Creativity brings Nemo to life at Epcot

Krikeys how expensive could it be to rehab and run the Sea Cabs. As I recall it was a really short ride anyway. I can't imagine that could be a budget breaker. I'm hopeful that the optimistic tone of our other sources on Living Seas ends up being correct.

I know Eisner says alot of dumb things, but when did he say this?

Wow. I can't even explain how this qoute makes me feel. It's like a hole rippied in my chest.

P.S. Its like "the deluge" up here in Jersey.

Disney didn't want to pay for the rehab of the cabs themselves, and without a sponsor to defray the cost they just walled off the area. It's my understanding the cabs are just sitting there behing the walls still on the track.

Despite this, the high projected guest counts will increase the need for Sea Cabs - and I have heard from confident sources that it is a definite possibility.

FYI. . . the Living Seas sign was removed a few weeks ago and days later reappeared exactly the same. . . but the letters were elevated. Sponsor, perhaps??

I sincerely hope the SeaCabs come back. I just cannot imagine that the running them v. not running them is a significant budget item. This is the part that infuriates me a bit. Disney is happy to drop 170 million on Mission:Space but running the simple SeaCabs at Living Seas is a budgetary concern. I wonder if we'll ever see another new functioning omnimover dark ride at a Disney park. I have my doubts.

Here's what I wonder... if they are going to do new movies in the attraction featuring Nemo & friends, who on earth will do the computer animation of them? PIXAR doesn't seem to be too happy right now anyway. I see some interesting deals specific to Finding Nemo coming out of this... perhaps a higher profit for PIXAR films sold at the Living Seas or something. I'm not sure how contracts work, but I guess if the price is right, PIXAR would do new animation. After all, there's no character development involved in this one. It's purely animation and visual effects. And of course voice work. I suppose filming of the new movies would take place as well. Something that does bother me, is how they will intergrate the Hydrolators and Sea Base Alpha into the new Nemo theme. Ah, but that's what WDI is for. :)

this is my guess, Bill....i don't know when Pixar's contract is actually up...they didn't sign a NEW contract, but that doesn't mean their contract is already up. if that's the case, then Pixar would probably do the new animation, if disney asks them quick enough.
if their contract IS already up, or if disney waits too long to ask them, then the animation would still take place. it just wouldn't be Pixar's 3-D animation. after all, there is a Toy Story 3 in plans without Pixar's help...so i'm sure disney would do some Nemo animation without Pixar's help.

as for this whole adding Nemo to the LS...i think it will only help LS. the last time i was in that building, i couldn't help but think of how outdated it looked. i'm so thankful it's getting some much needed attention! i'm not the biggest Finding Nemo fan, either, but i think it was the perfect choice for that pavilion. let's hope the changes will bring in a sponsor, and a rebirth of the Sea Cabs!

Ok, don't hate me for this, but what exactly are the Sea Cabs?
TLS's Omnimover® system that took Guests on an underwater journey through see-through tunnels surrounded by millions of gallons of water and many species of aquatic life... En route to Sea Base Alpha...

OH WAIT! I remember going on this! Yeah, It was sort of a while ago so I didn't remember it. Why did they take it out? WHEN did they take it out? I really liked it - it should have stayed.

Pixar's Jobs 'Flexible' on New Disney Deal

Tue Jun 8, 1:59 AM ET Add Entertainment - Reuters Industry to My Yahoo!

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pixar Animation Studios Inc. Chief Executive Steve Jobs (news - web sites) on Monday left open the door for a new film distribution deal with Walt Disney Co., following an overture from the entertainment giant last week, but said no such talks had begun between the two sides.

Asked in an interview on CNBC whether he would rethink a deal with Disney if there were management changes, Jobs said he was open to the possibility. Jobs cut off talks with Disney in January and has clashed with its chief executive, Michael Eisner, in the past.

"We try to stay flexible, we're willing to rethink anything. But so far our phone hasn't rung with any new thoughts from anybody," Jobs said.

Disney and Pixar have produced a string of computer animated hits, from "Toy Story" to "Finding Nemo," and their last collaboration, "Cars," is set for release next year.

"In 2006 we will likely be distributing films with another partner. We're in the process of getting to know the other studios in Hollywood and they're being very gracious," Jobs said.

Eisner said on June 2 that he thought there was still a chance for a new Pixar deal, although he also said there were no talks between the companies.

I like what they have done so far, and it was certainly started the second coming of TLS.

I would imagine that any further upgrades would be scheduled after Soarin opens up, unless everything is done in sections, and would not require the pavilion to be closed at all.

Any chance the sign was raised so that the new sign could read "The Living Sea...with Nemo and Friends"?

Also, if renovating the sea cabs would be too expensive, could they (2nd to worst case scenario) rip out the track and just create a walking path? (worst care scenario being keeping it closed forever)

This is a multi-phase project that would likely involve the closing of the Living Seas at some point. The next phase was originally scheduled to take place over the last couple months, so I could even see it happening in the fall, now that it has been deemed a success. Recall that The Land closes for several months next January through Spring Break, so it might be better to make any changes to The Living Seas before The Land closes :)
