Crowds are down? Curious about the claims . . .

Just curious - was there a longer than usual afternoon storm? In my experience, if it rains for more than 20 minutes, many people go back to their hotels until it stops. Then, when it's over, they head on back to the parks. Or even if they stay, they linger in restaurants and stores. I always had rain gear (including a cover for the stroller when my children were tiny) so continued walking around unless there was lightning close by.

I had the park to myself for a while, until people started coming back outside.
We didn't experience any rain yesterday while we were at AK. We left around 9:00 pm so it could have happened after that but then if people left, they probably wouldn't have returned.

No storms at MK before the fireworks and just a few raindrops after. It didn't feel any less busy than last July 3rd to me.

Just curious about Universal. Is Uni also seeing a decrease or just WDW. Could it be that more people are switching and spending more time at Uni? Besides our response to Hatty Potter is at least 4 years to being completed. And I highly doubt people will walk away being blown away like people after Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley were...Not trying to start an argument, but did WDW think that all the expansion and amazing work thats been happening for the last 3-5 years at Uni wouldnt affect them?

I've been told that there was a threat against the parks for this weekend. Can any of our resident moles confirm?

It's not surprising that the crowds are low, either way. After last month, I'm sure that a lot of people want to avoid big crowds and major symbols of western culture on 'Murica Day.

If the crowd levels continue to stay low, I might just have to buy myself a gold AP to celebrate my recent graduation..or maybe I should wait til mid August and see if silver AP holders start filling the parks when their summer black out dates end. I don't know ...the racing heart beat, gulping for air, bouncing in your seat excitement that I used to get after I took the Celebration exit has been gone for awhile.

As far as the economy is concerned, I know two of the national pharmacy chains(the two big ones) have been quietly demoting and cutting pay for long term employees in their stores. I imagine that while unemployment numbers look good, there are a lot of creative cuts taking place at a lot of companies. I know the national pharmacy chain that I work for ..the pay cuts were big enough to send families into foreclosure, I also found out the newer employees are not getting holiday pay or anything extra for working holidays..they do get a recorded thank you message for giving up their holiday with their families from the CEO during the music loop though...I guess that's something....lol

Curious to hear your take on DAK at night? It was pretty cool back a few years back when it was on the evening EMH. There is a lot more to do now. But back then it did seem lie the park emptied out when the EMH started up and we had the park to yourselves.

I believe that his point may be that it appears to be a WDW/Orlando issue since the tourist destination near him seems to be kicking on all cylinders.

And he doesn't seem to believe the recent events are factoring in yet. So that leaves price increases and cuts at WDW as a leading factor in the decrease in attendance.

Don't believe that is the case waits for universal have been basically low as well. Potter was 10 min today, so it does appear the entire market is not performing as same as last year.

It's not just Orlando, there are reports that California isn't having the best of seasons either.

Universal has been rammed though. Go look at wait times - 3 hours for Harry Potter Forbiden Journey. No Disney attraction had more than a half hour wait -unheard of at this time.
Universal is fairly not-busy right now as well. Stick to Iger, Ronnie/Jordan.....

I happen to be in Universal at this very moment and will attest to this. Gringotts is 30 minutes, Mummy is a walk on, MIB was 15, Simpsons was 20, Rockit is at a 45, and Minions is at 70 ( like it always is).

We've remarked numerous times how quiet it is, especially for a holiday.

Looking online at latest wait times - Minions is currently 2 hours, Gringotts is 90 mins, Simpsons 60 mins.

Compared to Disney - Soarin' -10 mins. Test Track - 15 mins, MineTrain - 30 mins.

If that's what it's showing online I can tell it's incorrect. I'm in the park at this very moment.

MDX is also currently showing test track at a 50, Soarin at 60. Still by no means packed and certainly low for this time of year. However, not the walk on that you're describing.
