They keep on saying that this is the club for Disney Fans and that...This is the first time the reach out to the Fans..and my all time fave:This is the club for those that wish upon a star.

And in saying these things alone, it cuts down the people that DO these things but don't join. It's leaving out tactical information. ($$$) It's circular reasoning and elitist marketing at it's best.

Oh my. It's a simple advertising slogan. I did join, but if I had decided not to my ego is strong enough that I don't feel comprimised by a slogan that says "This is the club for those that wish upon a star". Notice it does not say "This is a club for those that wish upon a star, and anyone who does WILL join this club and anyone who does not join is really not a fan of Disney"

What would a non-offensive marketing slogan be? "This is a club for people that want to join this club"

Yes. :lookaroun

I get what you are saying, but Iger addressed the shareholders telling them that this is how they are reaching out to our fans.
And they mean us. There is even quotes from this very sites thread "Are you 23" on the actual D23 page describing the club.
I don't think they did a good job at all. I think they came up with a quick money making scheme and sold it to you.
Yes, I spend money on APs. Yes I buy stuff at WDW. Yes, I am a fan.
I don't see how spending $75 to get a certificate and the exclusive right to buy even more stuff is Iger or the company he represents "reaching out to me."
I have nothing against those who join, I hope you enjoy it and find it worthwhile.
I just believe it is not what they are selling it as, and that it was worth about $20 tops.

How do these non-US shipping fees compare to the norm? It seems Disney is losing a lot of sales because of that, at least based on the posts around here.
Disney Shopping is the only organization I'm aware of that charges based on price rather than size/weight. There might be others, but I've certainly never seen them.

Most on-line shopping gives the purchaser a number of options for delivery of merchandise, ranging from USPS surface mail all the way to guaranteed overnight express courier, all with varying prices based on the expected size/weight of the packaging. For example, if I order K-cups from Van Houtte coffee and get 4 boxes, Standard UPS is free, Expedited is $22 and Express is $27. With Disney Shopping I would pay $49.95 based on the price being between $60 and $80, no options.

My membership package cost $74.99, they charged me $49.95 for shipping. My clothes order cost $84.85, the S&H was $54.95. When they posted the pins later, the order came to $59.85 and S&H was $49.95. I'm not sure what price ranges match what S&H charges, but I'm guessing over $80 you pay $5 more than over $40 or $45...

Thing is, the membership includes shipping the initial membership package [certificate, ID, gift and possibly first edition of the subscription] as well as either three or four editions of the magazine. The three pins get shipped together in a fairly small box. How can both incur the same shipping cost?

No.

There is just not enough perks to go for it. Even with what you pay for the club that is ten dollars plus per issue, for only four issues. And it sounds just like the Disney Magazine they took away from us already, with company clips type stuff that I don't want to read about like "Catching up with Zack Efron." As someone else said that is not apealing to what this deal is supposed to be about.(presuming this is the company's response to the bothered long time Disney fans)

Also, it tickles me to go and see that you then still pay 20+ for T-shirts after you have already joined.

It is great marketing but since I am not going to make it to So-cal for a few days in September....nothing about the near 80 dollars is worth it.

Well, as I said before, I was planning on getting the 4 first year quarterly mags anyway.

At $16 a pop, that comes to $64. Since I get them with my membership, then the additional cost to join the club is $11.

$11 is worth it to me. If it was $75 and I did not get the mags, then I would not have joined. In fact if it was $20 and I did not get the mags, I would perhaps not have joined.

It is clearly in its infancy and time will tell where it is going.

I happen to think the price point is pretty well thought out.

When you factor in the cost of the magazines, as I did, it is only $11. However an initial outlay of $75 is somthing that makes people take pause. $75 is not somthing that is going to make or break most people (well maybe lately it is, but when was this conceived). A family of four can drop $75 at a chain restaruant. people drop that going to the movies twice as a family, Stop buying your morning Starbucks coffee and muffin and you can have that in under a month.

It's the initial outlay resistance that makes it almost "elite". What it does do is stops the causal person who will drop $10 here or there without thinking. Not that there are not fans that will drop $10 here or there, but there are a lot of people who join things just to join.

As far as "inside" information, I never really saw the big thrill. I don't care that WDW took out a permit to move a toilet. Some people do, but many of us, why do consider themselves fans, don't care . For the big stuff we do care about there are loads of other sources allready out there

I look foward to some good articles, in a format that I can read without a screen (after working in front of one for 10+ hours a day, it's nice to have actual paper in my hands and sit on the couch) and some nice merch, and what I have seen so far is nice. Maybe some perks down the line. I don't expect to be treated like a "true fan" or have some elite attitude. I think Disney has a pretty good track record of giving perks to certain groups (DVC members, Annual Pass holders, Credit Card holders, Castaway Club members) without making people who are not in those groups feel like second class citizens. Hopefully they contine that trend with D23

Do they not realize that a majority of the people in the world are in a recession? I seriously doubt someone in their right mind would pay $900+ for a pen... :brick:
I signed up with Disney 64 instead thanks. >:3

Well there is no magazines as a part of this Club. It is a publication. :D

HA! Funny. I would actually like to know how many pages do we get? What kind of paper? How is it bound? Tales From the Laughing Place is incredibly well put together. Beautiful paper and a stiff cover. Orlando Attractions (which I like) is on cheap paper with little design flair and some ugly ads. Celebrations(which I like as well) is kind of between the two.

Mystery solved. If you have Spam blocker, you probably didn't get the email. I found mine tonight in my Spam folder. It came through at 8:36 PM on the 10th.

Again, there are still a LOT of people in this world, and even in this country that are doing just fine.

Yes, many people are in tough time, but there are more than a handfull that are still buying. It takes them almost no effort to list it on the website. Even if only 50 people buy them, thats 50 more than what would have sold if they did not list it.
