crowds in late September....

This may already be a thread...but i didn't want to search for it. Has anyone ever been to WDW the final week of September? that's when my girlfriend and i are going. This will be my 29th time to the resort and her 4th time. We are hoping that it will be somewhat "dead" since most kids will be back in school and the summer is over.....

:D:wave:

Not sure about late September......But we went mid September last year and never waited over ten minutes for any ride or attraction. We enjoyed it so much we are going back the exact same date this year!

It is the absolute best time to go to WDW -- there are no crowds at that time and it is considered WDW's "dead month"...that is, nobody pulls their kids out of school during the first three weeks of classes -- I go at this time every single year. It is incomperable to those crowded peak periods. But shhh...don't let the cat out of the bag, everyone else will want to go at that time too.

By the way, the reason they run the free Dining Plan promotional for that time of year is to try to increase the attendance. In my experience, that promotional does nothing to increase the number of people there during that month -- but it does give those of us who go every time in September free food on top of no crowds.

We were at WDW the last week of Sept last year. The crowds were low. I think we had 2 waits of about 20 minutes, but that was it. Down side is that it was HOT & HUMID. Fantasyland was busy as always, but the rest of the MK was easy to navigate. We had to break each day, as our strength was sapped, and enjoyed the pool and A/C in the room for a nap. However, due to the free dining plan, the table service reservations were hard to come by in some locations, so plan ahead or you will miss out on the more popular places.

We'll never do that time of year again, because of the heat, but if you don't mind, it was really the only negative of that week.

PS, we were surprised at the amount of kids there. More than we thought. our then 6 year old, is on a balanced schedule, so her fall break fell during that time, so I wouldn't be surprised if many others were similair, plus many non US residents.

The free dining plan was how I convinced my DH that we could afford to go for our anniversary this year!!!

We are going mid-September and are really looking forward to lower crowd levels...... and not having to make a dash for Dumbo once MK opens.....just the 2 of us this trip!!!

great

good time to go for crowds, wa there last year the last week of sept. lots of british guests, alot of soccer jerseys & "cheers". the weather was very hot and humid, draining, muggy. but like a previous answer the crowds were nothing & the longest wait i think i had for anything was 20 minutes as well. bring ponchos, expect some rain, have fun, im jealous!!!!

You've made a very wise decision. The only problem I can see is there may be a few extra attractions that might be unavailable because it is so slow during your stay. Other than that, the weather, crowds and prices really seem to be in your favor. Have a Great Trip!

We are going the first 2 weeks of sep, how are the crowds then ???

As said previously in this thread, generally dead. :snore:

I was at WDW during September of last year, and Soarin' aside (it was still moderately new then), there were no queues longer than ten minutes- sometimes not at all. RnR was a walk on, as was ToT, Space Mountain etc.

Heat aside (it does get toasty then), it's the best time of year to go.

Once you've been to WDW during a slow time, you'll probably be amazed at how much different it is. We have a rule that our group will not wait in a line posted at more than 30 MINS, so needless to say we are pretty picky. Yes, there's ways to maximize your vacation in the busy seasons (we were there on this last NYE), but it's so much easier during the off times.

we love this time of the year!!!! we always say people are gonna catch on , cause the crowds are so low...but if you can stand the heat..its a great time to go...yes we are "bad" parents we'll be taking our 6 year out of school to go there .. she has spent every september there and has celebrated every birthday there since she was a baby.....and we'll be doing the same with her younger sister...we went in february this year...it was nice..but cold and quite a few crowds..... once you go at a really slow time ...like september......you really get spoiled.no lines..if any....it's so...nice...

I dunno, I think there MAY be a lot of folks out there who knew nothing about the free dining plan last year, that through word of mouth and these sites have heard of it this year. I know a LOT of folks (like me and my family of 7) who have made plans to come in September only BECAUSE of the free dining plan. So, it could be more crowded this year than in the past ....

This will be our 4th trip at that time of year and we love it. A cpouple of years ago it was very busy do to the hurricane. Mostly people from Florida they were given such a great rate that they had no electricity anyway and came over to Disney. Last year with the free Dining it wasnt bad we take our kids out of school every time and dont mind. Last year was the first time we hit rain. And it was nothing that ruined our trip. It is still very hot no need to pack jeans or sweatshirts we learned after our first trip. Have fun

Ok - so is this free dining plan only for people who book through a special agent or can vacation club members get it too- We are coming mid-September and it sure would be a $ saver, but we are Vacation Club Members?

Is the weather more hot and humid than August? I surely hope not!! We went in August a few times and the humidity was horrible at times. But with potential wait times of around 20 minutes, I'm not going to complain!!

yeah...i'm excited about the free Disney Dining Plan. We booked before June 25th.....so we got it included in our vacation package. I've always spent alot of $$$ on food at the parks and hotels....so this will be awesome. We have reservations already for our Table-Serveice meals. One night at California Grill and one night at 50's Prime Time cafe. We hope to eat ate the Italy and Japanese pavilion in EPCOT. September cannot come fast enough. I just hope the rain holds off. But that won't stop me. I'll walk around the parks in the rain.

:sohappy:
