Costumes at MNSSHP

The family and I are planning to go to MNSSHP this year and like every other cool/geeky parents my wife and will be dressing in costumes. I am having a few concerns concerning mine though. I will be going as Jack Sparrow and not to toot my own horn the costume has turned out amazingly well so there is a possibility I will be confused as a cast member dressed as Jack. I know Disney has a policy against this but they don’t really get into any specifics and I kind of assumed it was to prevent someone dressing up as Mickey and reeking havoc. So my questions are this:

1. If I go as Jack and don’t pretend that I am a cast member will I get any flack?
2. Will the plastic pistol cause a problem?
3. Will a fake sword cause a problem?

Any help, experiences or info would be appreciated.

I went as Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) and though a lot of the kids thought I ws the real deal, nobody really seemed to mind. As long as you use common sense and don't do anything un-Disneylike while dressed as one of their characters, I think you will be fine

The wife and I have gone as Tweedle De and Tweedle Dum the past 2 years with no problem.

Most people have no clue who Jack Sparrow is anyways, so it wouldn't be a problem :D

I have been to MNSSHP for the past two years. This past year I saw a few pirates/Jack Sparrows, and one was amazingly convincing. It would be very unlikely for you to be confused as a cast member because
A) The cast members are not in costumes without their nametags (in other words you always know a cast member when you see one)
B) there have not yet been any characters that walk around from Pirates of the Carribbean at MNSSHP to my knowledge.

We like to get all elaborate when planning our costumes (Ryland and I). Our first year we were Jack and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas, and last year we were Mary Poppins and Bert. (Both years were well done, esp. Poppins and Bert, if I do say so myself! :animwink: PM if you'd like to see pics!) The first year, two CMs on stilts in Ariel's Grotto assumed we were also CMs.
This past year, coming in as Mary and Bert, we were told "You're not allowed to sign any autographs while you're in the park."
We said, excuse me?
The (very kind) CM at the turnstiles said that because our costumes were so good people might think we were CMs, especially kids, and if they did, we weren't allowed to fake it and pretend to sign autographs. They're very specific about the way characters sign autographs. She said we were more than welcome, however, to take pictures with guests (AND BOY DID WE!!!!) Sure enough, not two minutes after she said that, a mommy with two little girls asked to take their picture with us. It was kindof fun!
It was certainly flattering to have them tell us that, although it caught us off guard, because it meant we really did look good!
Ryland and Drew (our friend who dressed up as another chimney sweep) had even choreographed a little bit of Step In Time right out of the movie and periodically stopped and performed it in the street throughout the night.

(While waiting at the TTC for some friends, a band of four men in overalls and Disney hats came up behind us and started playing Supercalifragilisticexbealidocious! So much fun!)

My best advice for MNSSHP as "adults" is don't chicken out of dressing up! Some of my friends chickened out because they were convinced no one else would be in costume or that only little kids would be. Not true! LOTS of people will be dressed up, adults included. DO IT!!! It adds so much to the experience. Go for it!

We've already started thinking about our plans for next year! :sohappy:

I'm totally thinking of going as Dreamfinder this year. I have already bought a Figment puppet and will be investing in the rest of the apperal before the event.

Just curious…are there a lot of people there dressed as Jack Sparrow?

I went to three MNSSHP's last year, and the later in the month the more people dressed up in general than earlier, and the amount of pirates increased. Because Pirates are an easier costume in general (and most of the parts can be bought in the park) there were a large number of them, but only a few who actually dressed up as Sparrow specificly.

One really stands out in mind (he even SMELLED like how I imagine Jack would), but if you are asking because you are afraid there will be too many - I wouldn't worry about it. It's nothing compared to the dozens and dozens of princesses infesting every corner of the park. ;)!

Thanks a lot for all the responses. I guess I will be Jack Sparrow at MNSSHP this year. It will be my first time to this event and my wife just revealed to me that she wants to go on Halloween night. So let the chaos begin. Any one know when tickets go on sale? I’m assuming that it is 90 days before the event starts but I would hate to miss out.

If I'm not mistaken, last year the tickets for MNSSHP and MVMCP both went on sale on May 1st, believe it or not! Get them while they're hot, especially if you want to go Halloween night or any Friday!

Thanks a lot. I really don’t want to go on Halloween night but looks like I am anyway. Guess who is the boss at my house.

Ahhhh Jack Sparrow gets a tasty snack from the fridge! He might even eat it in the cute little Breakfast nook. . . But why is the rum gone?

As far as I know the only "rule" that is enforced is that you cannot have your face covered. Slighly less enforced is if costume parts interfere with movement.

As was said before, the closer it gets to halloween the more people are dressed, but last year we went the first weekend in Oct. and there was a nice representation...mostly kids, but a good number of adults. We rode the monorail with a family where dad was dressed like Pooh in a full body costume. It was in the 80's that evening, and the poor guy was sweating profusely before he got to MK.

It was a rule, but last year I can't tell you how many people wore "Scream Masks" all night, and little kids too!
