The US is vaccinating at a pace of 967 doses a day per 100,000 people.
The UK is vaccinating at a pace of 641 doses a day per 100,000 people.

Because we are doing both shot 1 and shot 2 and the UK has delayed shot 2 we are about the same number of new people a day getting shot 1. We are doing roughly 2 to 1 shot one vs two so about 635 of those 967 shots a day are shot 1s. I’m not seeing any signs currently of falling behind. Despite the JnJ pause we still haven’t seen doses per day decline. They are up slightly and deliveries continue to increase. Pace will decline as we get closer to the end but that’s true for both nations.

Yet --- Cases have fallen MUCH more significantly in the UK. And UK is hitting vaccination rates of 95%+ among eligible groups.

Yes, the pace will decline in the UK -- as they hit 95%. For us, the decline in pace is happening at a much lower vaccination rate.

So again -- why are cases falling so much more in the UK and then US?
Because they are achieving higher vaccination rates and because they are simultaneously mitigating.

Oh definitely, the entire idea of a minimum wage employee being the one to enforce the restriction when Jim shows up saying he "forgot" the passport is horrendous.

In those areas, it probably wouldn't be existing grocery stores, but new ones. Remember, this is the dystopian future where spread never get's low enough and there's impacts well above flu level every year. In this world, new boutique grocery stores will emerge that require them from the start. Probably club memberships to go with them. I hope we never have to see this world. I'm worried we're not going to have a choice.
I fear you are correct.

Thanks for looking up those numbers, I was about to.

In my state, for April we've been doing ~25% more 2nd shots than 1st shot though the country as a whole might be different.

Just wait another a few more months as if July means back to normal can be not far enough. I can't wait to not wear masks in public places except WDW soon!

Someone else may have mentioned this, but the UK is also in the middle of a 4 week lockdown. Unlike the US, they actually lockdown and most everyone follows the restrictions.

While vaccinations have been strong in the US up to now, I fear it will be slowing down. To keep up a good pace, we had to keep lowering the age.
The UK is still focusing just on 50+...

Their adoptions rates:

% who have had at least 1 dose (using ONS denominators)
50+50-5455-5960-6465-6970-7475-7980+
94.8%88.2%94.4%97.4%94.0%97.0%100%*95.2%

So far in the US, are at 81% of seniors. At this point, almost every senior who wanted a vaccine got it... very few seniors are still getting their first dose on a daily basis.

So UK has 94.8% of 50+ with at least 1 dose. US, 81% of those over 65.
To get a sense of how the rate is stalling among seniors, first shot was at 79% 1 week ago. 75.2% 2 weeks ago..
So 4/5-4/12... a 4 point increase. 4/12-4/19, only a 2 point increase. And continuing to slow down. Maybe we will top out at about 85% of seniors vaccinated.

Now, it wouldn't be a problem if we hit 85% across ALL age groups. Israel, for example, is at 80% of all adults getting vaccinated. But with seniors most at risk, they are also the group most likely to get vaccinated. Younger age groups are likely to have lower vaccination rates.
Is the US is 10-15 points behind the UK among seniors, then I'd expect the US to remain 10-15 points behind the UK for other age groups moving forward.

Lesson being -- get vaccinated, tell everyone you know to get vaccinated.
UK has started on 45+ as of last Tuesday

Aren't there other things, like Fast Pass (when it was still being used) that also required a smart phone?

Are there still people where nobody in the party has a smartphone?

I get that an individual might not, but not a single smart phone in an entire party? I guess if that individual is at the park alone....
I was there a couple of times this winter and spring. At one point by myself at WL- and my phone stopped reading QR codes. I would have been mighty hungry and thirsty if they hadn't accepted my cash order.

With all the concern about variants, where is the concern about the refugees being allowed and then released into the country without being tested for Covid? Please note that this is not anti-immagration. Not about race, not politics or anything other than the protocols/orders of the CDC which are the guidelines we've been instructed to follow.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued an Order on January 12, 2021 requiring proof of a negative COVID-19 test or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 for all people arriving from foreign countries.

It seems there are two separate set of rules for citizens and non citizens. The virus does not discriminate, yet the rules (orders) do? If I travel outside of the country, I need to test negative and/or recover before I return. A person crossing the border illegally does not.

And it's been pointed out countless times in this thread that "super spreader" events of people gathering together are a big reason that this pandemic "rages" on. But the pictures of hundreds of detained refugees, many without masks or social distancing (literally laying on top of one another) being grouped together for days/weeks and then being released into the country without being tested for Covid doesn't seem to bother anybody.

Again, this isn't about politics or immigration. No need to report this post, (which I bet several of you already have) Just curious about the lack of concern here. Curious about how we prevent the virus from spreading on regards to this "super spreader " issue.

You will waiting a lot longer then that. I'm thinking fall for masks to go away.
Unless there could be more little faster if the people will learn to restrictions in US than a lot longer I expect I hope....just we don't know about that yet.
