For the timing of second shots you’re absolutely right. Reporting delays are also valid. There is still a lot that can be done, from cleaning up reporting delays and some type of ad/info campaign as to why getting vaccinated is safe and important.
We can’t retrofit factories to produce vaccine like it was a P51 or B17, but the DPA can be expanded in its use to procure components and clear up supply chain distribution channels. In the spirit of OWS that cleared the bureaucratic and monetary way for vaccine development, we need a more centralized response in how to get the shots into patients. States have done some things very well, and have learned on the fly. But we can do better if there were clearer communication from the top as to what was coming when. It seems weekly distribution shipments are still a bit haphazard.
Lastly, why FEMA hasn’t been dispatched in all 50 states and our territories (or at least where states of emergency are still declared which I assume is everywhere) to assist where they can is something I’d like to understand better.
I don’t believe our new president can do all of this on his own, nor do I believe he and his team will deserve sole credit when things shake out and improve. But I’m hopeful that some or all of these things will be done in some fashion, and that’s not a bad thing for us as a nation. If manufacturing of vaccines gets up to full bore, it will be good for the globe, as well, as production will far outstrip our population.
