News Crossroads Plaza Faces Demoliton

While they might listen to Disney, it's also true that Disney can benefit from this work as well and in the end FDOT will do what is for the overall greater good of traffic flow and safety. This area is an absolute traffic nightmare and has continued to get worse with each passing year. The enormous amount of residential development north of the RCID property just keeps making it worse every year. During afternoon rush hour the backups of traffic onto I4 (which is what FDOT is trying to fix) reach dangerous levels. They have wanted for many years to restructure traffic through that area but the location of Crossroads and some other adjacent properties has been the major barrier to resolving these traffic flow issues. Eventually something has do be done. And no it's not about Disney crushing competitors, it's about traffic flow and safety that everyone in the region will benefit from.

I get that this doesn't fit into the Disney is Evil narrative that many like to push but sometimes you just have to do the right thing for everyone and sometimes that may have a negative impact on a few. It's no different than a city or state taking land by eminent domain (Disney is not doing this) for the greater good of a community for a highway project.

But you can bet your last nickel that Disney will ensure that there are no non-Disney stores close to property after this is done, It solves a traffic problem and a revenue loss for Disney

We're 4 pages in and not a single mention of Fuddruckers?

I knew there was a reason I liked you.:D

Fuddruckers is the only reason we have gone to the Crossroads in years.

I've been hanging out at Crossroads ever since it was opened and since they had a Jungle Jim's, which had decent burgers. We still like to go there for Noodles and Co. and Fuddruckers, the other places I can go to where I live now. But it was definitely a hangout I liked when I lived in Orlando.

Isn't here another Taco Bell a couple miles down 535 on 192.
It's about 15 minutes farther without traffic. I go to the crossroads Taco Bell on lunch sometimes so time and distance matter at that point. The one on 535 & 192 is just too far when it comes to that.

Also I've never been to Fudruckers...good burger?

Just had my Monday at Moe's ... getting a bit tired of it!

As to the project, either you believe it is needed to greatly improve traffic flow or you cynically believe Disney is pushing for it to destroy local competition and drive people to Disney Springs.

I know where I sit on this one.

Why would Disney have developed it and then sell off the property if they would consider it a threat.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to develop it and keep ownership and just let leases expire if they felt this place was a threat to them.

Doesn't seem like a smart decision if they saw this as a threat especially since Lake Buena Vista shopping village now known as Disney Springs has been around since the late 70's.

I'm sure they like the idea of the road changes but somehow I doubt it that they are spearheading the closer of the mall

It's become a family tradition each year to hit Fudd's for lunch before heading in to MVMCP for the night.

Hate to have to drag everybody up to zombie mall to keep the dream alive, but you do what you gotta do for a great burger. :D
I am surprised we don't see more Fuddrucker's with the recent rise of all the high end burger places. Seems like you cant drive a mile in any direction these days without coming across a 5 Guys, M Shack, Burger Fi or the like, but Fuddruckers are as rare as hens teeth.

When did they close a ton of their locations? Maybe 15 years ago? I remember Fudruckers just vanishing from so many places.
I can't remember when the Boca one closed. I'm going to say mid 2000s I think.

Absolutely, and I've wondered the exact same thing. Their website lists 8 Florida locations, but 4 are in Miami, and 2 in the Orlando region. I've always felt that Fudd's was at the head of the pack, but perhaps we are in the minority.

I know they say that the upscale burger trend is waning, I certainly hope we don't lose the limited amount of locations in Florida already!

I think Fudd's has only been on my radar for around a decade, so I missed their contraction. I know we never had one near Sarasota. Tampa perhaps, if I remember correctly.

The Miami ones are pretty new. Like I said, they just started disappearing in SoFla one year. It was odd.

Oh yeah.. it was a family tradition for us in Orlando when visiting during my childhood. I can't honestly say that I frequented the ones in SoFla before they closed..but I did go every great once in awhile.lol

Sounds about right. They have been talking about putting one up in Jacksonville for what seems like forever, but nothing has ever come of it. In the mean time I think a good 30 or more 5 Guys, M Shack, Smash Burgers and Burger Fis have been built here in the last 10 years.

As a kid, Fudd's was always a vacation treat while in the south (typically Myrtle Beach or Florida). We got them up here in Ohio in the mid-90's in what seemed like their first big expansion push, but both stores disappeared around the new millennium (as it appears many other locations did as well).

Their toppings bar and fresh rolls are head-and-shoulders above the other burger chains that are so popular. And that hot cheese sauce...

It's called progress---or--- six of one or half a dozen of another. On one hand, the traffic jams in the area can be horrendous and something really needs to be done to alleviate the problem. On the other hand, for guests staying in the hotel plaza, the Crossroads gives them the option of walking to reasonably priced chain restaurants for some of their meals. This can be a definite plus on a tight budget or for fussy eaters.. It also gives access to a pharmacy and a grocery store.

Unfortunately, it seems you can't have both.

I haven't been to Fudd's since like 2001 or so, I do remember TV commercials that showed off the toppings bar and I def. went to town on that bar each time. Does it still exist, and if so, is it a shell of its former self?
