Countdown To Fun saying goodbye.

Best I can remember DCA had no parades while undergoing conversion to DCA 2.0. Seems like history is repeating.

Kind of. Except the timing and logistics are all wrong for DHS. Bob Iger announced the 1.2 Billion Dollar extreme makeover of DCA to the press several years before the DCA parade route had to be closed due to in-park construction. Then the DCA parade route was closed due to route construction for 18 months at the very end of that 4 year parkwide project.

This DHS news of suddenly cancelled parades seems to be getting the cart before the horse, if there even is a horse.

October, 2007: Bob Iger holds press conference announcing 1.2 Billion Dollar makeover for DCA, to begin construction in 2008 and be completed four years hence in 2012
2009-11: Multiple new attractions, entertainment, and new park construction debuts parkwide as part of DCA makeover
January, 2011 to June, 2012: DCA Parade Route closes due to in-park construction along parade route
June 10, 2012: DCA Parade Route reopens after 18 month hiatus with return of Pixar Play Parade
June 15, 2012: All-new Disney California Adventure, including Cars Land and Buena Vista Street, is re-dedicated by Bob Iger at conclusion of the 1.2 Billion Dollar extreme makeover

DHS has yet to be introduced to the horse that will carry its cart into a new era. If a DCA style extreme makeover of the entire park is coming, there needs to be a major Bob Iger media event scheduled ASAP. They are already cancelling existing parades and entertainment in a park that needs help.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn a major re-work of DHS is on the way. But if it is, they are handling this very differently than the DCA Extreme Makeover of 2007-2012. Very differently. o_O

Well..not quite. The parade hiatus at DCA happened towards the very end of the park rehab when they closed down the entrance area. Prior to that the parade still went ahead with performances during construction -- at one point they even had to squeeze the floats through two sets of construction walls on either side of the parade route (between World of Color and TLM construction) similar to what you see below

Here is Boo at DCA, performing for a construction wall during the parade in 2010!:D You'll notice they even carved out openings for the parade speakers on the walls.

There are a lot of options in that area. There was a rumor to move Jedi Training academy into the Sounds Dangerous theater, but Backlot Express, the backstage buildings, and Indiana Jones could all be cleared to make way for a huge Star Wars land.

I really wish that instead of a "Star Wars Land", that they would make a "LucasFilm Land" instead.

Obviously, most of it would be Star Wars/Indiana Jones...

They could have...
  • "Coming Soon by LucasFilm" kind of Museum like Walt Disney's One Man's Dream (if it was getting built now, it would feature Star Wars VII (should be the same for a Muppets Studios land, a Pixar Studios land, etc.))
  • "History of LucasFilm" Walkthrough/Museum like Walt Disney's One Man's Dream with props/models (should be the same for a Muppets Studios land, a Pixar Studios land etc.)
  • Indiana Jones Ride (to go with an updated stunt show - unless they are cutting stunt shows for safety reasons) - either an EMV, or a water attraction - DHS doesn't have one unless you count Pearl Harbor/Catastrophe Canyon.
  • Star Wars attractions/restaurant.

'Lessons Learned' perhaps. And an announcement is on the way it has been announced. o_O

If you are talking about the Monstrous Summer press event next month, that's not going to offer up much. At that event all they'll do is flog Limited Time Magic, MyMagic+, and remind everyone that Little Mermaid and Art of Animation opened last year, all wrapped up in a frothy summer marketing campaign with very little substance. The animatronic executives rolled over from TDO to appear at that event will use the words "dreams" and "magic" repeatedly, and then a light lunch will be served. Happens every time.

If something, anything, about DHS will be announced this calendar year, D23 Expo in Anaheim this August will be the best bet.

Disney Channel Rocks was one of the worst shows on property and Countdown to Fun was the definition of blah. Kudos to the performers for giving their all to try and pull them off... hopefully they get placement elsewhere. That said, I don't see many tears being shed when these two are put 6 feet under. Good riddance.

I apologize for not knowing who first had this idea, but a transition area can be made from 50's prime time into an Indiana Jones area which then leads into the woods, into a Star Wars area. The presence of Echo Lake makes this a bit more difficult, but the transitions can definitely work on that side of Echo Lake.

Well, if...

Hollywood Boulevard is 1930-1939
Sunset Boulevard is 1940-1949
Echo Lake is 1950-1959
Indiana Jones is 1935-1957 (at the moment)

So the idea could definitely work. All they would have to do is replace American Idol with something (maybe even the Coming Soon/History of LucasFilm museum I mentioned above). They could still have Echo Lake (Hollywood & Vine/50's Prime Time) in the same way they have Commissary Lane now (Sci-Fi/ABC), move the AI Building into "LucasFilm Studios" and have that museum replacing AI/Jedi Training replacing Sounds Dangerous.

The only thing that would be misplaced would be "Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame Plaza", but that seems like something that could easily be moved.

Actually they may release the details as they did with the FLE. Art work 'leaked' to create buzz for D23, then presentations, models etc at D23.

I'm working on another article where this is a small segment. The hardest aspect of a Star Wars land is going to be the transition around Echo Lake.

I guess at this point we shouldn't expect to get a Disney Parks Blog or any official confirmation from Disney these shows are closing aside from internal annoucements made to Cast Members?

It's made the advisories tab on the hub, so it is official. As to whether they'll announce it to the public, who knows. You'd think the blog would announce something. They may wait until the day before...
