Correct. DeSantis passed a law that forbid local governments from enacting their own covid mandates that are stricter than the state's
That's true but for example some companies are making sure unvaccinated guests ( ie Carnival , Royal Caribbean ) are paying more for their planned vacations. - must purchase travel insurance and pay $150 cruise fees to get covid test prior to boarding.

Are those cruise companies able to ask for proof of vaccination? Or is it on the honor system for people to say they are unvaccinated?

Yes I have read they ask for proof. If the unvaccinated showing no proof that they are passenger does not buy mandatory travel insurance and or submit and pay for cruise covid test they will not be allowed on board to start their cruise and no refund will be given, Good!

This is what Royal Caribbean is doing:
"Vaccinated passengers

Royal Caribbean passengers who are vaccinated do not face any additional testing requirements.

Unvaccinated passengers

However, the company says if a passenger cannot provide documentation, then they will be considered unvaccinated and must undergo additional COVID-19 testing at their own expense and follow additional health protocols."

Of note: There is no mention of "Vaccine Passports" a term carefully avoided.

And there are restrictions to where they can eat, what show times they can see, etc..

Norwegian Cruise lines is currently suing the state of Florida as they want to make it mandatory that ALL passengers are vaccinated if they sail.

They request to volunteer it. 3 choices on the survey I had recently.
1. I am Vaccinated and have no problem showing proof.
2. I am Unvaccinated (I.e. Kids under 12 have to pick this)
3. I prefer not to answer

2 + 3 go with unvax rules. (Although kids under 12 do NOT have to get extra insurance nor pay for the test, but they still get tested)

The CDC Rules are a bit weird with Mixed brand vaccinations (AZ + Pfizer, Pfizer + Moderna, etc), which is causing bit of a stir though (Mostly for Canadians and others outside the country that did because that's what the government provided to them).

If you are curious, you can see the exact form here: https://www.royalcaribbean.com/resources/vaccination-form?

I would get to the port a few hours early if I was cruising to deal with the bottleneck of passenger traffic at the terminal.

More than 99% of recent deaths were among the unvaccinated, infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said earlier this month on NBC's Meet the Press, while Walensky noted on Friday that unvaccinated people accounted for over 97% of hospitalizations.

For those who don’t want to read the article here is the numbers from Fauci and the CDC

That’s an oversimplified understanding.

-that can still be thousands of vaccinated serious cases, hospitalizations and deaths
-the more widespread the disease remains, the more chance for variation and vaccine evasion
-by failing to vaccinate enough, fast enough — we have opened the door for Covid to stick around permanently. Likely in less serious form for those vaccinated, but without regular boosters, we will be stuck with even high numbers of vaccinated people getting sick for years to come, even if fatality rate is reduced.

Why are young adults and minorities refusing to get vaccinated? Minorities have experienced higher death rates and people in their 30's and younger are supposed to be better educated. WHY?
If you are not a marginalized person, I wouldn't expect you to easily understand the medical hesitancy as a whole. If you are not used to getting subpar treatment because of a name or skin tone, it's hard to explain. Couple that with socioeconomic issues like the inability to afford to take time off or arrange childcare, and you have a recipe for disaster. If you don't understand, just consider yourself lucky. The disproportionate death rates go hand in hand with subpar healthcare and socioeconomic reasons that cause a disproportionate number of marginalized who are high risk.

Huh? I’ve been vacinated?

Doesn’t mean I don’t understand why some people are hesitant and have questions.
I said this to a dear friend who tried to go into infertility BS with me. Just because you are vaccinated doesn't mean you are not helping to spread anti-vax rhetoric. You miss this part. Passing off coincidence as causation is exactly what the anti-vaxxers do. They are that good at spreading misinformation that vaxxed people are spreading it too - seemingly out of care but not realizing the damage they do.

Mayor Demings confirms he will most likely not be able to mandate an indoor mask policy due to the new Florida law. He reiterates, and asks business as well, to voluntarily wear masks indoors.

The current 14-day rolling positivity rate for Orange County is 11.02% via Mayor Demings.

Here is the vaccine status for OC -

To clarify what he *actually* meant:

"May the odds be ever in your favor."

Ugh, this is going to be scary parts of my life for years..I don't want to die! We need our boosters to stop the future variants soon!

Here is the explanation from the OC attorney on why Mayor Demings says his hands are tied on issuing a mask mandate -

So the African American in the video, saying the vaccine problem is split among party lines, is either confused over who his demographic voted for or enjoys pointing the finger more than looking in the mirror.

They are testing the need for boosters. We'll know if we need them. My guess is maybe 60+ and immunocompromised might. Younger and low health risks maybe not given data we are seeing. But the trial I am in will find out :)

Don't assume all marginalized are democratic. I can say with certainty that's not true. It can be a mix of a lot.
