If the virus gets worse and the USA has the best healthcare system in the world, where do the patients get housed and treated? It's generally not much room left in hospitals.

Any word on what the potential affect of Cornovirus on the other park operators? I got a summer job at one of the larger Cedar Fair parks, I hope it doesn't affect much.
I’m no infectious disease specialist...but I think it’s too early to tell how this will affect the summer season.

Also...regional travel would be largely unaffected if the threat dies down and things would resume as normal.

The stock market is a bigger threat to travel right now because of the perception of plague...not the actual severity of it

If we were to follow your incitements, we'd be doing mass graves next week. Take a chill pill and listen not to the news, but medical sources like Johns Hopkins.

Equally as big a threat is the financial stability of many within the industry. The big boys like Marriott, Royal Caribbean, Expedia etc will be able to weather the storm, but they are going to take a hit. And to sustain that hit they'll cut - be it staff, hours, marketing spend and the like.

Heck, the largest travel show in the world - ITB Berlin - was just cancelled this afternoon. Was supposed to start next week. Problem was, all of Asia and most of Europe weren't going to show up.

Bookings are down, cancellations are more than double. A lot of hotels are run by franchisers who license the brand and don't have an unlimited amount of capital to draw on. There are a lot of regional and smaller cruise lines, and a lot of brick and mortar travel agencies (not named Priceline, AMEX, AAA, Expedia) who may not make it, if this extends too long. Hopefully it wont get to that point.

Gov. DeSantis of FL stated out of the 700 people who arrived from China recently and are all in FL have been tested. Out of 700, 4 people are being closely monitored and isolated due to symptoms but as of today, there is no word on a positive test for the coronavirus.

This was a bit confusing to read so to excerpt from the video of the statement via WESH:

  • 15 People tested Negative
  • 4 people under investigation
  • There has been more than 700 people who have come back from China whom the state have been monitoring since it started and has gone past the 14 day window
  • Currently it's 152 individuals that they currently monitoring at home

Curious as to what the false positive and false negative rate is for the coronavirus test.
Last I heard that FL Governor DeSantis had to tell VP Pence that Florida had No kits to test for virus and other solution was send info to another state for testing and get back results in 48 hours. Hopefully Pence can make things happen quick and get testing kits to FL. I just think people in rural areas of FL might have issues since kits may be delivered to major cities only.

Most test kits have an inherent error in them --false positive and false negative which determines the reliability of the test. Have not read what it is for the various coronavirus test kits being used. If someone tests negative and itis a function of error in the kit and is really positive ---not good

CDC Chief just said americans are at low risk. said just like other flu’s 15-25% may need other treatment depending on prior health issues. but that is the course he sees it following... people don’t realize how many people die from flu every year. The number is scary every year. This is just something new to stress about.

Folks the media makes money off of doom and gloom. In my short time in the business before I quickly realized that it was garbage they used to say very clearly, "if it bleeds it leads". While media is supposed to inform the public that mission has been abandoned. Now the media are in a rush to be first by reporting false leads, rumors, and opinion as actual news.

Just think about the recent news when Kobe Bryant died. First it was reported that all of his daughters were killed along with him. That reporter was suspended. Then it was Just him and his daughter. Then it became 5 people. Then 9 people and on and on.
Instead of getting the facts the media rushes to report anything no matter how untrue it is just so they can be first. And by doing so they are giving out a ton of misinformation and doing a disservice to the public.

Coronavirus is less contagious than the flu. The symptoms are similar to the flu. You can catch it the same way.
But the flu actually kills more people every year and nobody freaks out about the chance of getting the flu.
Just wash your hands, rest and take care of yourself. And if you are susceptible to the flu virus or are in a high risk category (elderly, etc) then take extra precaution.

This is not a "Pandemic" no more than the Flu can be considered a Pandemic, but the media love drama so they are going to build this up and make it into something more than it is simply so they can keep eyes on the screen or keep people clicking their websites or sharing their Tweets. The media are a disgrace and should be held accountable for inciting a panic when they do things like this.

Just take it easy. And if you want to stay home from the parks do so..especially in two weeks because that's when my wife wants to go so fewer people in the parks would be a good thing during our trip.

The numbers that are scary and stressful is the free falling stock market.

yeah that is Extremely scary but when the world economy is in trouble it has an effect. The fact some countries are locking down production facilities is going to have an effect on markets. Shipping from China right now is down so much. So unless they have a ton ready to go when back to fully working we will see economic effect for 6-8 months.
