Speaking of that, I would love to travel the US.
I haven't seen much of it at all.
Mostly, just what's between here and WDW.
Every time we start planning a vacation, and consider going some place else, besides Disney, we wind up changing our minds and going back!
We are hooked!
But someday, I would love to rent a RV of some sort and travel all over the country. That would be fun!

I got a giant book about the US this christmas. There's so much I haven't seen!

I saw more of Europe than I did of my own backyard.

We are young.

My cousin's city had buildings that were hundreds and hundreds of years old.
We're just a baby country.

So true.
I think it's great to live in a young country.
But it would be nice to visit countries with longer histories.

It's a great expecience... but as a twelve year old in a foreign country without the comforts of home, there's only so many old buildings you can see. Eventually, they all start to look the same.

You mean you were that far apart?! How did you manage that... I mean, I know you're a big girl, but that's a lot of space.

I don't think I could have done that...
That's why I stayed here...

What?

I had done a lot of traveling across the US (I lived in AZ for a few years) before DH and I were married, but he never had. So 2 years ago, the 4 of us flew to Phoenix, then traveled a huge circle through AZ, UT, CO, and NM. It was a great trip, and someday we plan to go back RV'ing it!

How long were you in Germany?

I bet that's true of many Americans.
Even Philadelphians. We have such great history right here.
Dh is an American history buff, in particular Philadelphia history.
In fact he has written two books on the subject. (I'm his editor, internet researcher and proofreader.)
Because of him I see Philadelphia as many of its residents don't.
We complain about a lot of things but this city has an amazing history that shouldn't be taken for granted or, God forbid, forgotten.

Really? What did he write?
I know there's so much history here, and yet I feel as if I've seen so little...

Separated from you husband by thousands of miles... that just seems like a lot to handle...

Oh, sorry I didn't get that.
Yeah, it was odd for us. I managed fine. I couldn't imagine, though, having a husband in the service. Gone for long periods of time, putting himself in harm's way. Now that's a lot to handle!

Sounds like a great trip. We went to Germany 5 years ago, but we were only there for a week. I was just so impressed - I'm definitely going back!

It's hard to imagine, but there still part of me that wishes I would do it...
I have an open invitation to my cousin's house for the summer, but...

I've hardly been west of Philadelphia.
And the furthest north I've been is NYC.
I have to get out more. :lookaroun

Just a week? How did you manage to fit anything. We we're there for two and there's still tons of stuff we wanted to do.

I definitely agree with you there. I don't know how my parents generation handled it when their husbands (and sometimes wives) were gone overseas and completely out of communication except for letters - I just can't imagine! Even with all our technology today, we still have so many families so far apart, and so many kids with a parent so far away!

I've never been west of the Appalachians. :lookaroun

We had gone over there because the chuch that our pastor used to serve in Bonn was dedicating their nursery to his late wife. It was kind of an impromptu trip, but since it coincided with our school vacation week, we decided we'd all go. We did see a lot while we were there, but there was just ever so much more to see and do!

He has an extensive collection of historical memorabilia, books and photographs. So he did two pictorial books on Philadelphia history.
"Philadelphia's River Wards" which is the history of the areas along the Delaware from the very beginnings of the city, even before it was a city.
and "The Construction of City Hall" which is just that, amazing pictures taken during the construction fo City Hall.
He has several projects going now. And he is really a great tour guide when we go down to the historic district and the surrounding areas. I see things I've never noticed before each time we go.
