In the Parks
Yes
It’s not that I don’t get it. I’m not saying this was anywhere near in line in terms of excitement as the last D23 but what happened was exactly what we’d been told would happen. So I set my expectations accordingly and wasn’t disappointed overall. We over hype this pretty much every time.

As for your giant caps ‘True Fans’ were in the audience... yah, they were. Or rather Disney Fans (Sorry, the true fans label grinds me. It pops up in every fandom I’ve ever been a part of and usually use of that label turns into a **** show of what constitutes a true fan). I’ll still go back to what I said earlier... Disney’s most important guests were the media, who will excite regular ol’ Joes to come to the park. Of course they don’t really care who knows what in that room. They have your dollar. They have your fandom. They want more people to get excited and join to they’ll spend their dollar.

We could argue all day that they should take a different approach but that’s the reality of where we are at now, cynical as that is. It should be something to keep in mind while approaching D23 in the future.

And truthfully on that note then, would you rather than do this then just every 3... or 4... or 5... years? So you get substantial announcements each time rather than occasionally modest ones? That might be the only solution

They presented what they are doing now and their plans into the early 2020s. You can wish they were doing more (of course I do too), but again, this was the reality of their current plans.

The true fan thing irks me. I know some of our people were there, but I think it would be more apt to describe it as 'die-hard fans with the means to visit'.

Just off the top of my head, and there could be more I'm missing ...

Brazil
Imagination
Coco in Mexico (wishful thinking though??)
More Mary details (I missed when it's opening)
MK 50th details (which could also just be a blog post I guess)
DAK (we know something seems to be brewing there)
DHS (again, we know something seems to be brewing there, Animation Courtyard, blackbox ride, Launch Bay ... using the space behind Sunset Blvd)

It kind of makes sense to keep that all until 2021, or start teasing it next year.

The Black Box thing seems to be happening and some thought they'd announce that, as well as AK. So ... were things pulled? Were they wrong?

Brazil seems to be a go but can we really be surprised they didn't announce it? I mean the boards were basically tryibg figure oit a way for Disney to make it feasible with what's hoing on there.

We know Imagination is a mixed bag. Some say Figment could be making a grand return; and my gut tells me that Figment will remain a character of Imagination. As to Dreamfinder, I have no clue. Ask @marni1971 lol.

Mary seems to be a dark ride..? Not sure if it's an E, D, etc.

The 50th isn't looking that good but rumblings have told us that it's likely some refreshes are in order.

A certain polar cetacean told us we're getting a new ride - I have no doubt there are talks but we don't really know what it'll be. We do know however that Dinoland isn't long for this world and will be replaced. We don't know if that is all that's being worked out.

DHS has fallen flat to me recently, and I hope they don't believe they're 'done' after TSL & SW:GE. The black box ride I have heard about.

It doesn't entirely make sense for them to hold out so much but by this time next year I've no question our wonderful insiders will lead us on to more than a few things, and we'll know quite a bit more than we do now.

As for whether things were pulled? I'm thinking some were just wrong. If you payed close attention to how some insiders reacted to others... some of these announcements didn't seem very valid. Maybe Brazil was pulled, but I'd highly doubt anything else was. Unless of course we were getting the Amazon land everyone was asking for in DAK 😬

- Reflections is still really confusing to me. I hate that Tiana’s restaurant is NOT in Port Orleans. Why not do... um... Home on the Range Steakhouse... or uh... Bambi Hunter’s... Eugh.... I guess this is the best natural movie they could come up with that doesn’t inspire the thought of eating beloved characters... still. Maybe they should have gone non-IP.

That was my immediate thought too -- a Tiana restaurant should be at Riverside, or even French Quarter, but she has specific rooms themed to her at Riverside.

The biggest problem with the missed expectations is a result of the 2017 expo doing first-time announcements for almost everything coming in 2020 or later. The super plugged in fans will also get mad about anything.

That being said, spending half an hour on Epcot and very obviously acting like the JII pavilion doesn't exist is very concerning. Announcing a nighttime parade in a park that already has one and ignoring the lack of one in the other domestic castle park is confusing. Injecting back-patting with SWGE and Make A Wish, along with other time wasting announcements with Target and DCL makes it seem like the parks, experiences and products (eugh) division is ignorant of or has borderline contempt for their audience at D23. An hour long panel that skips the junk is better received than what we got.

Daytime parade actually.

If they wanted to "counteract" they could have done so. They don't care to counteract and don't think they need to.

I appreciate the bright side but we've known all of this. It took them 4 years just to give us a name for TRON that we all already kinda knew? Same for showing off the marquee on the Chinese theater. Concept art for El CapiToon that could have been a blog post. Same for the parade.

It was just bizarre. It was simply hype and fluff.

This isn't being snarky but what did they *really* tell us today?

Tron was only announced in 2017? So.. two years? What more did we need about it... it’s a clone.

The way they played the Make-a-Wish stuff made me think they were going to announce some future commitment to the Make-a-Wish foundation. A donation for every trip the new Wish ship makes, or a dedicated space on the ship, something like that. There was a connection there begging to be made. Instead it was just, a pat on the back for what they've done in the past.

Somebody coughed on the live stream when they said Tiana 's Place so I completely missed it. Louisiana Bayou motif works for me. Maybe we will get a New Orleans Square section in the resort and great music offerings. 🎶

Then it would just be a copy of Port Orleans.

I don,t think they purposefully shunned Imagination or Figment. He was showcased and mentioned well enough. It's the opposite. Knowing that Figment is due for an overhaul, along with breadcrumbs left by insiders combined with what was shown on the D23 presentation made the fans think an announcement was eminent. Maybe it was pulled at the last second? Although this would have been the ideal D23 to make such an announcement given the larger Epcot rebrand.

i understand. But the concept fits the Reflections location like a glove. Port Orleans may be in for a retheme. It wouldn't take much as the theming is pretty light. Who knows?
