Countdown to Extinction/DINOSAUR intensity question

My wife tricked me and my son. She made it seem like nothing

My Mother did the same thing to me when it was CTX. She had been on it a year before me, and wouldn't tell me anything about it, and so I didn't know what to expect.

It was scarier...and what I remember more about the original was that the vehicle was rough...but seemed more in synch with the action going on around you.
Like when the dinosaurs charge you, it felt like the vehicle itself reacted to it.

Kinda hard to explain...but the last time I rose Dinosaur, I felt like the rough movement of the vehicle didn't have any real reason...other than to jostle you around at random times.

Last time I rode was in 2003 before the changes! I swear the Carnotaurus moved forward, and actually chased the vehicle for a couple of seconds, or did I imagine it? Definitely scared the crap out of me the first time I rode it.
The audio of the carnotaurus chasing you was taken away, the jumping lizards no longer "jump" and the pterodactyl that swoops in no longer actually swoops due to safety concerns.
Based on the research I did for my CTE page @Sped2424 is right with what the changes were. Lots of folks have said in the past that the ride vehicle programming was altered to not be as "bumpy" (less hydro movements) and the speed of the vehicles were slowed down but I've never confirmed those items nor do I think really that there is any truth to it. In fact, I have joked with my husband that it seems like they sped it up to get more folks through. :D

You know every time I see the Video in the preshow of the jeep in action it looks pretty intense and few people laugh about it when they see it for people who haven't experienced it..I would say Indiana Jones at DL is a bit more rough..

The ride's movements seems to be the only thing that has not lost its intensity since they renamed it to Dinosaur.

I felt like I was in a jeep driving over rocks in fast forward the last 2 visits. The effects however really need to be spruced up a lot. They all just slightly glow in the dark and are just really hard to see.

I think with me anyhow it is an age thing. Riding it for over 15 years now, the ride hurts. Kinda the same way Space Mountain hurts me now where it didn't when I was a decade younger.
With the new brakes going in space mountain that might not be an issue anymore!

Indeed it was. Good catch.
Ah, thanks. Lowering the height requirement would not be possible without A. modifying the restraints, which has not happened, or B, reducing the movement of the ride vehicle.

Case closed!

See, I remember in the days of it being CTX, thinking that you would actually have a hard time staying in the vehicle without the seatbelt there. Now, you still get tossed around a lot, but not to a point where it feels out of control. I thought maybe I and others were just remembering the ride differently, which tends to happen with time.

I actually prefer Indiana Jones over Dinosaur, for some odd reason. In roughness, I would have to say Dinosaur wins that round. But I guess Indiana Jones is a little tamer for me. A few years ago when I rode Dinosaur, and they show the picture when you get off, yeah my head was in between my legs (literally) and my hands were covering my ears, because I was so terrified of the Carnosaurus at the end. ( I still am )

Yeah its set to go down a few days in September so that they can give the ride some brakes at certain parts to slow it down.

See I knew about the multiple times it was going down, brakes etc. but didn't correlate that to less jerking and thrashing. I'm excited. Thanks.

Why don't they just remove it everyone whines all day about the cars and the roughness and this and that....i want to know when WDW started forcing people on to these rides at gun point....oh wait....

Everything seems to get dulled down and dumbed down to appeal to those that complain...I say don't ride it again if its that bad.

Okay, so over the years I've heard many conflicting stories on CTX/DINOSAUR regarding if it was toned down at some point or not, and how much. I know the audio was altered at some points to be less intimidating, and of course various effects have been disabled over the years, but what about the movement of the vehicles? Many claim that the speed and movement was toned down as well at some point.

So does anyone know the answer for sure? And if so, when exactly were the changes made? When were the most recent changes (besides the recent laser effect)?

I apologize if there is a thread on this already, but if there is one, it's been a while.

The Ride Vehicle profile has not been changed since opening. But the show quality has gone way downhill since the opening.

But if this is true, how were they able to lower the height requirement by 6 inches, especially since Indy is still 46 inches?

Well, it is true. Let's see.. ride profile still the same, the seats stayed the same, and the seat belts stayed the same. So there was no changes to the ride vehicles, then it must have been a management decision because they wanted younger riders.

Which makes sense, since the overlay to promote the film was targeted for a young crowd.
Reducing the height requirement allowed more of the target audience demographic the chance to ride and *advertise* the film to them directly.
