Could Star Wars fans be the ultimate winners...

Star Wars content spans 3 generations. The original trilogy, the new trilogy, and the clone wars all have very strong fanbases. What's strange is that while there is a common theme amongst them there is devisiveness amongst the groups.

If a land were to be named Lucas land, I would hope that it would include elements of all 3 - as someone that has no strong feelings towards any of them I think that would create a sense of balance in the force... so to say.

I would also expect a return of original theme park characters/experiences designed in part by George Lucas. He has done this successfully in the past, and see no reason why he wouldn't be able to do it again in the future.

I wouldn't mind if they got nostalgic and Captain EO and/or Alien Encounter found their way over by Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular and Star Tours, but I would also appreciate an entirely new experience to go along with what is already there.

This is what I never understood about Disney they have the theme park rights to the biggest movie franchise in the world and for the most part ignore it. Sure they have Star Tours and Star Wars weekends but that is nothing compared to its potential. If this was to be done right it must be done like The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and be fully immersive. It can not be set up like a movie studio! You need to feel like you are stepping into the Star Wars universe not some fake movie set.

Oh and if they really wanted to take some of the wind out of Harry Potter's sails this summer they would announce this during the Star Wars Celebration being held in Orlando this August. I would be laughing pretty hard at Universal if this was to happen. Of course it won’t. Oh well, its fun to dream.

I think they should base a whole land on the movie Grease with John Travolta.

Everytime you walk into the attraction you'd hear John Travolta say "SANDY!!?", kinda like the Walt trigger as you walk into One Mans Dream.

Obviously I'd rather see the originals but I'm willing to go with a mix as long as its tied together well. I mean there were a couple redeeming factors in the prequels like Ray Park and Samuel L. Jackson. Outside of the Jedi themselves it basically was all crap. But now we're getting into a different fan site alltogether. :)

I'm not talking about the disappointing prequals. I'm talking about the "offical" re-release versions. The original trilogy destroyed by Gredo shooting first, then Han having the exact same conversation with Jabba, additional digital characters moving jerkily throughout the movies, adding a girly scream to Luke's plummet in Empire, and a ton of other useles stuff.

As much as I don't like the prequels, they were their own thing and easily dismissed. The re-releases were a bastardization of something I held extremely dear, and with Lucas' complete refusal to aknowledge the originals, it was like pulling teeth for him to even release them on DVD, I'm sure if Disney built a Cantina somewhere--Gredo would be shooting first. And I would die a little inside.

Are you sure Lucas would want to exercise complete control? Sure, he has the final say on everything Star Wars-related, but he isn't micromanaging Clone Wars like he did the Prequel Trilogy, and look at all the Expanded Universe stuff he's allowed to be published, despite the fact that a lot of it bears very little resemblance to Star Wars.

Sorry, I misunderstood you there. I'm 100% behind you. One of the things in the re-releases that infuriates me is working Hayden Christiansen into the end of RotJ. He looks awkward as hell and he couldn't act to begin with.

Expanded universe is the exception - but if you notice, Lucas doesn't even pay lip service to anything created by the authors. For instance it was accepted long ago into the canon that the Death Star was designed at the Maw Installation not on Geonosis. Lucas decided that HE wanted it designed in this convenient location for Attack of the Clones and poof - goodbye hard work of Kevin Anderson.

Sorry guys, way off topic here. I'm going to take a page out of Yoda's book and stick to Disney comments.

Wow, that would be BRILLIANT! The possibilities are endless! Look at the attention that silly Jedi training thing gets. And I am not a Star Wars nerd. Just someone who enjoyed the original films.

If there was a Star Wars land, my husband would not get a moments peace. And I think he might loose a little respect for me. :ROFLOL: But as highly probable as it is, a fangirl can still dream. :)

Let's assume SW won't happen. Too much money, no agreement with Lucas whatever...

Would Disney ever consider an area or ride themed around Narnia? Or were they displeased with the impact of the movies (moderate hits but not world beaters)?

How about the rights to LOTR? Certainly that would be a slam dunk.

Of course, I've read about so many blue sky idea over the years that sound fantastic (Fire Mountain, Villians Mountain, Mt. Fuji, etc.) that they could just dust off a couple of those.

JTTCOTE to DAK (an on again, off again rumor) would have a massive impact.

Really, they just need to spend the cash on something.

A Narnia 'land' would be an absolutely indescribable addition to a park. Really, done properly (and therein lies the real point) there would be no comparison. But Disney could do a "Potter Killer" over any number of concepts. Consider back in 1982 the creation of Epcot's original, awe-inspiring attractions based on normally mundane subjects like energy, communications, and transportation - and not a thrill ride in sight.

Star Wars or Narnia would make incredible additions to a theme park, or Disney could do something original. The key element is not so much the source material but what you do with it - and I have little confidence in what Disney today would do with Star Wars.

Not to mention the fact I'd rather not have a Star Wars area heavily focused on this Clone Wars crap they keep pushing anymore. If that's what it'd end up being, I'll pass.

Clearly someone hasn't been watching Season 2, which has been awesome and much closer to the original trilogy tonewise. The series in general has been better then the crappy pilot movie.

I find is amusing how many posters here think that WWoHP could be brushed aside and 'forgotten' because of a SW land. HP is the biggest movie franchise of all time (I know it is not inflation adjusted but it still has the record. It is extremely current and will remain so for atleast the next 2 years as 2 more films are due out plus all the subsequent DVD releases. The books are here to stay for kids to grow up with in the same way that kids have grown up with Disney for many years.

Worst of all I find it strange how Disney fans want to 'laugh at Universal.' The quality that Universal is creating is excellent, and the success of HP drawing crowds away from Disney is probably the major driving force behind some major creative thinking and action from Disney in the near future. Whether you hate Universal or not you should be hoping WWoHP is a major success for the state of the Disney Parks.
