There has definitely been a shift away in the popularity of stage shows and animatronic shows in particular. Their benefit though comes from the high instantaneous and hourly capacity they can provide to easily add an experience to a guest’s day.
There has definitely been a complete shift away from them. When was the last AA show even built? In the US, was it the Epcot opening stuff like American Adventure and Kitchen Kabaret?

I think it’s an untapped resource and they really do help to “round out” lands. I love the fact that every land in MK has some sort of show you can pop into easily to get out of the heat and see something.

I’ve long said a AA show in GE showing alien bands would do well and be a good modern take of the concept.

Think about how often Disney uses outside music as a storytelling shorthand for establishing setting or mood. Period accurate music on Sunset Blvd or Main Street. Or culturally relevant melodies and instruments in World Showcase and Animal Kingdom.

Would Impressions de France be the same if instead of French classical music they used that Maurice Chevalier record of him singing Disney songs? Probably not.

There's no substitute for the real thing. Country Bear Jamboree (and Vacation hoedown) uses actual country songs, which gives authenticity to the fantasy. Twangy versions of Disney tunes is not the same, even with the best intentions. There's also the benefit of exposing the next generation to this material, just like the Great Movie Ride. How many people now know "Blood on the Saddle" specifically because of this show? Disney likes to say the parks are not a museum, but showcasing technology, fashion, music, materials and even food from the past are all key components of the Disney theme park experience and the more authentic these elements are, the richer the end result and the more unique each individual offering is.

Remember that video they posted on Twitter of the bears singing "We Don't Talk About Bruno"? I can't believe nobody brought that up yet.

I mean, so was smoking, sideburns, and driving without seatbelts. But enough about my mom. You were saying something about Country Bears?
What you're saying is we should give Henry sideburns and a cigarette?

Link? Sounds absolutely awful.

Here's an unlikely scenario for the next Unofficial Guide:

A mom from New Hampshire writes in:
I'm so glad they changed the Country Bears' show to something so much more relevant and DISNEY-focused! I feel like there was nowhere in the park that we could hear classic Disney songs, especially in this country-fied style! We are definitely going to make this a MUST-VISIT every year!

The other thing is that Henry would most likely get a new voice; while Peter Renaday is still alive, he's 88 so I don't know if Disney would try to call him back in.

I'd love it if they got Peter Renaday back, but if not, I think Jeff Bennett would be a good choice for Henry (based on his Foghorn Leghorn in Looney Tunes: Back in Action).

It would stink to remove Thurl Ravenscroft's voice from the show. If they don't reuse Buff's lines from the original, hopefully they're able to find a voice actor who can do a good impression of him.

They could get Kevin Michael Richardson back if they wanted to acknowledge the movie.

I’m actually pleasantly surprised by this. The audio of the current attraction has gotten pretty bad and I assumed we were heading towards the bears getting the axe. while this is a less than perfect change I think it preserves the bears for a good while now.
Same here. I thought Bears was on its last legs, heading to the great moonshine still in the sky. It needed a change, IMHO. I love the bears, but they and many of their songs have aged poorly and a change of some sort was needed. I'm hoping the songs will not be the usual popular Disney tunes, but a more eclectic selection befitting the bears and friends. And, better the bears get to stay than their space becoming a bar.
