readers, as the ultimate (not self professed).

Goodness I probably recieved an offer last year and did not pay attention until I held one in my own wings .....:animwink: Glad to hear you like it....

I just received my 2nd mag. in the mail yesterday. "celebration of 70 yrs". It also came with the insert news letter of production of paper annoucements.

I have not had a chance to read in detail everything. But there is alot of reading material.

One thing that has come to my attention is the D23 1st Anniversary event in WDW for 140.00 and in DL 65.00 I guess with this membership you continue to pay into it.

They've actually just started to include them in the parks. Odd, seeing that D23 is heavy on parks.

Which I like.

I had a D23 membership and received the first few editions before I let it lapse. And I'm not really missing it at all. And if now I can buy them at B&N.....

Gee, I wonder if I can download them to a Kindle? :drevil:

Well that was part of my joining decision...only members can purchase the past issues....or pay much more on ebay....but going forward? As long as Barnes and Noble has it I have control of the issue not getting mauled in the mail....and of course should they stop providing them there I could always join back up again...:lookaroun. The events would truly be wonderful but transportation to them PLUS the event fee would take away from my finances that allow me to GO to the parks....not much brain work there...
