Could Cars 2 movie mean Carsland for WDW also?

With news of a potential Cars 2 showing up again this week...

Another Hint That Cars 2 Is In The Works!

The swench blog points out that a comment left on the Jungle Book Documentary (and some musings on pacing in animated film) post on the Temple of the Seven Golden Camels blog by a Pixar story artist who says:

CARS
ended up a big financial success, (they are making a secqual already because the merchandise have been fenomenal)

So there’s another hint that a Cars 2 is in the works at Pixar!

This follows up a report from the summer....

Cars 2 - 2011?

According to a very reliable anonymous source Cars 2 will be released after Toy Story 3! So it looks like the rumors are true! We are still waiting for an official announcement from Pixar though. Maybe this could be Brad Lewis' unannounced project that he has been talking about?

So Pixar is going to put out 2 sequels in a row. Pixar always likes a good challenge.

One question I have is that Paul Newman has retried, In the rumor about a Cars 2 in early June of this year Paul Newman said that Pixar was making a Cars 2, so how would he know about a Cars 2 unless someone has told him or he has singed up for it, or maybe he’s already done some voice work, but I doubt it.

I expect Cars 2 to be Pixar’s 2011 release and John Carter of Mars to be Pixar 2012 release, but remember that is just my opinion.

This just got me to thinking -- wouldn't this be about when Carsland will be done at DL? Also, wouldn't this be about right for the next rehab if the Space Mountain (1.5-2 years?) project starts up in the next few months? Could Autopia be getting a referb just in time for the release -- again, "IF" this sequel is to come about? I could see a totally scrapped Autopia with a whole new theme. Maybe not so Test Trackish as the DL version (Everybody knows we need NO MORE CLONES).

Form what I have heard and judging by the concept are the main attraction in Cars land will be an attraction similar to TT. If this is the case then I do not see Cars land, in that form at least, coming to WDW. Also many of the DL faithful (Jim Hill and Al Lutz) have been touting Cars land as a DL only attraction. But as we know decisions get made and unmade all the time at Disney so take that for what it is worth. I would think that the retheaming of the beloved go carts at MK to a Cars theme would be possible and almost inevitable. The only way that I could realistically see DL's Cars land coming to WDW is if GM were ever to yank its sponsorship of TT making a makeover necessary.

If they ever did this refurb I would really hope that they would put Mator on the track backwards and make him drive in reverse.

I would say chances are very slim. Test Track is v.1 of Carsland so they my update TT with some of the new tech but I doubt it will get a retheming.

I actually like the term Autopia, but as I've always thought that the Tomorrowland Speedway is a useless ride and in the wrong place, I would have no problem with it...

Of course, there will be a group of ultra-purists who will be greatly offended...

Agreed, the original Autopia in DL's Tomorrowland was great, but the Tomorrowland Speedway... just doesn't make sense.

Is there any way they could re-theme it to Cars and then... somehow make it part of Fantasyland? It doesn't really look like they could, but hey, it's an idea.

I would love to see it.

Anyone else think that there should DEFINITELY be a V8 Cafe/Diner (a la Mel's at universal-ish)
Absolutely. Think of the possibilities...drinks served in oil cans dispensed out of gas pumps etc etc.

This may be the ONLY time when Pixarification or Cartoonification of an attraction doesn't face any resistance!
Don't worry. I am sure there is at least one guy out there that thinks the change of the Tomorrowland speedway to a Cars theme will mean the absolute end of WDW.

We all remember the solitary fan of the HM spiders don't we?

Since it butts up against Toontown, I think that would be the perfect place for it. Build a queue that starts somewhere in Toontown and winds its way around the track to the current starting location for the cars. Then perhaps put trees up around the edge of the queue once it moves out into Tomorrowland so that the two Lands don't collide. It would probably also require trees planted over by Space Mountain too.

No resistance here! I loved Cars (the movie) and so did my son (probably why I like it so much). The merchandise is still crazy popular so I say go ahead and retheme it.

But I do have one question - what is Carsland? Did I miss something along the way? Is it one "Test Track" type ride within a themed area?

I enjoyed the cars movie. Them changing the Indy speedway over would be huge. My nephew was 1.5 when he first saw it and he must have watched it 4 times a day. With a car themed ride i can't imagine how many times he would have wanted to go on.

Carsland or Carland is set to come to DCA or whatever the park may be called in the future. If you do a search there is concept art and it does look very Test Trackish with cars going head to head instead of the solo trip around the speed zone.
