Cost vs Comfort...(no riff-raff please)

Howdy Everyone,

Were getting ready to plan our next WDW trip and in the past we stayed at Coronado Springs and Riverside. Both were great but Riverside was much better. Our next trip we were thinking of staying at one of the value resorts so we can visit for a longer stay.

Were just curious what the noise level is like at night at the value resorts vs the Moderate Resorts. I guess it really depends on each resort but I know for a fact that Riverside and CS were both really silent at night and seemed very secluded.

What's everyone's feelings on value vs moderate. Because after a long day in the park I would rather be able to sleep and not here kids running around all night. Do the value resorts get a lot of "riff-raff"

or maybe the extra moo-laa (cash-oh-la) is worth it for the Moderate.

Thanks
Tim

I have stayed at the All Start Sports and I actually enjoyed it. The noise levels all day are very high though. At night there were kids running around and it was noisy in the common areas. We were in a building almost as far from the common areas as possible so once in the room you couldn't hear anything.

I guess it is just going to be a matter of your preference and budget. If noise is an issue to you then you would be better off at a moderate. If cost is more of an issue you should be happy at the All Star Resorts. The service is the same no matter where we have stayed. The CM at the All Star Resort treated us just as good as the GF does.

I've never had a problem with noise at ANY of the Disney Resorts (Value, Moderate, or Deluxe). Then again, I'm not exactly a light sleeper.

I'm a very light sleeper and I've never had a problem. I didn't feel like Pop Century was too loud. Really only the pool areas stay loud into the evening, and you can just request a room not facing a pool area, such as the rooms facing Hourglass Lake, and it's both quiet and the view is nice.

I stayed at All Star Music a few years back, noise wasn't a problem, but I had requested a room that wasn't facing a common area.

Imho the rooms were a bit on the small side, and I prefer queen sized to the double sized beds the value resorts have (I'm on the larger side). But that's mroe a personal preference thing.

It's partly dependent on when you are going. If you end up going during the Pop Warner events, cheerleader event or similar, then you may encounter more noise at the All Stars. They try to lump them into groups, but we still had a couple of times when noise was an issue. A call to the front desk and it was taken care of quickly.

For Pop Century... never had a problem with noise!

Enjoy your planning!

I have never had noise problems at any of the resorts, but if you are light sleeper there are ways around any possible noises that could bother you. If you are at a value (this could apply for other resorts too), stay away from the pool and main lobby area. Also stay on the highest floor of the building. Then you shouldn't have problems with noise at all.

If it means a longer stay, stay at a Value.

I own an all star cheerleading gym and have brought teams down to ALL STAR SPORTS for the event. During those times things do seem to be a little noisy.

However, as far as I know, they don't use POP for those type of events so even if an event is in town ,if you are at POP you should be fine.

While i was poor "college years, bad jobs" i would stay at the value resorts. I did not hate them and would stay again to save money especially if i have kids. I prefer the WL and dont mind spending the extra money now. No matter where you stay you shall be happy.

To be fair...

Noone can deny that the walls at the Value resorts are paper thin and your noise level depends on the neighbors you have.

You can hear the television if they leave it on and take off for the night. You can hear normal conversations through the walls, and you can hear every single plumbing activity as if it were taking place in your own bathroom - flushing, showers, etc...

Also, the minimal weather stripping saround the doors and windows allow most of the noise from the walkways to be heard pretty well. Lots of people come back to the room after a night of drinking and are not exactly quiet. The balconies are also used as smoking lounges by loud speaking people at all hours.

It's true. If you are a light sleeper, you will hear stuff.

There's always a 50/50 chance you will have loud neighbors - no matter where you stay.

From what i remember it wasn't too bad but also CS and POR are very quiet resorts. I remember Caribbean becah being VERY noisy though. Not really by the rooms but the high traffic areas were crowded that week. Not sure why though.

I have found that the Value level is noisier in general than any of the others. I am sure that higher occupancy does have something to do with that. Also the food court area in the morning has always struck me as very loud in the Values. The Moderates can be very quiet but you still have people being a little loud outside as they walk by your room sometimes but so far the absolute quietest resort I have stayed at was the Beach Club!! We like staying at the POP and it isn't too bad. I have to have a fan running at night to sleep. But when we are WDW, since I can't drag my box fan with me ( ) I don't have it while we are there. But after walking around the parks all day or swimming, I'm usually too tired to hear anything or care about anything:lookaroun . The only time we had a problem is when our neighbors decided to have a very loud screaming match, with a little door slamming mixed in. It was about 3 AM. I was giving them about 10 mins. to get it out of their systems and then I was calling the front desk, but they quit and all was silent again. Someone else probably called first. But that can happen at any resort.

We started staying at the All Stars because of the cost savings, but began to get a little tired of them for various reasons. On our last 3 or 4 trips we stayed at Pop Century and got the same great AP rate. It is still in the Value category, but seems a little quieter and more grown up. The pool has nicer bar and there is a nice bar in the food court area with seating that is a little nicer than at the All Stars. Also, Pop Century is more centrally located and does not share buses like the All Stars. We have been very happy with Pop Century.

With that said, we just booked the Dolphin for our next trip in October. I got a great rate with the Nurse/Teacher/Gov't Employee rate and we really wanted to be able to walk to/from Epcot for the Food and Wine Festival. However, if a really good AP rate comes out for Pop Century, we will probably end up canceling at the Dolphin and going with Pop Century.

We find POR to be relatively quiet. Our noisiest stays have been at WL. As much as we love staying there, the enclosed hallways trapped the noises of kids whose parents let them run rampant up and down the hall all night. Like someone said on an earlier post, we usually were so tired that by the time we fell asleep we would not notice too much. I find Disney beds to be very comfortable, too.

Really, I didn't know there were specials like that. My wife is a teacher (4th/5th grade) and so it's always impossible to take advantage of deals like the "free dining plan" I was just talking to a CM online at disney's site and she said most of the "deals" they come up with are to help with the non-busy time of they year...kind of a boost end of year sales.

So most of the time we go during the busy/high-peak season. So what's this deal the Dolphin is offering?

Last time I checked it was 50% off the rack rate!!! It was substantial. We also have a deal for members of this board as well. Check on the front page for details for that one. Belle

Second that. A longer stay is worth it. Buy ear plugs if you're really concerned.

In my experience at AllStar Music and Movies, noise was not a problem. I've stayed facing toward and away from common areas: no problem with nightly noise.

Belle - do you have anything good for November 17th thru 22nd?

**********

Value resorts are okay if you stay away from the main building. I'm so tired at the end of the day, I pass out til the next morning. I can only remember two incidents (1) cheerleaders on the lawn after midnight practicing - they were told by mgmt to cease (2) rowdy people at CBR on our last trip - they had had too much to drink and were really loud and obnoxious - it was our last night so it really wasn't too bad.

And I don't think you see too much riff-raff at value resorts. They can't afford it................
