We like RoTR but rarely ride it because (to us) it’s not worth the long queue, it always has a long queue though so others must find it worth the wait.

It’s a great example of the saying “no one goes because it’s too crowded”.

At 30 minutes it’s a must do, it’s not worth 60 though. It wouldn’t make my top 10 list but it would be in the top 15.
I completely agree that Rise is a top 15 but not 10 at the resort - which is a pretty strong indictment of a ride that needed to be a grand slam for many reasons. It should have rivalled Mystic or shanghai Pirates or Beijing Jurassic and its just not in that league.

Rise is much better than Mystic or Beijing Jurassic. And I was harsh on Rise when it opened (you can see my posts here in 2019!)

I think Rise outclasses Shanghai Pirates too. At least with Rise you’re surrounded by practical props & sets. The parts of Pirates that are supposed to be impressive are all just large screens. It underwhelmed me a bit (but that ride system definitely could be used for something awesome somewhere else).

I think that’s fair. I think the screens did a good job with scale and the integration of the physical ships, but I can see why it would be underwhelming. I just love the ride system so much.

Imo Shanghai Pirates is better than Mystic, which is about equal to Jurassic Adventure. But all three are a bit away from my upper echelon of “thrilling” dark rides — Rise, Spider-Man, and IJA.

That's how I feel about Shanghai Pirates. I don't think it's that great -- it's a good ride, but it could be much better. I don't think it's as good as classic POTC.

Can someone explain the hype behind the Shanghai Pirates system? Is it something you have to see in person to really be amazed by? I've seen some on-ride video but nothing that really blew me away.

Nah, it’s nothing particularly shocking, it’s more the little things.

For lack of a better word, it feels very Fluid. It always feels like a boat and can do anything a boat can, but you have none of the bumping or other small issues. Complete with the spin capability, it’s a perfect boat ride system.

Some people think it's the best ride Disney has ever built (I'm not sure it would even crack a top 20 for me personally), so I think that's a big part of it.

But I think there's a lot of potential to do really interesting stuff with the ride system if they'd focus more on physical set pieces and AAs and less on having movies play in front of/around you.

well I’ve only seen it on YouTube but I think the screens look very realistic and I LOVE the scene where you go between the two ships like in the old concept art not to mention I really like the movies too.

RCL had strong earnings today. They are now spending 5B a year on capital expenditures.

I'm quadrupling down on my hypothesis that the DCL pipeline spend would take something dramatic to change at this juncture. We're probably going to see even more ships next decade beyond the ones currently on the books. Maybe even another 2 ship order for 2032/33 of the new 100k GT ship class.

True and it’s going to be worse with Big Thunder closed and Tiana mostly down and having no standby.
Tiana was pretty low demand this past week. It was just too cold for anybody to feel like getting wet, especially in the morning or PM.

We went on it in the afternoon on of one of the best days and got a bit wet. It was okay that day, but we didn't even bother with the VQ the other days because we had no interest in being any colder than we already were.

Worse, I actually got pretty wet on Frozen when water sloshed over the side of the boat. It was not fun to have wet jeans that day, but at least it was about 11am so the afternoon temps were a little warmer. (still windy though)

On my very last ride on Splash, I didn't get wet, but my companions did, and that was on a cold night. We quickly bought some dry socks and a hoodie (we were already considering the hoodie before riding). Even still, we only lasted about hour mostly because of wet+cold. Keep in mind, if you get wet on Tiana's, you still have to walk to the front of the park, then most people also have to wait at the bus stop or go through the TTC all the way to the parking lot. Best case, that's a while to have to endure being cold+wet.

WDW should add some of those big people dryers!
