Cost vs Comfort...(no riff-raff please)

Howdy Everyone,

Were getting ready to plan our next WDW trip and in the past we stayed at Coronado Springs and Riverside. Both were great but Riverside was much better. Our next trip we were thinking of staying at one of the value resorts so we can visit for a longer stay.

Were just curious what the noise level is like at night at the value resorts vs the Moderate Resorts. I guess it really depends on each resort but I know for a fact that Riverside and CS were both really silent at night and seemed very secluded.

What's everyone's feelings on value vs moderate. Because after a long day in the park I would rather be able to sleep and not here kids running around all night. Do the value resorts get a lot of "riff-raff"

or maybe the extra moo-laa (cash-oh-la) is worth it for the Moderate.

Thanks
Tim

Absolutely!!! If I had a choice of the Value resorts or nothing, I certainly would choose the Values. I also would choose the Value level resort over a lot of off property resorts. Within the three catagories though I do prefer the Moderates so far for a mix of reasons. Quiet and not as much push and shove going on is only two of them. Belle

Im sorry, dont see a reference to the color of a persons skin being a qualification for riff raff?

I don't think it was meant that way. I think he/she was generalizing. White/black/red/purple/green - color doesn't matter. Trash is as, trash does.

Why do people have the need to de-value the value resorts... snotty *****. I love me some vacation for 1/2-1/3 the price as what it could have been.
I totally agree with you. We regullarly mix in staying at the Value Resorts to lengthen the stay on our trips. If we were not DVC members, we would be staying at Value Resorts almost exclusively.

Yes, we have run into loud people at the Values. But we have experienced the same at Wilderness and Saratoga. You will find disrespectful people anywhere you go.

white-trash, parents that don't watch their kids, letting them run around like complete idiots, slaming doors, yelling/screaming....that's riff raff. And it's not something that anyone should have to witness at 2:00am because of parents lack of parental guidence. I'm not saying you get this at value resorts...hell you could get this at the GF...but I'm sure it would take two seconds for managment to stop it at GF.
See...still not edited....

My family has stayed at the All-Star Movies for the past 3 years and don't have any major complaints about it with noise or anything, although if there is a school function taking place, like what happened to us in feb 06 when there was a swarm of screaming cheerleaders running around:fork: , chances are they will be at the value resorts.

edit what? never mentioned race/color...are you bored? you read into stuff to much.
No, I am offended that you and others feel that its apparently ok to use derogatory language toward certain races and cultures, but not ok to others. White trash is a derogatory term.

You can't win no matter what you say, so just stick with riff-raff. If they don't know what it is, let them look it up. Just go and have a blast!

rolleyes:

I guess you should have said "people that don't bathe, wear dirty stained clothes, don't take care of their physical appearance, have three teeth and who may or may not be caucasian".

OR just state hey I don't really want to stay at a hotel where really loud people reside.

shame on you for trying to explain riff-raff (your explanation was EXACTLY what I was thinking when I read your original post).

Check your PM.

I personally would rather pay extra for the extra room (as you go up in quality, the rooms do get larger) and the extra amenities. To me, it worth it....may be not to others.

As for riff-raff...maybe you avoid them with going moderate or deluxe...I'm not sure. We've been at deluxe resorts and at DVC resorts and had loud people bother us. I've never stayed at a Value so I can't compare whether it is worse or not....it's always possible for "riff-raff" with money to stay at higher quality resorts. It's also my experience that income level doesn't necessarily guarantee good behavior. I know of plenty of "well to do" people that have no class and are rude and a lot of "riff raff" that have a lot of class.

I always recommend staying at the highest quality resort you can afford or are willing to pay for.

We have no children and are extremely light sleepers. That being said and noted I'd like to add my two cents worth.

Stayed at Grand Floridian, a child next door screamed for hours at a time. I never new a child could carry on like that. Our room was definitely not sound proof and this is at their top resort.

Stayed at Wilderness Lodge as others have stated before, kids running up and down the halls, slamming doors and yelling in the cavernous hall. Never going back to that resort.

Stayed last year at Port Orleans Riverside didn't have a problem, we slept very well. It seems everyone on our floor were older couples, no children. We were very lucky.

Never stayed at a value resort.

My point is I don't think it is possible to have a quiet nights stay at a resort that has thousands of children no matter what the quality of the resort.

We love WDW and figure no matter where we stay and at any price range, you will have tired weary children and older children that are just wound up tight.

We will continue to visit WDW and know that there will be loud children, but at least not loud, obnoxious, vulgar drunks that are found at all the other resorts in cities around this world.

This year we are staying at the Carribean Beach Resort. Wish us luck.

We didn't have any problems at All Star Music last time I stayed there, it seemed fairly quiet. The only tip I have is to make sure your room isn't in the VERY back! Ours was in the country music buildings and we walked forever it was a looooooooooong way away from the busses also.

As far as noise goes, its a gamble with any hotel you can ask WDW travel if you can get your room near an adults room or older kids room. [I have done that in the past with WDW and chain hotels.] Its nothing personal, we just had a bad experience in Indianapolis with a screaming 4 year old all night next door.

Anyway...hope my ramblings help.

I've stayed at the Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge, and Pop Century at all times of the year and certainly never had trouble getting sleep! And both times I stayed at the Pop Century we were right beside the pool. Just dumb luck, I guess.

We have stayed at various resorts at WDW including all of the value resorts. Perhaps we haven't had any issues with loud obnoxious riff raff at the value resorts is we get back to the room at the end of the night so worn out we are out before our heads hit the pillow. That being said, I think like others have said, its sort of dumb luck on who your neighbors will be.

BTW, we pick values because we'd rather have a larger retirement fund in our old age while still enjoying WDW, not because we don't have the resources to pay the extra $$.
