Is this gonna happen or not?

Who knows. There are variants. Not disputed, but it’s not inevitable that they result in another wave in the US anytime soon. It’s certainly possible but our cases totals and trend includes both old and new variants.

The virologists on the TWIV podcast think that the variant issue is overstated, by a lot. They kind of laughed it off on this weeks clinical update. Possible? Sure. But their take was that if these variants were going to take over in the US the way they did in Africa we’d see clusters in towns or cities overrun with the new variant already, and we just don’t. They think there’s probably a 3rd data point we have yet to identify that plays into variant susceptibility.

I had never heard of Eric Feigl-Ding but it appears that alarmism is his MO. He feels that sometime you need to be alarmist to get people's attention.

I travel for work, he called out a hospital I was near in a hotel as being "rationing care" several weeks ago in Pasadena late December. I just walked over to the hospital to see for myself because I was there and had time to kill. They were not rationing, one side of the dedicated covid ICU wing filled up and a few were going into another until a few folks left in the other building left later in the day. I'd take anything he says with a big grain of salt. The hospital did have a plan for it if they needed it, but they were nowhere near needing it.

You walked in and checked out the Covid wing?

I would be interesting to know if there is correlation with how people react to the seasonal flu vaccine. I personally have never had even the slightest reaction to that vaccine, but I know others who have.
I'd be curious too. I get arm pain from shots. That's it. Flu a day or two, dtap 2 or so days, MMR 2 days, covid 2 days etc like that's really it. My dad gets little to no arm pain from flu shots. Mild arm pain for covid. Will let you know about his 2nd when he gets it.

Because the advancement of scientific knowledge usually moves with the consensus of experts, it's a good idea to take the people with outlying opinions with a grain of salt. The lone outliers are occasionally proven correct, in which case the consensus opinion adjusts... but usually they're outliers because they're flat out wrong.

Tetanus is the only shot I can remember giving me any arm pain.

Good afternoon all, long time member just don’t post very often. Being a FF/EMT I was given the opportunity to get vaccinated very early on. I’ve received both shots, first one arm sore for 2 days no other effect, 2nd shot less arm pain but had no appetite day after which resided by day 2 post shot. Most people I work with same results though 2nd shot did cause some to have flu like symptoms for a day or 2. i usually don’t get the flu vaccine because I hardly ever get sick but was first to say yes to this just to get ahead of this terrible illness. We have lost 1 member of my department from it so it’s not worth downplaying the risks out there. So if you get the opportunity to get vaccinated do it for urself and everyone around you. This won’t prevent you totally from getting COVID but it will hopefully stop the worsening of the illness that has affected so many in the worse ways. i hope that helps anyone out there wondering if it’s worth to vaccinate.
I will close in saying I also hate to wear masks and that did help guide my decision as well.

I'm going to get ready for my upcoming Moderna shot #2 in 2 weeks with no planned activities for me immediately after the shot. My neighbors received Moderna shot #2 several days ago and experienced severe chills, arm pain and fatigue for 2 days.
I was in bed the entire day the day after my second Moderna. I did have less arm pain with the second shot compared to the first.

I had that one last year. It did hurt pretty bad. I had the MMR when I was 16 and needed my dtap booster. One in each arm... felt okay until I went to marching band. I was the head field commander aka the one doing the conducting/directing. The moment I said "ready horns up" and lifted my arms I was dying 🤣

Flu does hurt me, but not a lot. This hurt more like tetanus. No other bad side effects outside of feeling tired from the darn arm waking me up. I am a woman who is anxious and gets temp raises from that as well as hot flashes lol so I cannot say I had even a measurable fever. From what I read about trials for mine it was average. Moderna I hear is worse but still not awful on average. Just don't try to run a marathon or do a big hike the next day? Though 15% or so felt kinda bad. Still better than the real virus.
